  • Every employer in New York State is required to provide employees with sexual harassment prevention training.
    The training must be interactive, meaning it requires some level of feedback by those being trained. You can download or print this training’s accompanying assessment form by visiting on.ny.gov/prevention.

    Additional resources are available on the State’s Combating Sexual Harassment in the Workplace website: www.ny.gov/programs/combating-sexual-harassment-workplace

    I've found that some employees, must be aware of co workers personal space as well. At my previous job we talked about giving an arm length space when talking to one another. This sounds common sense but many people do not understand personal space which can be quite innocent. On the other hand, you can experience targeting harassment ( making work environment impossible, or enjoyable to work in an unassuming way. ) harassment can often look like showing partiality toward employees.

    I applaud NY State for being a leader and an inspiration. If anyone has ever worked in a hostile and unsafe work environment one knows the culture is often ingrained. In the past business owners and upper management ran rampant over their staff because the employee lived in fear for being a whistle blower or feared retaliatory action.

    People are busy. At our work place, we must endure 4 other long & boring video "training coarse" to complete New York State's certification.
    I've been taking these classes year in and year out for YEARS. When they first started, they weren't that bad & a representative would come in & talk to us as a group.
    Ever since the training switched out to videos, they become increasingly BORING every year. However, the 2023 training is the most painfully dragged out video we have ever had to endured. What's with the long dragged out storybook of "incidents"? Just get to the point.
    Honestly, I let the video play while I do do other thing & believe me, I'm not the only one who does that.

    This seems silly, but actually there are not many trainnings. And even as a woman, detecting sexual harassment sometimes it hard, because in some situations there is such a "fine line" that we doubs ourselves. Great work, is a short trainning and could be easily mandatory in companies, we all need education on the topic

    • @bricknmotor
      @bricknmotor Před 8 měsíci +7

      Well if you can't detect it then it's not harassment.

    • @ravenbarsrepairs5594
      @ravenbarsrepairs5594 Před 6 měsíci +4

      If you aren't offended by it, it's not harassment.
      So far as porn, ect being in the workplace, I've seen women think it was hilarious to place a giant suction cup based d1ldo on top of one of the fans(which stayed their for weeks)..... I work in the trash industry, so not sure how people would dispose of porn and adult toys without them entering my workplace. It's also a primarily male work environment, and women entering those type industries are pretty accustom to the off color jokes and such, and also, if someone crosses the line would be the first to put a man in his place.
      I do find the female iron worker example in the video to be lacking in significant details, as sending a 100lb woman out to wrangle thousands of lbs of steel by herself isn't a good idea. They also fail to mention is prehaps she's the being tasked with training the new guys, or even humbling guys that think they're better than everyone else. Nothing like a middle aged woman outworking a guy to humble him.
      I recall when we got a new(female) manager at work. The maintenance manager had forever had a crush on her(sh left the company for 10yrs, then came back for this job). Maintanence had long ignored our repair needs, and we were putting in repair requests for all kinds of things. If she asked, the shop jumped..... At one point, we had a hydraulic motor blow, and the shop told her we usually changed that ourselves(actually no, we could change it ourselves, but only if the shop couldn't get to it for a few days, as we prefer not to open up the hydraulic system, as we're just laborers and operators.) She went to her boss crying, and he came over and chewed us out for being "sexist pigs." The only sexist part about it was that we were utilizing the maint. managers crush on her to get things we'd long needed done, done.

    Very disappointed in this training. It had good points. The information was good. But I believe all the storylines were men as the offender not always the case. We did this as a group training. Because of my involvement with various groups this was my third training of the year and it was the least engaging. The other trainings had actors for the scenarios which kept your attention better. There was more discussion because of how the others were presented. It did have a wider scope this time but for a State training I expected more.

Is it even possible? Also, is religion simply a creed? Nobody should ever harass anyone for being a Christian or for being a white heterosexual male - is that correct? There is no guidance in this presentation about these important circumstances. This government product couldn't possibly be biased, could it? Do we have first amendment rights in NYS? Does the US Constitution apply in NYS? Have I just harassed the NYS DOL government employees if they read this comment in their workplace? IDK.

Where is the part where the transgender or gay or female employee touches me inappropriately or says inappropriate things to me? I appreciate protecting people. But by not including situations where a cisgendered male is harassed suggests that you're only protecting the "Weaker" groups. Which in this video you said is wrong. If we all supposed to be treated the same and act like humans then why is the white cisgender male made out to be the problem?
