Perhaps in order to control the vast forces that the Tyranids are bringing into the galaxy the hive mind needs an upgrade. This could be the heart of their command and control that will better co-ordinate the actions of the tendrils.

I suspect the Tyranids are starting to settle into the galaxy as long term residents instead of simply grazing. The Hive Mind is building forms that will enable the long term harvesting of warp energy and other occupational necessities to build new fleets to expand into other galaxies

I wonder if it isn't something to counter one of their weaknesses in space. They're slow, as they aren't Warp capable. The idea of this thing being able to drag the hive fleets through the Warp is horrifying. SOMEWHAT less awful is if this thing exists to support space combat, which is where the hive fleets are their most vulnerable.

@@LetholdusKaspyr Unless it can do many things at once. Much like the zoanthropes and maleceptors psychic powers can be used effectively against both imperial armors and deamons, I can't see why this thing can't zap ships out of the warp. There are cases of Orks using weird boyz to force imperial ships translate into real space. I don't see why the Tyranids can't do the same at a larger scale especially when they have already done that.

@@minhducnguyen9276 I think this is definitely an interesting idea, but I think/hope we would be getting reports of this vessel in the Kronos fleet if that were the case. That would honestly be way more interesting to me as well - sometimes I get a little tired of Leviathan being the central focus seemingly to the exclusion of all of others. I use to rationalize this as GW leaving other fleets open for players to create their own story, but after so long it starts to feel like they are just nervous about giving the Tyranids more "screen time" since it is difficult to write novels from their perspective. Jormungandr and Tiamat deserve way more focus than they have gotten in the last decade!

I have a feeling it could either be as you said a planet harvester or a giant bioforge, being able to build new hive ships within the galaxy. I have a feeling, the Imperium won’t have a choice, but to find common cause with the Necrons, and to awaken more tomb worlds. The Necrons realistically, are the only beings that have the capability to deal with the Tyranids. Chaos will also eventually have no choice but to focus their attention on the Tyranids, especially if they start closing warp rifts across the galaxy. Eventually, the races of the galaxy will have to focus all their might against the Tyranids, otherwise they are all doomed.

  • @Dontreallycare5
    @Dontreallycare5 Před 7 měsíci

I really don't want it to be a "planet eater" honestly. In the same sort of way that a true Dyson Sphere is actually less materially efficient than a Dyson swarm, it would be really dumb to have a planet sized bioship dedicated to just swallowing planets whole. Completely off the wall theory that is more of a desperate wish than anything else: It's a bio-equivalent to a tesseract vault, but instead of just restraining and leeching from a Ctan, the Tyranids are trying to figure out a way to wholly digest and incorporate a Ctan into the swarm. I really want to see more xenos on xenos interactions - and I think it would give fantastic narrative opportunities to see potentially new dynasties suddenly emerging to prominence on a new front not because of the Silent King mobilizing them - but rather because they are terrified at the idea of a Ctan re-emerging as something worse than they were even during the War in Heven.
I painfully crave something more unique than the big bad eaty thing became more big more bad and more eaty. And I say this as someone who's favorite faction is the Tyranids! Simply making this a planet killing biovessel would just be too much ork flavoring.

indeed makes no sense to be a food storage, nor a beacon... but I don't think is a doomsday weapon either ... the Tyranids don't need such a weapon since you do not want to destroy what you plan to use as feeding ground, also speeding up the feeding would not work either since, well a big ship will itself become a target for "Exterminatus" weapons... No. I think we just witnessed leviathan's master, the controlling unit for the entire leviathan hive fleet and the hub connecting all its tendrils to the overall hive-mind...

Thinking about it logically the food storage is the better option... sure the vast majority of the tyranids would be asleep during the intergalactic voyage but some are still going to have to be awake to plot the travels... to note any lone stars in the void that could be worth harvesting... to make sure the vast majority of the fleet doesnt stray from the path from any kind of hazard that may change their trajectory etc... those that are still awake are going to need a shit tonne of food because that trip is going to take them millions of years... also while they are in suspended animation that doesnt mean they dont need a limited amount of sustinence to maintain viablity to be woken at the end of the voyage... and finally when they tyranids got to where they were going they wouldnt know if it would be hostile straight away so they would want a food reserve to kick off the invasion and produce enough troops to gain a foothold...

The Zerg and Tyranids are basically the same thing. If they follow the way zerg works it could be a hive mind "expansion node." Assuming they put more thought into it than that, it could be a ship birthing facility. Big ships need big wombs after all. If it is a giant bioforge then they could bring in trillions from one that size. It would park in orbit serve as a defense station while launching billions of bioforms on the planet for as long as it takes.

I don’t think it is a planet killer
Your idea is close but it may be missing a very vital mark.
    Tyranids are weak when feeding.
    Yes.
And this is a solution to that weakness… more specifically that weakness in a very specific circumstance.
When they make it to Terra, do you think that will be a average feeding point?
No. It has beyond billions of people, beyond dozens of levels of surfaces, and still the entire imperium there on call.
When it gets there this ship will be vital to strip Terra of life.
It is a planet killer, a very costly one… but ‘A’ in ‘a planet killer’ only applies to 1 planet in mind of it’s creation.

Maybe it births new bio ships? We haven't seen how they're actually made?

So far it looks like all nid ships can give birth in response to near by ships being destroyed. The hive mind orders it to spawn a new ship. However it takes time for the new ship to be combat ready and takes the original out of commission for a time . But it is possible that this new thing does make ships but more quick and no loss of combat strength

Tyranids can make ships on site as long as they have the materials. I don't see why would they need something bigger to build ships. Unless they want a dedicated shipyard to build faster.
