The boy is not gifted academically, he is artistic and mainstream schooling is not for him. Some times I wish the show had professionals to give their opinions, for instance, educational psychologist would be able to pick up that the boy's poor grades are not because he does not effort but because he has challenges and refer him to a special school that would nurture his talent.

I don't know about other countries but in mine everyone has to finish high school before getting into a school of their specialty. Saying studies do not matter if you have talent is completely wrong. What's he gonna do with all that talent if he doesn't know how to use it? The drawings he made are not decorative art, they're architectural designs. He clearly said he's interested in building designs. If he doesn't get a degree in architecture or even art then he'll just be wasting his talent. Studies are there for a reason, saying they don't matter because you don't wanna study isn't right.

for the people in the replies, I never cussed my parents but I'm pretty sure she didn't mean than she greeted her parents cussing. But indeed, in America, it is more common to see people talk with their parents informally bc people are less conservative. In a lot of families, if they are really really close and don't have a problem with "bad words", they cuss at each other and it's fine (a great example are Italian families, that are known for cussing a lot)
