I did this a lot 40-45 years ago. I lived in west Tennessee and when the Mississippi river would flood, it filled the fields and crossed some roads. A friend and I would walk the ditches and wade knee deep water, in the fields. Nothing will make your heart race, like sticking a 30 pound bighead carp and having it slam into your legs, trying to escape.

Hunting Carp is a ball! I haven't done that for years, have to get the bow out.
I think googan needs to do more of bowfishing. Maybe even make their own line?? That would be badass!
Googan isn’t big enough to get into archery. Building bows, arrows, and accessories is incredibly difficult and expensive. The engineering alone is beyond their budget, let alone production (based on their 2022 filings).
Googan makes bait and rebrands reels and rods (so do most companies aside from the major makers), those are pretty cheap endeavours. Googan needs to not get in over their heads. Theres just no way they can compete with companies like PSE/Hoyt/HHA/QAD/Hoggfather anywhere in the archery space.
I love bowfishing from the bank!! If you ever find yourself driving through Oklahoma I would be all about running down the the river with you to shoot some fish!

If you have a pressure cooker, these fish actually aren't bad to eat. The obstacle is the bones, but pressure cooking makes them chewable by leaching the collagen into the meat, like a canned sardine. I kid you not, carp burgers are one of my all-time favorite ways to eat fish.

Bowfish from the kayak! You want some fun, there you go! It's quite the time.
Quick free upgrade for that set up! Unscrew the stopper by the knock and take it off. Untie the collar and take that off. Take your string and tie a loop on the end. Feed the loop through the screw hole then bring it up over the knock and arrow. Pull tight on itself. You now took away most of your drag when shooting the arrow from the collar sliding and drag in the water!

yeah this time of year they are spawning, thats why they are up on the shore and so shallow. some of the best bowfishing is during spawn!

When I bow fish in the swamp water for carp, I stand still in my chest waders and watch for a carp with the widest eye span, then aim for a headshot. Reason number one- wide apart eyes makes for a huge carp, headshot is good because if it gets off, wait a few minutes it will float to the top and you can retrieve it, most of a carps blood is in its head.

You should bring a small sharpener to resharpen your tip every now and then. Shooting into the ground messes up your tip more than you think. I think that’s why you had a lot come off.
I’ve always wanted to try this. Another fun sporting way to catch carp is on a fly rod. If you ever wanna give it a shot I’d love to pass on some tips for that.
What do you use on the fly rod
I have a pond near along the bike path that the carp were spawning in one year. Anyways I went in the pond and grabbed a couple by hand. Very hard to catch a twenty pound slimeball. It would keep slipping out of my hands.
i know its roughly 11 hrs from you but I'm working up near the Tennessee river. and the gar have been loaded up at pickwick dam. been having fun catching em while waiting on the stripers. biggest so far about 4.5ftish and like a ballsy idoit im doing it with 16 and 20 fluorocarbon 1/2 oz trap
Spray that garage door spring with some spray lube or rub it with a little bit of motor oil and a rubber glove. Get them coils lubed up so it will quit all that dry rubbing.

Would a small/medium crossbow be better suited for this, considering the brush you're shooting through?
Fishing with rod and reel for them can be great fun also. Bread, corn and nightcrawlers are best baits on light spinning gear up to 12lb. You can freeline, paternoster or under a float are all good rigs.

What brand bow holder do you have on your bike? I own a Himiway Cruiser and want to be able to haul my bow or long gun on the handle bars, without having to take my cart.

The best is putting on some waders and getting in the water. You need a better fishing arrow. That one sucks

Okay definitely buy several extra bowfishin tip's and arrows and do this again there was some huge carp you were hitting. Bet money all the one's you put a hole in are dead now floating close to the bank somewhere, maybe even drawing in some wild hogs. Imagine killing a bunch and throwing them up on the bank and waiting to see what comes in front of the trail camera!
the reason you don't have grass in your lake has nothing to do with the carp and Buffalo population in your lake, its the fact that it is a reservoir with fluctuating water levels....
I‘m totally aware that carp is an invasive species at your place, so I‘m fine with taking them out of the game - but what‘s the point of spearing tiny gars? Thumbs up anyway. Btw: These carps show a completely different behavior than they do in Europe - fishing round the year, you will maybe not even see 10 or so that close to shore and surface!
