    I spent almost 2 weeks of my free time working on this video and putting it together, yet, someone just messaged me with this: "So you are just bashing the car" 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
    Even in the video, I said that all my videos are about user experience with things, and this video is about showing people the issues to look at if they consider buying, because these cars depreciate a lot and someone might be spending the last buck on it without realizing that there are "Easter Eggs" that come with it! This is not TopGear to tell you how great cars are, my content is not paid and I give honest review of my personal experience, and as owner of this car for 4 years, I had a lot of experience, too much more than I wanted 😀
    So if you are owner of one of these and feel like I'm bashing it and it upsets you because you are driving it too, just relax and keep in mind that at least I am not drawing rainbow picture for you like the Hyundai Genesis before you buy it🤓

    @elyrccaledon6600 Před 3 lety +12

    I appreciate your honest review of Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80. I too, owned a 2015 Genesis (purchased in late 2014), and I drove it for five years. As the car approached the end of the warranty period, there were some problems. When placing the car in Park, there was sometimes a jerk in the transmission--never duplicated or resolved at the dealership. The rear window shade kept getting stuck. The front end developed a shimmy, that new tires and a front end alignment failed to resolve. When they aligned the front end, they left the steering wheel offset by about 2", which annoyed me and I took it back and made them re-center the steering wheel. The windshield washer motor suddenly stopped working. I had many, many, problems with the dealership itself. For example, they were completely unable to rotate the tires WITHOUT scratching or scuffing the beautiful wheels! Once they scuffed a wheel so badly, I made them have the wheel sent off for refinishing. They would leave dirty/greasy hand prints in the interior. In the fifth year of ownership, the car was rear-ended and written off. I bought a 2019 Genesis G80 with the sport trim. There were problems right away with the copper-toned trim around the windows--they eventually buffed the copper treatment off, but they made a sloppy job of it, especially around the mirrors. Again, the rear window shade gets stuck occasionally. Upon starting the car, the navigation traffic system continually flashes a message that a "Subscription is Required," even though I have subscribed. Also, there is the same issue when placing the car in Park--sometimes there is a slight jerk with the rear wheels. Build quality on the 2019 vs. the 2015 models is noticeably poorer. Panels in the doors/dash do not line up, the cabin has squeaks and groans that the 2015 model did not have, especially in the dash and around the sunroof, the driver's window has a rushing wind noise due to incorrectly aligned trim. The dealership informed me the wind noise was "normal." I will NOT be purchasing another Hyundai or Genesis product because of the issues with the cars and the dealership. I don't believe maintenance staff at the dealership have received enough training. Although these cars are considered "bargains," because of the level of equipment vs. price, in the end, you get what you pay for.

    • @RomanDoes
      @RomanDoes  Před 3 lety +4

      I always say, a brand new car without proper service team support at dealership is a tin can with wheels regardless of its value. The scratches and oil finger prints are common for them, because they didn't do any training, they just claim they did, but at the end of the day, its the same guy fixing it who fixes elantra, so he has no clue of brand values, he just makes his minimum wage. I now switched to Jaguar and people were laughing in FB group saying if I complain so much about Genesis, then Jaguar will fall apart... guess what, 10k on the clock, not a single squeak!

    Wow, my '16 is at 68,000mi and I've not experienced any of the failures you have. I'm still on the original wipers with no squeaks/streaks. Seat, door handle light, mirrors, roof window all trouble free. No streaks on paint on roof. I do have to lube the sunroof track each year as it squeaks and binds. Doors perfectly aligned. Engine and drive train and electronics all trouble free. HOlds alignment. normal brake and tire wear, no oil consumption. Nothing coming loose at all. Extremely long lasting brakes. Original Michelins were cheap junk and wore out at 20K. I put a nice set of Yamahas on and they are still on.
    The failures I've had are leaking trunk (factory service bulletin issued and fixed) failed starter solenoid (factory recall 1 year later) . A piece of dirt got in the rear caliper and jammed the rear brake.
    I have had lots of damage done by dealer mechanics though. THey broke my driver seat control ($35 part) They overfilled oil twice by 1 quart. They didn't bolt oil access panel on, twice, causing wind to rip it off ($350 part ruined twice). 2 weeks in shop waiting for part both times. Didn't tighten oil filter, causing oil to blow everywhere, requiring another week in shop to clean oil mess. Plus damage to my driveway from massive oil leak (good thing I noticed before engine blew)
    I can't blame the car for the incompetency of the dealer and I would gladly buy another Genesis.

    • @RomanDoes
      @RomanDoes  Před měsícem

      That's what my video is implying a lot too - any car is garbage without proper service. Genesis has 0 service available to the owners. No mechanics, no parts, poor treatment all at the same time while being positioned as competition to other premium brands. All that special treatment ends once you sign the purchase agreement.

    Thanks Roman. I enjoyed your review and it was enough to put me off buying a used Genesis G80 which I was considering in the near future. Looks like I will be getting a Lexus E350 as my next car. I cannot say I have had your experience with the stealerships as I rarely deal with them. Like you, I driving luxury cars and change them every few years or so. Unlike you I never buy them new so I have different expectations. Previously I have owned a 2012 Genesis and two Azera's before that and have to say overall they were great cars without any major issues. I can identify with your experience with squeeks and rattles and a problem with quality finish shortcomings. Although I enjoyed all 3 cars I would say they were closer to a Camry or Accord then they were to a luxury car like a Mercedes or a Lexus. I have also owned a Lexus SC430, LS400 and now currently my LS430 which I don't know if I will ever be able to sell. I think it is quite likely the best lexus they ever made and I will have a hard time getting anything better made. I can say that I never had any problems or complaints with any of the 3 lexus' with the exception of regular maintenance items that come with every car.
    I think Genesis better get it's game on if it wants to compete with the luxury brands and a lot of it has to do with the dealership experience.

      I would not look at these below 2017 year of make since that's where they split them from Hyundai. This is my biased view, but it looks like Hyundai doesn't care about these cars, and Genesis treats them as something else. So you will always be in limbo when crap hits the fan. They are beautiful and well made cars, but its the service and ease of maintenance that makes final difference in my opinion.

    Wow you really got a dud. I have a 2015 and after buying mine my best friend bought a 2015 model too. I have 109k on mine and in the last few months, when it is hot my backup camera doesn’t work. Once it gets under 80 degrees it works fine. I think things like that are to be expected.
    As for your issues I’ve experienced none of those.
    The issue I do have is that my steering wheel sticks when I turn it. A year into owning it I’d say back in 2018, this issue started occurring and they told me they couldn’t replicate it.
    Did some research recently and I found out that the 2015 model does have some issues with the hydraulic steering system.
    Those are the only two issues I’ve experienced.
    Now my best friends Hyundai was a different story. Navigation went out and thankfully he purchased the extended warranty. They had to keep his car for three weeks. Replace all the wiring etc. would have been 8k I’m repairs.

      main issue with their "mechanics" if you can call them this way, is that all of them are underpaid and they fix elantras all day. So when they get Genesis in the shop, they are clueless as none of them are trained and none of them give a single flying F that you paid premium for that car. Plus very often they have no tools to work on it.
      This is why Genesis sucks the most, any proper car is valuable as long as they have service right, with these Hyundai Lexus wanna bes its impossible. At least in my area.

Also here in Canada it needs service once every 15,000 kms, while with Genesis I had to do it every 5,000kms. Only downside of the Jaguar is that some detail in the interior could be done better, like some buttons and covers feel cheap, and the seats are not as comfortable as in Genesis. Hi Roman, thanks for this vid and 'm so glad you are from Toronto. Is the Richmond Hill location same as the Markham one? The dealership was at Torbay dr and the service centre I think was near woodbine and Steeles. Anyway, I have a shitload of probz on my 2017 G80. Just brought it home from dealership yesterday and had issues the same day. Couldnt press down on the brake as it didnt let me push down while I was pushing on the push start button. Sometimes the fob key wouldnt let me lock/unlock. Yesterday night I was inside the car trying to lock and unlock to see if itll help with engine starting up but fob didnt work. Today, I was outside and fob wouldnt let me unlock but once I manually used the keys to get in, and tried to start the engine, engine wouldnt start but after a few times of me opening the car door and shutting it and clicking lock and unlock on the fob, engine starts up after turning the car on. This is so strange- why does it happen like this? And this has been happening way too frequently hust within 2 days of bringing the car home. I'm scared of being stranded and ruining the brake pad/engine if this occurs frequently. Also, I am getting a msg on the screen that reads "battery discharge warning, please use when the engine is running" why is this msg on the screen? Should I be doing something differently? I spoke to the manager of the genesis service centre at markham location and he was super nice. He said I'm still pushing the brake too softly like how I would on my previous lexus and that i needed to press harder so sensor from the back of the brake can pick up to turn on the engine. But i dont understand why the fob wouldnt work sometimes and not other. Lights work on the fob when i click so it's not like fob is loosing battery, right? Idk, do you think I should return the car or keep driving for a few more days/weeks to see if things improve?

      I tried Mississauga location, Toronto, Gyro, and Richmond Hill.
      At Mississauga, they were nice only in the first couple of month, but still didn't fix much. At Toronto they were rude, and couldn't care less. They kept my car for months in the store while making me drive Elantra, in total, my car spent around 8 months there. Then Gyro, they damaged paint on my doors as they are clueless how things work on the car use screwdriver to ply plastic parts. I chased them for over a year, car spent about 4 month in total at their workshop.
      Richmind hill was the final drop... they left car with open door for several days in the yard, battery drained, car got flooded due to heavy rains. They were clueless on how to jump start the car. Idiots scratched all the plastic covers under the hood with screw driver trying to open the plastic covers on battery connectors. I had to do it myself in front of them and show them how it's done. Basically, all these dealerships, are barely trained enough to change oil. Nothing else. I took a hit and sold the car immediately after that. The RH service manager was dumb enough to say that "things happen" and that "they apologize" for flooding my car. Nothing else.

      @RomanDoes  Před 2 lety

      Markham is a separate location I have not tried. But, I doubt they are any better. I spoke with them asking to take my car and switch me to something else, they offered $15k for my car due to issues it has. So I went to Jaguar, and got super deal on F-pace lease. Never looked back. 1.5 years later I went for the first service and I was super suspecious, but, the service level they provide, is awesome, and I almost felt bad for expecting the worst. Car had not a single hickup. So when time comes, consider Range Rover and Jaguar for a lease and never do finance on any Hyundai made cars. Lesson learned.
