- Welcome back to Le Mans Ultimate for what turns out to be an incredibly frustrating GTE race at Portimao. I’ve qualified well and I’m starting from fifth on the grid, just a couple of tenths behind the top three.
I got under way with real hopes of a podium battle… I’m still yet to finish in the top three in an LMU online multiplayer race. However, it soon became clear that I may have set my sights a little too high! Not much went right in this one…

This looked really tricky! Difficult on the brakes and in fairness it’s not an easy circuit to pass on. Good action though Chris!

Yeah it was so tough. Trying to attack to get the positions back, while also having to defend at the same time. I clearly struggle with multi-tasking!

Haha yeah, he must have been watching me in his mirror and saying “what’s this idiot trying now” 🤦🏻♂️ braking was so hard, anything above about 40% brake resulted in a lock-up.

A cracking race and some excellent race craft by Heinzle who unfortunately for you had you totally under control for the majority of the race. And once again top notch editing and commentary.
Yeah, he was class, wasn’t he. Knew exactly what was going on at all times, and spared my blushes on two occasions!
Ran this series today. Drove the RSR. Quali'd 13th, got up to 7th, spun on my own and finished 9th. Really good clean racing though!
How is the RSR? I’ve still not tried any of the other GTEs. Are they any easier on the brakes? Had big problems with the Ferrari, was locking up any time I hit 40% brake input.
@@chrisrogerssimracing Hard for me to compare since I'm boring and only drive Porsches lol. Feels stable on the brakes to me. I run @ 53% front bias. You're about 1 second a lap faster than I so maybe I'm not pushing hard enough?

The one thought I had was to stay behind into the last corner, do the switchback in the final corner and challenge on the start-finish straight, in the hopes you get to the corner already ahead. Not challenging into T1.

Yeah, after trying the T1 move at the start of the race, I quickly learned not to risk trying it again!

That one was hard to watch. Feels like you were trying too hard and tensed up too much. Some awful sends from people around you, but it's good to see how LMU is improving.
Big time. I was driving frustrated, and lost all my flow. I knew that I was being held up by about 1sec a lap, I saw the front five getting away with every lap and you’re exactly right… I tensed right up! Hands had to be prised free from the wheel at the end! The incident with the backmarker was the big blow… that was my opportunity to make a break and catch the front five, but I never got the chance. Still good fun though!
Sorry it didn't work out this time, Chris. But at least you didn't get killed this race. I wonder if the Porches just had a better time of this track than your Ferrari. Too bad about that back marker causing you to lose positions. Not sure what was going on there. He must have been too flustered/frustrated and didn't properly request repair going into the pits. The automated track-cut penalty was harsh. They both went way off, yet you get a penalty for a few inches... and wound up losing two spots. Oh well... without bad luck like this, you can't savor the good luck when you get it! Looking forward to the next race.
Thanks Eric, yeah it was almost me doing the murdering this time! A couple of lunges I got very wrong… thankfully the guy in front was very aware and sensible, and knew I was making a mistake before I did 🤣

Not tried LMU how does it feel compared to ACC?
Cheers mate. It has its good points and bad points. General feel is excellent, better than ACC for general grip feel, kerbs and cornering. But I’m finding heavy braking and lock-ups a big problem. I can’t feel any difference when I lock up… the only way I can tell I’m locking up is by seeing the smoke in the mirror! So for that, ACC is much better.

Yeah it was a great race. I seemed to get a lot wrong though! A couple of really bad mis-timed lunges… forgot how easy it is to lock up the brakes. Then when I did manage to make a pass, I was undone by bad luck!
It really was all elbows out, that one, wasn't it? You need bigger elbows. 😉
Something I've noticed is how much more realistic the weight of the cars seem to be compared to ACC. In ACC, half of those contacts would have resulted in someone spearing off into the shadow realm.
Haha yeah, I think I’m too gentle for all this rough stuff 🤣 you’re absolutely right about the weight though… the door-banging in particular feels far more realistic. I’m not so fond of the feel when there’s a lock-up though… I can’t feel the track at all, it just feels like I’m gliding. If it wasn’t for the smoke in the rear view mirror, I wouldn’t even know I was skidding.

Hey Cris, too bad you lost so much places. Maybe leave more space on the entry into a corner so you can use more exit speed out of the corner and pass the car in front. If you stay on his bumper on corner entry then you are just as fast as he is on corner exit. Just my 2 cents...
Thank you mate, yeah I did a lot of this wrong in this race, and that was definitely one of them. Should have been a bit more cautious into corners, so I could be faster (and stay closer) on exit. One to learn from!
Was this a rookie race or the weekly?
The rookie races are full of drivers with zero safety rating.
Silver ranking races are much safer with drivers that care about race craft.
Gold just doesnt have much of a population so you will regularly be on your own.
Its like ppl think racing is just about doing hotlaps but they become completly undone by traffic.
Then comes the complaints over chat about how YOU caused it.
They really need to promote safety rating in LMU
Yeah, this was a rookies race. I still haven’t done enough races to get my safety rating up high enough for the Silver class races. I think I’m pretty close now, I reckon one or two more clean races will do it 🤞 It will be interesting to see what the standards are like up there.
It didn't take me too long to get to gold 3. Just didn't care much about winning.
Very interesting watching the carnage as I drove past though.

Well it's nice to see you've become a genuine, full blown sim racer, blaming everything other than your own bad decisions and lack of anticipation for just about every incident. 😂 This would make a terrific training video for young drivers, explaining what not to do in a race. When a car is rejoining without a rear wing, there will only ever be one outcome, you had so much time to make a safer decision but like so many do, you try to keep your foot down and lose as little time as possible, which in turn loses you more time and positions. You placed your car in some terrible positions, shooting yourself in the foot regularly. Sometimes (as it was shown in the video) just closely following the car ahead can induce them into errors, little bit of patience, even in sprint races, can be ones best option. When you have cars following closely, you can't afford to lift at any point other than where you are supposed to, so anticipate the car ahead, you've been there, what would you be doing? The black & blue Porsche was wreckless but he/she showed their hand early on, so use that knowledge. I could go on and on but when you were watching it back to add commentary I'm sure you noticed your errors. One deep breath from a great race.
Good lord, this was one HELL of a race! So intense, full of action moments. That Porsche sure gave you a run for your money! Glad I found your channel, you have a new subscriber here!
