      The F1 still has 200 kg less, more power, softer tyres, better DRS effect, both more mechanical and aerodynamic grip... And the 919, while unrestricted, is still based on a restricted chassis and engine, with endurance tyres that are harder compounds than F1 cars. I feel like those commenters whose main argument is "the Porsche is an unrestricted racecar" have actually no clue about the car at all. It was quite a restricted machine - restricted by Porsche itself. The engineers had a very tight time frame (only a single year) and nearly non-existent budget to CONVERT an LMP1 (which was about as restricted as an F1 car) into this.
    I recommend Driver61's video on the matter, he interviewed the project leader working on the EVO. After watching that, I'm sure all of you will agree that the 919 EVO was indeed NOT an unrestricted car at all.

    • @f1virtualfilms
      @f1virtualfilms  Před měsícem +1

      If I understand correctly, this leads us to believe that even more performance could be extracted from the car. Thanks for the comment my friend.

    • @Petidani0330
      @Petidani0330 Před měsícem

      @@f1virtualfilms WAY-WAY more performance, yes.
      TL;DR: Given just one or two more years of development and/or a budget closer to an F1 team's, it's safe to assume the 919 EVO could've put even the mighty W11 to shame, in terms of single lap performance at least.
      For example, they wanted to widen the tires, but the wheels wouldn't have been manufactured in time. They put skirts on the sides of the floor to make better use of the ground effect, thus increasing downforce. They wanted a sliding skirt, like that on the first ever ground effect F1 car, but they would've had to redesign the entire sidepod, and once again, they didn't have time nor budget. They also had to work with the original engine used in the LMP1 car. All they could do was to remove the fuel flow limiter and upgrade the hybrid system. Even with this, basically just tweaking an already existing engine, they managed to squeeze out over 1100 hp - imagine if they could design an entirely new engine!
      It's worth mentioning that the record-breaking lap at Spa took place about just half a year of development. That event was merely a test session!
      At the peak of LMP1, a WEC team spent around $150-200 million per year. Given how that was too much for even such a huge company as VW (I know, it was mostly because of dieselgate, but still), I reckon this little project had a budget of no more than $50 million. It's only a guess, of course, but for the sake of argument, let's say that indeed, they got the full $200 million for whatever reason. For comparison, F1 top teams at that time were spending around $400-450 million per year.
      So all in all, the 919 EVO was still very restricted, and generally in a different (lower) league than F1, so the fact that it still broke an F1 lap record, even just temporarily, was a real feast of engineering.

    • @f1virtualfilms
      @f1virtualfilms  Před měsícem +1

      @@Petidani0330 Wow. A real lesson on the 919. In short, they couldn't exceed the spending ceiling and there wasn't enough time for further development of the project. Once again, thank you very much for your comments and for following the channel.

    The 919 Evo has more power than the F1 car, more downforce than the F1 car, and less drag than the F1 car. The F1 car is lighter, which is probably why it took off from the line more quickly, and repeatedly outbraked the 919 Evo.

      @@nawin_playzDuring the nurbugring, Timo Bernhard himself himself said that in a nutshell the car was super intense to drive, wheelspin in 5th gear which was something he had to get used to during it. At Pflanzgarten, he was barely holding on and that was his limit of comprehension.
      Him and the Porsche team said they don't know what the perfect lap time would've been, but the results were satisfactory.
      Overall, he was the limiting factor for this beast (not downplaying him though, he absolutely smashed it). I could argue it's true top speed is at most 250mph (at max) based on its specs.

  • @VollstandigErleuchtung

    This is abit of a bias comparison, perfect track for the 919, and also use of a slower f1 car to what's available. The FH2020 does exist, it's also the f1 car most comparable to the 919, since it's the fastest modern f1 car. Besides the car choice, the track is best suited for the 919, having a lot of long straights, even spa would be a better option than a track like lemans. If the ai drove these cars than it's even less accurate, cause i know full well how ridiculously fast a good driver can be compared to the ai, this case would be the same for the 919 though, but it'll overall show their laptimes better. I'd rather also compare them separately, instead of them racing each other. The 919 will still likely always win at lemans, but it'll be cleaner. Throw these 2 cars down on the nordschleife with a actual decent sim driver, I'd like to see the difference then. Lastly the 919 is also an issue cause idk what mod is used, and how accurate that mod actually is, so the 919 could be a bit slower than it should be or faster, same as the F1 car, looking at RSS mods which the f1 cars are usually faster than it should be, but we know the f1 is likely faster, unlike the 919. We're not comparing to real life anyway so maybe im ranting about that for nothing

      I really appreciate his comment and know that it makes sense. Here on this channel the focus is not on a technical and accurate comparison of cars but on entertainment. Although I always try to maximize the car's tuning and use the best mods possible to obtain a result closer to reality.

    Dumbest comparison ever. If you want Porsche to win so bad race them in a straight line dont bother with Le mans. But if you want to see a real (as far as simulation goes) comparison go to an F1 track like Spa, Monaco etc. Porsche may win there too i dont care cuz i dont wear F1 glasses.
