- This video will give insight to common dirt late model left rear 4-link suspension. This basic tech tip guide gives basic knowledge on left rear tuning, things to look for and how to adjust, set up your left rear suspension. This 4-link tuning guide can be used on all chassis brands like Rocket, Warrior, Barry Wright, TNT, MastersBuilt and so on. Not only for dirt late models but can be used for open wheel modifieds as well. For detailed adjustment purchase click following link

Can you do a video showing what each rod will do and how much change it changes for example you need an extra inch on the right to loosen up the car move this bar, or to tighten up the car on exit move this bar one hole, for us new guys this 4 link stuff is new and where do we get the program you have on your computer to learn the angles and such.
Well that is getting pretty technical, and thats the stuff I break down in adjustment guide. Here are links to those guides.

Thanks for the share and tech tips !!!
Thanks for sharing, this simplified the rear suspension angles to make it more understandable 😃
Thanks bro for the knowledge
We’re just getting back in to dirt track racing. Thanks for the info.
Be sure to check out my Setup & Scaling guide, Track Day Adjustment Guide, and Guide to Doing Tire Work for additional information, thanks!
@@DirtTrackDave I sure will. We’re building brackets to go under the car now to convert it to 4 bar. We’re going to be videoing it. Just dropped a video last Thursday building the bracket.

super cool!!!
This was so far over my head, I was watching 4 link off road stuff, and this came up. Thank you for explaining this kind of setup, I'm sure your competitors appreciate setup hints and tricks. I try to stay in my lane( welding and fabricating the cheap 4x4 stuff) but its always cool to learn something new
Ryan thanks for watching! I try to break down the complexity of these cars as best I can for racers of dirt late models and those intrigued by it as well. There is a good bit going on in the rear end of these cars that works asymmetrical from left to right. This is where the turning capabilities while on throttle is able to be achieved with huge traction. Check out the rest of my tech videos you will find them intriguing as well.
This is the best stuff about "racing"....luv it!
Thank you, and thanks for watching.
Thanks man
Im putting a new latemodel together i retired the old rocket and went with a newer one just having a few issues with the new reared your video was great and helped alot now i understand
I have a tuning guide for sale message me for it. facebook.com/DirtLateModelTechTips/posts/1678573748976084
I would also like to see more info on lrf shock. Mine is single adj integra, but I don't understand when and what to adj it to
Very informative and Great video of the rear suspension Thankyou
Glad they helped, any questions feel free to ask.
More tire prep video plz
Thanks. Always had a fascination with these cars and now run them in iracing . I'm having bad forward drive problems. I'm usually .3 off in lap time from the leaders on short tracks. I'm competitive at eldora. I will try anything at this point.
3rd arm, pinion angle, rear spring rate. and stagger effect that 🏁

Hey Dave can you break down watts link /z link the same way ??
What CAD software is this? Looking for something cheap to use at home for myself
awesome video, I'm new to the dirt track racing and I had picked up a 3-bar modified and I'm having a hard time figuring out how the rear set up works. can u do a video like this for a 3-bar set up?
wicked toyz treat it similar to the 4 link in videos if on dirt. Use the Average angles of the of the 4 bars on each side for a starting point for 3 link. The 3ed link on rear end more angle more anti squat.
Would really enjoy seeing a video on explaining the function and adjustments for the 6th and 5th coil stuff to get a better understanding of how it affects the car. Also would like some more information on what to adjust for the racetrack not with just one corner but the car as a whole. We have fought a push with new car since we got it and finally figured out the push and getting through the corners but I know theres still lots of speed to be found
What kind of car and what class of motor?
Great video - I bet you'd get a lot of views if you shared on some Iracing forms
I don't get on any but feel free to share.
Can you expand upon the LR front shock?
Yes indeed.
What do you feel is the optimum rod length split providing your brackets are symmetrical
That's a very loaded question with numerous possible answers.
What is the easiest method to adjusting the LR bars on the frame side, especially since there is usually preload in the LR shock?
I'm going to do video about this issue.
Do you adjust both top and bottom at the same time or are you working one or the other in those canareals.
I normally only adjust RR upper and LR lower. In situations when the LR upper exceeded 45-47 degrees in droop I drop it to maintain 45* and lower. The RR lower I rarely change only reason I would make a RR lower bar change is track type. Like paperclip style track or momentum style tracks demand different lower angles.
I got a assembly mocked up to simulate this in fusion 360. I was wondering how you constrained everything and how you were able to get angle to be simulated in cage? Thanks
You have to make an assembly after parts are extruded.
@@DirtTrackDave I got the parts extruded I’m just not sure how to get it to show the motion of cage. There’s an error when try to get it to rotate the way it’s suppose to
@@caderichards7354 you can animate it or manually move it with mouse. Be sure all components can move and have tolerance. There are videos on YT breaking it down.
When you say left rear are you saying looking at the car from the front or sitting in the car with the left being your left arm ?
Yes, drivers left.
Ok so i know this is different but i can tell you have complete understanding. I have a custom 4link front and rear on a jeep gladiator. Numbers all green but truck feels like it rides mainly on drivers side frame rail.. Do you have any thoughts asnto why. Very high end system its not shit lol
Just depends on it's specific geometry. Without knowing more details it's hard to say.
What software are you using for simulations?
Onshape and Solidworks
@Robert Henry Shoot me an email you can find it on about tab on my channel page.
Dave what cad package are you using?
This was done using onshape
@@DirtTrackDave thank you I have been working this same project in Autodesk fusion 360. Family use to race years ago and I use to do the mechanic work on the cars. Now I just tinker with different projects in Fusion 360 to learn the software. Wish I would of had this stuff to use back then. again Thank You for the feed back.
Do you know of any rent a ride out there
Is there any one renting rides our sell laps I've never drove a bar car would love to try one
It is something we are looking into, there use to be but we are looking to do some things like that in future.
Also when you cam over it unloads the weight cause it starts to reverse it effect.
It's locked solid and no longer using load on spring as desired. Suspension goes solid fo a small bit.
Are those % win the car is racing or just sitting there
Static position, as like on scales with driver in car.
What do you mean when you say “cams”
The birdcage's rotation counter clock wise on left rear, viewing from Left side in.
Have you messed with rayburn swing arms
Yes but not many have them anymore and has become semi obsolete.
@@DirtTrackDave any advice on setup
@@terryblitchington645 yes but for customers who are on my program. As that is what I do, I provided information and work with teams on getting cars on pace to get as I call it in the hunt for wins and good finishes.
We are tight goin in and loose coming off how do I fix it

You never want a link or arm to rotate pass straight line center it creates a reverse affect.
Do most drivers understand and know all of this stuff? This all seems impossible to master
no, very few are 100% confidence in adjustments they make.
And you can see why they crash so often. get off the gas and they go all over the place.
4 bar sucks.. Z link is where its at!
Z link has its application and good. However with one bar one direction and the other opposite you are not using the forces from acceleration to help aid in anti squat and forward thrust.
Some of that info is wrong AND OUT DATED NOW.
What part or parts you FEEL is out dated? Because it's still winning races.
Hey Dave, anyway you could email me LR & RR on- onshape?
It should be available as its open source
