Yeah, Galan and Tapia are overall the best smashers, but Leo's smashing potential is ridiculous. His low percentage is mainly due to him smashing from ridiculous positions. But if I had to choose a player to smash all the way from the back glass, I would probably pick Leo.
Agree. If you did 100 random lobs all over the court, I think Augsburger would win
Leo is probably going to be one of the best left side players in a few years time, I still can't get over how even the best pairs didn't have an answer for him and Libaak in the last few tournaments of 2023, if they can just become more consistent, they can be a top pair for sure.
I’m also interested who is the best smashing couple (I already know). It’s difficult to compare personal stats in a team sport. Galan would smash less when he would play with Coello. And easy for Tello to have such a high rate of smashes next to Bella. It’s like unforced errors - most likely you will have more of them when they play 60% of all the balls towards one player or the other way around. If you see no ball, difficult to make an unforced error. Stats doesn’t say it all

I like javi leal the way he smashes and how much he’s body bends before he smash the ball is like a pure art. But galan is obvious an alien. Galan is ronaldinho of padel.
I think that Chingo can be viewed in the same light as Di Nenno as they only smash when it's highly likely to be a winner. It's a different case with players like Galan, Tapia, Stupa and other attacking, left sided players where the smallest opportunity is still an opportunity to smash but those opportunities do come with alot of risk and it does not always pay off but on their day can turn those small opportunities into winners and turn a match in their favour. My pick for the best would be Tapia but no doubt, in 2024, Galan is in better form.
Would be interesting to know how Coello’s numbers have changed since 23 and his hand injury. My got tells me that they are worse in 24 and he has lost some power. This is mostly seen on his jump smashes. He simply doesn’t hit them that often anymore
For sure, and even more since 2022. When he played with Bela he was smashing all over the court and his smash frankly looked like the biggest on tour. When hje partnered with Tapia he took a more modest role of supporting act and since then his smash has declined quite a bit.

Tapia and Galan has the best smashes and would give a slight edge to Tapia. But as a player Galan is better than Tapia. I feel Galan can play well with any player and Galan can make any player shine and play at their best. Galan is in my view the total complete package.
Stupa has in my view the worst smash of the top backhand players especially based on his recent tournaments and matches.
