- This Neewer Green Screen Review is one of the most bizarre videos I've ever made. I was hoping to do a fairly simple price-value comparison between the Elgato Green Screen and this new knockoff, little did I know this Neewer one was quite literally garbage. No, this is not a cheaper Elgato Green Screen alternative, and no, the Elgato Green Screen is not overpriced.

Tek Overclocked last week the elgato one was sold out. Also, I have some of their video lights and was pretty happy with them. Also, when the neewer screen first hit amazon is was 139$. So it just went up within the last few weeks to higher than the elgato.
Oh hell yeah you’re lucky I took the chance on it thinking people may have had bad luck nope the screen popped from the top and I immediately got stressed the good thing is I got a full refund sending this ish back

I honestly dont understand how Amazon can sell knock offs products that can be unsafe -imagine electronic products...
I’ve been using a pvc homemade setup that ran about $30 and works great but it takes like 10-15 minutes to setup. I had this and the Elgato in my Amazon cart for weeks. You just made my decision a lot easier. Thanks!
That really surprises me tbh. I've gotten many many Neewer products in the past and have never had issues with them, thanks for reviewing this so that I didn't go with it because I very likely would have gone with this if I did need to get a green screen.
The elgato being very stable makes it pretty easy to have a platform underneath it to make it taller too !

That's insane how bad that product is compared to the Elgato screen. The Elgato screen is literally the best time saving piece of filmmaking gear i have ever purchased, no fuss and takes lieterally seconds to set up where you need it. Neewer should be ashamed of this terrible knockoff. Just goes to show how Quality control is even more important today then ever before!
I’ve had the Elgato Green Screen for about 6 months. My only frustration was waiting for it. It was on backorder for a long time. I don’t use Green Screen often, but I hated setting up the posts, hanging the cloth, etc. Elegato Green Screen makes it easy for me to make a video using Green Screen with no hassle. Build quality seems decent. Neewer has some cool knockoffs at good prices. Too bad - this thing looks like a disaster.
You see, the problem with it rolling up is...it doesn't.

Thank you for uploading this video and making a review I was actually thinking about getting this brand on Amazon but I’m glad I didn’t make that mistake because I didn’t wanna do it and I’m happy I placed my order of my Elgato green screen yesterday night instead of a third-party knock off one.
I know on amazon, emart has a retractable green screen. Could you do a review on that one by chance :3 im thinking of getting one for my bday since its this month :D
as always you get what you paid for, but in this case gone horribly wrong.
The company I work for will be making these soon. We do custom trade show displays, and the one item is a roll up, which we can easily make green and will work perfectly for this type of thing.
I know few years too late for this video . But maybe you need to grease up the supports and see if screws need to be tighten metal can bend but if its not tighter it will flex and likely buckle
...it literally ripped off

Some time ago I was thinking about getting Neewer products. Didn't know what sort of market they represent, but boy am I glad I didn't touch anything assuming everything else is of same quality. And sure it's possible that not everything is this bad I guess, but still. Thank you for presenting sound warning. :-)

Do you have any recommendations for lights for a small bedroom? I'm currently using just regular lamps from around the house and they can fine for the most part ..until I accidentally breathe on them and something moves even slightly and then everything gets messed up.

I believe you, and I'm glad you got a good one, but quality control matters. When you spend this kind of money you don't want it to be a crap shoot whether you'll get a working product or a hot mess.
I got the El Gato the day it went on sale and have been more than pleased with it. It is raised and lowered approx 10-15 times a day and I've never encountered a problem.

Was looking at these on amazon, decided to do some research as the previous green screen wasn't even proportionate to the frame they sent to me. I think I'm going to just get a fold out one. These have a very bad case of falling apart and are clearly a rip off of el gato. I don't think I want something that is going to be useless after a couple shoots.
Any recommendations on fold out wrinkle free set ups for photoshoots?
Alternative to Elgato is so simple most people over look it. And they come in all difference sizes. Some roll up, some are more permanent but much much larger. Some hang from ceiling and some use tripod. They are PROJECTOR SCREENS. Just grab yourself paint roller, chroma key paint, and paint it.
A window blind color green is good and cheap
i used the green sheet of the bed well me wiff whent up the wall at me put it works so good not bad for £5 long as its green and dont tell wiff ur good to go

if they give you a hard time make sure you tell them you will also submit a Better Business Bureau report if this is not resolved in a quick fashion.
It came from Amazon, so the return took 10 seconds, lol. Just a pain to fit it in my car to take to UPS

Just bought my son a crap ebay green screen, probably made by same company, seller refunded and told me to keep as it done exactly that wouldn't roll up! Once refunded the screwdrivers came out, they just chuck them together without winding up the mechanism or it lets lose as they put it together and don't bother recoiling the spring...
Just so you know the newer green screen was out way before Elgato’s. I. Use to look at it and wanted to buy it. Then I saw a year later elgato came out with one that was cheaper.
Neewer had a fold up flat one, but not a self standing retractable - they even emailed me when it was released not long before this video o_O
I'm sticking with Elgato!

This thing is a CHEAP knockoff that is currently selling for MORE than the Elgato LOLZERS
Also Not being able to get it back up is an issue with lots of things..

Also hoping Elgato/Corsair to see this if possible, pls make a bigger version of the Elgato Green Screen, at least twice as wider, it would be a good solution for actual profesional users with Chroma keying their videos for VFX post production.
Not elgato product.The gas piston the from elgato are positioned in reverse. This panel is not from Elgato, it is a bad copy made badly!!

Damn I thought it was an alternative or just from the same supplier of elgato but looks like cheap knockoff. EXCEPT it's not cheaper, I got the neweer last week and it has a lean forward fully extended, that I thought was initially strange. I will check my return policy.

1 - Hell no
2 - that doesn't work for situations where you need something that you can put up and take down, nor
3 - doesn't work in the (extremely common and only setup I've had) situation where you're not directly up against a wall.
It is most likely made in China. And they charge you an arm and a leg for it. Did you get it from Amazon? If so I would call them and tell about it. They shouldn't be selling things that do not work.

There are at least three other "brands" of this POS model of green screen now on Amazon. I expect to see more. They are all exactly the same as this one except sold by different companies. Beware of these knockoffs.

Pay attention to which product the reviews say they're for. I have the first review for the collapsible version, the rest are for the normal cloth greenscreens that are grouped on the same product listing. A really horrible Amazon tactic to boost reviews and confuse the shopper.

You might be better off with a cheap green bed sheet.
If you have somewhere to hang it and get the wrinkles out, it's certainly a cheaper option for many - just not good for small spaces or where you need to take it down and put it up frequently
Id buy the elgato one if it was less than $120, I just can't afford it.

You mean people expect a well-balanced mechanism with moving parts and tolerances to be for a price of a backdrop stand?
Considering Elgato did it right at less than the price of this ridiculously stupid contraption, yeah maybe.
I think the price that NEEWER put on their version is incidental, looking around i can see identical but slightly cheaper ones, edging out Elgato by a few scant dollars. NEEWER is probably not actually a manufacturer as such but a brand that markets white-label products. I don't think Elgato is making a lot of money on theirs, i mean usually photography equipment of this kind has a 5-fold margin or higher for various reasons, in part because they're targeting a niche market, but the margin on the Elgato greenscreen is certainly much much lower - if it was their core business, as a Western company they'd be heading right towards a bankruptcy.
What i mean by backdrop stand pricing, Adam mentions people complain that Elgato greenscreen is too expensive, and by too expensive they likely don't mean that it's $10 or $20 too expensive but likely twice as much as they're willing to pay, and i don't think that's happening anytime soon. Maybe someday.
