    I'm 39 years old learning the violin to relieve stress and I started learning the violin from your videos, learning to read music notes from Google and I uploaded my videos on Instagram. I didn't think I would get more than a thousand views, you are my greatest teacher, thank you so much Beth🎶🎵🎶 🎶🎶🎶🎶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶💕

    I particularly resonated with your answer for the first question.
    I'm 34, started 12 months ago. And my standards that I held myself are still my worst enemy.
    I ( and I'm assuming other adult students) struggle with a low tolerance with "sounding bad".

    Hello Beth, I would like to request that you post some play along Duets: Bartok, Pleyel, Arias, etc.
    I'm just turned 66 and starting over for the umpteenth time. I went through Maia Bang & Louis Spohr. Maia's course was really a turning point for me, but Louis had some difficult fingerings that weren't explained. So, I play along with Cello Drones for Intonation & I've learned some traditional Bugle Calls to really learn my Triads, which has really opened my ears and led to a lot of tunes that I seem to have stuffed into my memory but are only learned through a process I refer to as Association. I might not even know the name, but I can tell if it starts on the 5th or the Root or the Third. One really brilliant example of this was when I was watching the older version of "Moulin Rouge" (1952) and I could immediately play that song. Love your videos. Cheers, Jack tom Chang

    With kids...you find those who don't want to learn because their parents are forcing them to take lessons. I agree re teaching kids vs adults. I've discovered that there are very few programs for adults. It's as if the world forgets about us once we turn 50, let alone 65!

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab  Před 6 měsíci +2

      The world hasn't experienced first hand, like I have, the amazing learning potential of adults. If so, there would be better programs for adult learners.

    I have another question. I'm about 1 1/2 years into my violin journey and am taking private lessons. My instructor would like me to focus on improving sight reading, which I do believe will benefit me in learning repertoire more efficiently. However I find it difficult to stay focused on the score if the bpm of the metronome is significantly below my resting heart rate (around 76 bpm) so 65 bpm and slower is where my focus wanders. Is this unusual? How can I structure my sight reading studies to remain focused while improving cognitive processing speed of a score?

    Didn't see this live however, maybe you can help me solve a dilemma I've found. I'm starting to learn and practice 7th position. I find that on the G string any notes higher than the A in seventh position start to sound grainy. I've tried different contact points, different amounts of tilt, different bow speed, different amounts of weight into the string nothing has resolved this issue. Ever other note available on my instrument has beautiful resonant smooth tone. I believe my instrument is more than capable of a lush G string in high position. I play a Christopher Jacoby built Guerneri violin professionally set up, I have a freshly rehaired Sivori German pernambuco bow, I use thomastik infeld Vision titanium solo medium weight strings and Leather wood Bespoke supple blend rosin. Can you tell me if this what might resolve the issue I'm experiencing? Thanks

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab  Před 6 měsíci

      Sounds like you have a wolf on that note. It is extremely common even in valuable violins. I have a little bit of one on the C, and when I play it high on the G string, I can hear it. The only solution is to see a luthier. They can adjust the sound post to minimize it. There are also wolf eliminators, which I believe is available for violin, although generally are for cellos.

    How high should my fingerboard be..?
    My strings are very tense, I use Alice A707 strings..
    I have filled my bridge down, but I feel my fingerboard is low..

    • @sadhbhdelahunt
      @sadhbhdelahunt Před 7 měsíci +1

      You need to go to a proper luthier, (violin repairer, not guitar, double base , cello , mandolin etc) a professional. It sounds to me your butchering your violin. There are standard bridge, nut , string heights all relative to violins.

    • @violinlab
      @violinlab  Před 7 měsíci

      If you're able to take it in, that would be ideal. Sometimes the bridge is fine, but it feels high because the neck angel has sagged. If it's a new violin, then more likely the bridge wasn't well crafted for the violin.
