Just in case you. didn't know. Sisu is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness and is held by us Finns to express our national character. It is generally considered not to have a literal equivalent in English.
Finnish actor Jorma Tommila is 64 years old.
In October, I caught Sisu at the Sitges Film Festival, last minute, as a time filler. Film of the fest for me. Non-stop fun, standing ovation at the end... every person I spoke to after, I convinced them to go see it. I managed to catch the last screening to see it a second time. And, amazingly for a festival that usually rewards artsy films, it got the Jury AND the Audience Awards. Incredible film. In our awards ceremony, we also gave it Best Film, and in my Best of 2022, it came in at Number 2. And, given Number 1 was a short, it was the highest-rated feature length film of the year for me.

Sisu is a holy word for us. Sisu means for me that you'll never ever give up, in face of adversity. The scenery was played after Finland lost both wars in ww2 against the Soviet. The Soviet forced us to an armistice and declared against the nazi's in the Finnish Lapland. This war was called as "The Lapland wars" where the Nazi's burned the entire Lapland in face of the Finland betray.
Plus from the war, some of finnish war heros became cult figurs in Finland. Simo Häyhä, the world's deadliset sniper killed over 505 and 100 - 200 men with machine gun. His company of 31 men defended during the winter war against 4000 soviet men.
Aarne Edward Juutilainen, "The Terror of Morocco", whom his legend was at the Battle of Kollaa, when his company went behind enemy lines to steal some Soviets weapons, to use against them. Then we've Lauri Tröni, whom also served US Army special forces as Larry Throne, whom the book of "The Green Berets" was based on. One his solider Mauno Koivisto, whom he also considering as a friend. He became the Finland's President from 1982 to 1994.
We finns are fighters. If you woken the SISU within us, there is no stopping us. So when u use SISU, they're no stopping you.

I don't think they said his specific age in the movie, but they said he is Winter War veteran, but didn't say anything about Continuation War, and this movie is in the time of Lapland War, which means he has to be around 64 years old. The actor is also around the same age.

I love the John Wick trend. These movies go for maximum fun and have the ultra mega cool vibe that's always interesting. John Wick series, Nobody, Bullet Train are all my favorites.

Sisu's director Jalmari Helander is one of the best filmmakers in Finland, if you ever watch his film Rare Exports you'll never feel the same about Christmas. Can't wait to see Sisu, looks like a wild ride

John Wick’s uncle and John Rambo’s grampa. Kicking arse runs in the family.
Saw the movie last week and it is a lot of fun, a really entertaining ride. Tarantino-esque, fantastical, bonkers, small and concise. You should also check out Big Game, another Jalmari Helander movie starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ray Stevenson to mention a few.

Finland was actually allies with the Nazis though, fighting the Soviets together. Then after the Soviets won that conflict one of the terms of Finlands surrender was that they had to remove German soldiers from Finland which is when fighting broke out between Finns and Germans in the northern Lappland part of the country where this movie takes place

The director of Sisu did start his film career with a less heinous character-or brought the heinous back to that character it originally had: "Rare Exports Inc. 2003 & The Official Rare Exports Inc. Safety Instructions 2005"
This movie gives me a sort of "Overlord" vibe,,,with the relentless killing of German soldiers. A goodhearted...but tenacious Finn seeks revenge on the mistreatment of the underdog. Looks to be a nice bit of gore eyecandy..looking forward to this. I always wondered about the innocent present day American Germans feel about these types of movies. I suppose...just like the American Indians felt about all those slanted cowboy movies...don't you think? CinePals...... always enjoy your channels perspective..Kudos!!

I approve of this video/trailer . This could be John Wicks father or Grandfather i know they said in the opening he lost his wife and child but dude could have knocked up someone men have needs just saying .. I really like this kind of action packed film and am looking forward to seeing it.
I've always been a giant fan of Jalmari Helander's work, ever since I saw him being interviewed on MoonTV, an underground-esque cable TV channel, and I bought his first film Ukkonen (2001) on DVD. ...then people started passing around the Rare Exports shorts and I just knew the feature movie was going to be AWESOME. Then I saw Big Game on the goddamn Big Screeen and HOLY SHIT. THIS DUDE CAN DO ACTION.
