It's hard for me to believe I was so drawn into a film where the lead character has no dialogue until the last scene. Very well done!
Does anyone know what he says at the end ?
@@stephenbull2026 he asks for big bills in exchange because it will be a lot less heavy to carry (than the bags of heavy-ass gold rocks) xD
Finns don't say a lot, but do a lot. 😉
Sisu is a unique Finnish concept. It is a Finnish term that can be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Sisu is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain that courage. It is a word that cannot be fully translated.
True grit?
I think one thing that makes sisu so hard to define is that it exhibits itself in so many ways. Here is an example that is personal to me. I'll start off by saying my parents were born in the US to Finnish immigrants. The one thing my mom wanted was to have children. However, she had problems sustaining a pregnancy. Over the course of several years, she had 9 late-term miscarriages, the last two of which which resulted in baby girls born alive, but who only survived for hours afterwards. On the 1Oth try, I was born. (Due to the efforts of a Dr. who finally figured out what was going wrong.) People had told her over and over that she should stop trying, but she was not going to give up until forced to.
Best explanation is in the movie.
Tenacity
@@nicholauscrawford7903 Part of it, yes. another definition I've seen is "Extraordinary determination, courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity. An action mindset which enables individuals to see beyond their present limitations and into what might be. Taking action against the odds and reaching beyond observed capacities. On the other hand, sometimes it's just bull-headed stubbornness.
"Does he think he is immortal?"
"No, he just refuses to die."😁
He is just Finnish😂
Sisu has always been 80-90% "raw courage and stoicism" and 10-20% of over-the-top legendary stories of amazing Sisu ... so I think the over-the-top actually fits the tradition of Sisu
Yeah, its supposed to be.
I agree👍
I watch these to watch you guys clowning more than I care about the movie review.
Same. I haven't seen more than half of these movies.
Sort of same here. I watch to see what they think is complete bs, but I also like there clowning more, if I had yo choose I would want to keep the clowning over the real commentary
i still dont even know what Sisu is about.
I died laughing when he throws the land mine at the guy 😂
same my favorite scene
As a Finn and a former Sissi in the FDF, like the main character, I'm looking at this purely from entertainment perspective even when the tank and Dushka are from 1950s (and ... Soviet to boot. lol). That was the first thing I reacted to as "come on!" ;) The point is really (and yes, over the top way) that 'sisu' means you don't give up ... ever -- even when it is flat-out stupid not to. That's just what you get in the mom's milk here. The most fear inducing person in my childhood was my grandma and not so much my WWII maternal grandpa who was also a Sissi and served in the Lappish War 1945, because Winter War 1939-40 and Continuous War 1941-44 weren't just enough for one man to go through... Anyway, love the movie, love the message, and to hell with all the inaccuracies and over-the-top stuff. SISUA, PERKELE!!!! HAKKAA PAALLE!!!
couldnt agree more, the movie is awesome
@@FNGACADEMY So is your content, which I watch a lot because of our martial connection, as Sissis, to the Green Berets through CPT Lauri Torni aka Green Beret MAJ Larry A Thorne. Salute!
EXACTLY!!! woohooo! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👊
Well said, everyone.
Hakkaa päälle pohjan poika, saatana. oli hyvä pätkä :D
Jorma Tommila, as the old guy Aatami, is brilliant. He just deadpans the whole movie brilliantly. And Aksel Hennie, as the Nazi officer, is also really good, quite happy to sacrifice his men for the gold and his escape. This just such a fun movie!
"Throws a landmine like a clown throwing a pie" made me snort-laugh for so long I started goose-laughing. Thanks Kurt 🤣
Absolutely love this movie saw twice in the theater and own it now. One day I will go to Finland as it sounds like a fantastic country. From America. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Brothers I LOVE Sisu , it’s so off the cuff and well shot and it doesn’t take itself serious , one of my favorites for this year
The movie's director, Jalmari Helander, said the 1982 film First Blood and the real-life Finnish military sniper Simo Häyhä, who fought against the Red Army, served as inspirations for the film.
Simo Häyhä often referred to by his nickname, The White Death, was a Finnish military sniper in World War II during the 1939-1940 Winter War against the Soviet Union. He used a Finnish-produced M/28-30 (a variant of the Mosin-Nagant rifle) and a Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun. He is believed to have killed over 500 enemy soldiers during the Winter War (averaging 5 kills per day), the highest number of sniper kills in any major war. On 21 December 1939, Häyhä achieved his highest daily count of 25 kills. Because of this, he is often regarded as the deadliest sniper of all time.
nice!
A doctor/surgeon did a breakdown on all of the guys injuries from Sisu. He talked about the water scene also, and did say that there definitely is enough oxygen on the exhaled breathe to be able to breath from, as long as you can get that air into your lungs. Even if it's mixed with some water, as long as you have the discipline to breathe it in, and back out, you'll oxygenate your blood enough to buy some more time.
the movie is awesome, the airplane crash is divine intervention and I love how he looks walking into that bank at the very end.......this is all that matters!
@@andrabook8758 Also to be fair there have been plane crash survivors in similar circumstances. So it's not as far fetched as the guys think. There arw a couple of famouse craah survivors, you can even look them up on google. For instance a female flight attendant survived a major passenger jet crash, because she was in here fold out flight attendant seat, in a similar position as in Sisu. The crash was also at an almost completely straight down angle like in the movie. The flight attendant survived that crash, with barely a scratch I believe.
Yup, that's Dr. Chris Raynor. Been following his channel ever since I discovered his video about how Space Marine body work from the medical perspective.
@@AlexSDU Haha, Same! Found him through his Space Marine videos...subscribed from there.
Glad you guys watched and enjoyed this one. I loved it as well, despite its ridiculousness. Reminds me of Paul Verhoeven films like Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers.
Those were all pretty deep movies. Robocop had some really complex undertones to it and it still holds up. The over-the-top consumerism of the 1980's. "I just think good business is where you find it." Total Recall was amazing. I think it was the highest budgeted movie ever at that time? They took a huge gamble and it paid off.
i loved this one!!
see but thing is, I don't think the film really got how retarded it was. Like they clearly expected us to fear the main character right? But the guys trying to kill him were literally literally mentally handicapped
You so right
Love Srarship Troopers "parody"!
While I cant get in the military as I wanted due to braces and having ASD I love these dudes and helped me get through the darkest times this year.
glad to help bro
you don't mess with a pissed off Finn! Everyone knows that! 😂
I watched this movie twice, couldnt stop yelling, FUCK YEAH!!!! and laughing. Awesome flick!!!!
Superhuman strength, wild luck, a guy who keeps somehow coming back from certain death. The actors did a great job of slowly becoming scared to death of this guy with the looks on their faces. I like filmmakers who take chances like this. They took the format of one of those campfire legends and put it on film. And I'm glad you guys somehow managed to fit in yet another Ninja Turtle reference into this analysis.
I know how Sisu survived the plane crash… he used his huge brass balls as shock absorbers! 😂😂😂
must have lmao
Nope, they weren't made out of brass...but Vibranium.
Odin interferred, sh*t up! Just enjoy the insanity, ok? 😉😅😆There are plenty of insane military stories...could this one had been filmed a little better, aka more realistically? sure... but if you were in a plane crash would you REALLY know how it went down? no. Sh*t just happens, ok? You have to imagine this as a myth based on real events. And we all know the best myths are embellished a bit.... it was probably a lake, not a marsh, there probably was a parachute which malfunctioned, he probaly had to swim out? But would the cashier at the bank know that level of detail? No... And THUS, a myth is born 😈
🤣
His name is Aatami not sisu. Sisu is finnish term.
It’s so over the top and plays into it so well. Loved this movie
yea it was very well done
The phrase is "suspend disbelief." Love you guys.
"Suspend belief" or "just fucking have fun".
You guys are hilarious! 😂😂😂 Man, you hit the nail on the head with your LMTV tarp comment! I’ve cursed and many tarps for not staying up on top! Even when the truck is not moving, it’s impossible to get that thing to stay up!
Exactly!!
The hand movement when you mouth to mouth is hilarious.
You should watch The Men Who Stare at Goats next
ill check it out
The mine throwing and killing the enemy happened irl kinda when attacked by the enemy at night at a checkpoint Dipparsad Pun of Royal Gurkhas on 17 September 2010 fought them off. Over the course of the engagement, Acting Sergeant Pun fired 250 rounds from his machine gun, 180 from his rifle, used 17 hand grenades and a Claymore mine, before beating the last fighter, after his machine gun jammed, by throwing the tripod of his machine gun.
Laughed so much at this review..... You guys rock 🤣👍👍
My favorite part of this movie is when a guy tied up is watching sisu stitch himself up naked. The prisoners face as sisu screams in pain and anger while he tends to his wounds was hilarious
I’ve been binge watching this channel and I’m loving it. Keep it up guys. 🤗 looking forward to more.
Awesome! Thank you!
@@FNGACADEMY you are so welcome! Have a great week. Stay safe guys.
Great to see you both again.. always makes me laugh 👍
appreciate it!
Love it as always. Great episode guys!
appreciate it!
Moral of the story (however over the top that one is), never piss off a Finn because we don't give up!
Great reaction! Glad you guys watch movies like everyone should. Not how realistic or factual the movies are. You watch for the entertainment. Fun fact about the movie the young guy driving the tank is Jorma Tommila (Sisu) son in real life. Onni Tommila also was the kid in the movie "Big Game" with Samuel L Jackson. Another good movie.
Thanks for serving guys 🏆🇺🇸
This was, un-ironically, one of the best movies I watched this year!! Lead character has 11 words of dialogue in the entire movie!! 😂😂
I know!!! isn't it great! my ears love this character dude...
he is kinda like Reacher but with a less predictable story line. I can't really decide which I like best. I think I would have liked Reacher better IF the author had not gone so stereotypical-dumb with the story line..... as it is, I like Sisu better now, bc the story was a lot more interesting, and didn't feel totally stereotypical and predictable. I had no idea how the movie will end, so that's perfect.
On those LMTV tarps. If it's properly set up there's going to be a bar and a string attached to where it pulls that bar rolling up the tailgate entrance. Being a 91B in the Army, I've never seen an LMTV with a tarp properly set up so I feel you on that struggle with trying to throw that tarp over LOL!
SWEET!! WANTED THIS ONE!!❤❤
Awesome film and great breakdown by Shawn & Kurt as usual, hilarious boys 👍
GREAT episode!!
This movie was only in the theaters for two weeks in my city, it was just thrown out to make room for other films so they can have 8 theaters a day that no one went to the new movies.
Pro Tip here for the YOUNGER GUYS....Stick Matches up until the 1980s were strike on tips, meaning you could light them WITHOUT the striker pad on the box. We used to light stick matches with our fingernails one handed all the time. You could even drop a match so that the TIP hit concrete and LIGHT THEM.
loving the new camera angles, keep it up
thank you!
Resilience, determination… Fully based on a true story. Best Finn movie ever.
Remember the greatest Sniper of all time comes from Finland
This was a great movie. 😂😂 I loved every bit of it
Just waiting for inglorious bastards. 😮 pretty sure Sisu is John wick's grandfather by the way...
" I dont wanna say in case Able leaves this in " ABLE IS ALWAYS WATCHING
About the lake scene, typically bodies of water in northern lapland really are crystal clear. Fell lakes have no undergrowth or sandy/muddy bottoms because there's very little plants.
8:02 throwing antitank mine like its a frisbee😅
Eeeeeey Kurt! Back again!!! Its great hes here more often again
Love the content. Your review of 13 Hours is one of my favorite. Only critique I have, is I would like to see more of the scenes in the movie than personal stories of your time in the armed forces. Thank you for your service, you have this patriots respect. God bless and God bless the USA.
I agree.
Not long before you guys will be Technical Advisors for movies 🤣
Boom! I suggested this 👍🤣another great breakdown 👍👊
I´m glad that Borat had so much fun !
Shout out to the smile on their faces when they watch a bad guy volunteer their life 🤣
This movie was awesome as hell. There's a doctor who has a CZcams channel named Dr. Chris Raynor who does a breakdown of a lot of the crazy scenes from the movie and what would actually happen.
Yup. Been following his channel ever since I discovered his video about how Space Marine body work from the medical perspective.
@@AlexSDU I love those Space Marine videos. Also, his video on ancient torture devices was kinda stomach churning.
*Buck: "Just playing some gay chicken, nothing to see here"* LMFAO
I have never giggled so much at such a ridiculous movie. And watching like-minded people react to it like yall made it all the better. Pure gold
Watched your video yesterday as I make my way through all your videos. I watched the movie right after. Holy sh*t I was not disappointed. Yes, you definitely would have been demonetized if you showed any of those scenes in their full cinematic splendor!
I give it a 10/10 just cause.
I recommend Army Wives because is similar to the Unit but it focuses on the home front (the families left behind living on a base).
I wasnt shocked to find that the same studio that produced JW produced Sisu😂
I'm late to the party but I just saw this movie yesterday & it was awesome
So I'm a bravo, deployed with 10th mountain. Please review The Unit. It's good and bad and one of the most accurate portrayals of military life
Those matches were common at least into the 90’s. I lit them with my thumbnail all the time. You could actually throw them hard against concrete and they would ignite. I guy had some in his pants pocket and was struck by a baseball and they ignited.
Woohoooo! Finally!! 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It is possible to light a match by flicking it like that (as long as it's not a modern safety match). First try is a bit of a gamble though.
Sisu is not fully translatable. It's easier to understand if you are in the finnish mindset. It's the reason why Finland used to win over Sweden in hockey even though they were far below in skills. Truly hard people in every respect.
I spit my drink out about what you said about being in a LMTV , and nope it can’t be done 😂😂😂
impossible task
Aside from the main character is so badass. The dude also have unlimited luck 😂😂😂😂 in all life and death scenario
I liked the movie personally. Yeah, alot of that stuff was definitely like WTF??! But the message being sent is, given the proper motivation😜 mind, body, and will, produce an indomitable spirit. At least that's my take away. That and when I get to his age, I still wanna be an underestimated badass🤠😎👊🏾👍🏾😉
"Gay chicken" took me out. hahahah i've never laughed so hard???
This movie was so cool. Complete insanity but great as F! 21:09 There's no way haha! Tried it as well, no luck 😂😂
I LOVED this one! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Cutting the fuel lines definitely came from Jurassic World when the Indominus Rex broke loose
Very funny, and educational.
I realy loved your breakdown on this movie. Watched it some weeks ago and loughed out lout at the rediculous scenes.
I would appriciate it, if you guys could take a look into "Blood and Gold"...
I was one of the background extra germans, young guy with a round face, mp40 and trench coat
Really cool project
SISU is such a badass movie, I loved it. Based on a Finnish legend. Not on a “true story”.
its a dope movie
exactly!... it's a myth based on a true story 😁😂! and it's perfect!😁😁😁
Awesome 😎👍, hope for video about US Army Special Forces A-team leaders Captains soon.
You got to do the "the covenant"
I just rewatched a movie from my youth and thought “I wonder if Sean and Kurt did a review on this? They must have… it’s a classic Marine flick…” but nope! I’d like to see you guys review Heartbreak Ridge!
Who is the one greatest soldiers of greenberets? Only waffen ss man who is burried in Arlington military cemetery? That guy is Larry Thorne aka Lauri Törni, soldier of three armies. And that guy is real life badass from Finland.
Surviving the plane crash by tying down, was like surviving a nuke by hiding in a refrigerator.
this movie was so outrageous, i thought he was gonna start deflecting shots with his shield from the tank.
he just stares at them and the bullets whimper and run away... duhhh.
The Critical Drinker did a great take on this film. We all needed a film like this. It's not about how real or not real shit is, it's about entertainment. Obviously we all know a body won't stop those rounds, but it looked great in the film. 16:49
Hey guys. I'd recommend reviewing The Objective. It's about an SF team leading a CIA field officer in Afghanistan. Pretty sure you'll enjoy this one
Hey guys! I absolutely LOVE your breakdowns and all you have to say! Really have loved your channel!! I’m often in the hospital and y’all always help me get my mind off of the pain and transplants (liver) for a bit. Really appreciate you all!
Can you do a breakdown of “Special Forces”, the movie about British SF going in to rescue a reporter? It has Diane Kruger, Djimon Hounsou, Benoit Magimal. I’d love to hear what you have to say about the movie! I do apologize because it does have subtitles! But it be great to hear y’all’s thoughts on the movie!!!!! Thank you so much for considering it for me! Love you guys! Y’all are awesome!!!! Thanks for EVERYTHING you have and do, so! 💚🫡
It’s a movie!! That’s what I always hear.
He's the military version of Indiana Jones!
Hi guys, really love watching your reactions to military movies...it's great fun seeing you laugh at Hollywood's attempt at military tactics.
Can I recommend a movie for you to watch and react to.
It's called 'Kajaki' or 'Kilo Two Bravo' it's US Title.
A true story set in Afghanistan 2008.👍
the throat cutting thing could have worked if he's cutting through the trachea too tho: bc typically the ''bubbles" you see is CO2 when they're exhaling under water: "When you breathe, air enters your mouth and moves into the pharynx. The air then goes down into your main airway (trachea) and into your lungs. A flap of tissue called the epiglottis sits over the top of the trachea."
in mouth to mouth, it's a little different bc you're doing it super fast. you're not really exhaling from the lungs, you're mainly using throat pressure. and mouth/throat oxygen.
Oh yeah. I was waiting for this.
First in!
KURT!
Please check out Danger Close! Ranger from Vikings does a good job of commanding in the Vietnam war. The movie depicts the battles pretty realistically.
You've got to review Winter Soldier now😉
His wounds are oozing
Gotta love the full auto, unlimited ammo firing. Would love to have some Hollywood mags. lol
Totally silly, totally awesome.
There is oxygen in blood guys I think that’s more where the movie was headed with that scene
this movie is so good i love it
and yea its shot really well great job to the entire team/cast
it really is bad ass
To light yourself on fire just to chock your enemies…
I loved this movie too. So over the top. And I was happy to see Buck recognized the DShK. LOL
Awesome commentary on a brutal but righteously violent film! If you appreciate this type of quiet, pipe hitting Scandinavian badass, check out a movie called The Salvation. It's a classic "pay back" western starring a Danish dude named Mads Mikkelsen.
