Yes. It's the energy thats so intoxicatingly innocent and happy go lucky. It reminds me of my innocence lost when the world was a better place and hope sprung eternal.
I remember watching this performance on American Bandstand when it first aired. I was a teenager and instantly fell in love with George Michael. I was a die hard fan. I'm so glad I was able to see him in concert years later. What a PHENOMENAL vocalist he was. Gone way too soon. I've LOVED GEORGE MICHAEL every since...He was a great singer, extremely talented and with out a doubt one of the most handsome men in entertainment.
George Michael was an exceptional rapper. I think people forget just how pioneering and edgy this music was in 1982. Wham were doing hip-hop! And it was, and remains, quite fantastic. The 1980s were incredible.
He sure knew how to put rhyme to rhythm. They found the key to the vision Deborah Harry may have had when she did a solo album with Chic after "The Rapture" succes with Blondie. This "Grease-on-the-beach" concept also really worked well.
@@jasfan8247Music-wise they had nothing to do with Blondie or Debbie Harry. Their main influences were Funk, Soul and R&B...and what Blondie does on "The Rapture" leans more towards Spoken Word than Rap...and Rap and Hip Hop is quite not the same by this time (1983)...
@@SmartRobot-wc2fb True about Blondie-the band but Wham breathes Chic all over on Fantastic. And Debbie Harry did a soloalbum with Team-Chic. It's all hidden in the bass. Just bc Chic was out-of-fashion one time their sound is all over the 80's (with UK bands)
@@jasfan8247 Spot on about the Nile Rodgers/Chic influence. Artists like D-Train and others are referenced too; George clearly bathed himself in soul/funk/r&b, so that was to be expected. And his 'flow' is reminiscent of Harry's and other rap dance jams of the early eighties; not something that would register with Melle Mel or Rakim, lol, but it is rap in the broad sense.
This is amazing! I love it when the interviewer asks how old Andrew and George are! I remember when Wham! first started, I was in my first year at University and me and all my friends loved it! We used to rush down to the TV room really early on Top of the Pops night so we'd get a good view of the boys. In 1979 I was 16. My older sister went to Europe after college and brought back the first Wham album. She said they were as big as Elvis back there. I was a huge fan from day 1. Loved every song on the album. Oh. I always had a crush on Andrew. ❤🎶❤️💃🎶
When i'm feeling down, only certain songs can lift me up. I only need to hear the first 2 seconds of Wake me up before you go go, and i am already in a better place.
