I met Billy Bob Thornton in 2000, on the set of Bandits, along with Bruce Willis as well. Bruce was plenty polite and shook hands with many fans. Billy Bob, on the other hand, set the standard. He came out with stacks of autographs, pre-signed. He stayed and talked with all of us. He was married to Angelina Jolie at the time and put up with all the stupid questions. I realize that perhaps he comes off as a bit eccentric, but I've always felt like that's a bit of an act. He's practically Mr. Rogers when he's interacting with fans. Unforgettable.
He’s just a regular guy that became popular...you can’t extract that out of certain people...The person you are behind the curtain also dictates your success....
Over-optimistic..
But..
I'm not gonna fight you for this, "@@hauntedhose". Especially during these times..
37:40 hes got brad on his mind 😂
He’s Mr. Roger’s alternate universal twin.
i just can't get over how beautiful billy bob's face is. does he look as beautiful in real life?
Love how you can tell they all love Lithgow. Whenever he speaks they're all totally focused on him and smiling.
All fellow interviewees and additionally, the interviewer included?
Hearing Ewan McGregor say that he gets really nervous (particularly, how he describes it) is amazing. All I can think of are the amazing deliveries he has produced in his acts. It leaves me in awe.
Billy is quite quiet all the time with pitching in wherever needed, and then from 33:48 - 41:58, it is just him, and the rest of them are just, just listening to him! Just amazing!
Jeffrey Wright is SUPER underrated !!
never heard of him till now ... re-reminds me of another actor Courtney B. Vance
He played MLK in a movie called "Boycott" and he also starred as Basquiat in his biopic.
Very talented. Courtney is amazing too!
His portrayal of Johnny Cochran was phenomenal.
sorry got the names mixed up the guy you mentioned is in was in westworld
Kerra Johnson If someone is sitting at that table, they're not underrated.
John Lithgow has an Oscar! Not underrated. He was huge at one point. Just older now.
I forgot billy bob was there until she acknowledged him around minute 7, lol
I can't believe they got him.
i thought that was richard branson lol Billy bobs the man
lool read this comment at just that time and thought same
You're in the music business too....absolutely no one knows you from the music business Billy Bob.
@@gravyvcolouredhair1731 His point was that was his roots and the conversation he had with Diddy. He wasn't trying to say he was some great musician... But obviously Diddy knew that he was involved in music, hence the conversation...
Riz Ahmed and Jeffrey Wright should work on a project. They are so enlightened about the human consciousness
An enlightened person would have written an essay about how all people are pigeonholed in acting and not just specific groups. He is a fake "Woke" person using todays outrage culture for points to push his career.
@2300 Slatt One of many. Irish are also typecast often when they are really...really Irish.
There are also individuals that are typecast because of their looks. Dolph Lundgren is a prime example. He is one of the most intelligent people to ever act yet he is type-cast as a brute because of his looks...the guy is a literal rocket scientist with a masters in chemical engineering, with an IQ over 160...nope, you play a muscle headed nitwit please.
@@r13hd22 Guess you haven't followed his work for a long time.

At 54:26 Riz Ahmed makes a very valid point. I've heard people write off a show/movie saying it's "too political" when in fact the show/movie wasn't really political at all, just told a story from a different viewpoint than they were used to seeing.
Sterling K. Brown looks like he is in heaven sitting across from John Lithgow. You can tell he has looked up to him for a while.
The "Fo-shizzle" had me DYING!!
I almost didn't hear it. I've never heard it said in a serious tone.
@Jym E. Changa nah, made him sound like hes getting comfortable with the actors and is starting to open up. I applaud your efforts for being a dick.
I thought he was being facetious at first but then he doubled down and said it again. So seriously--it seemed so out of place but I was cracking up. I'm not sure if he meant it to be but it almost felt like he was mocking the other actors response at that point.
Lmao I had to play it back to make sure I heard it right LMAO
Lol, they thought he was joking...he was being serious 😂
At 54:26 Riz Ahmed makes a very valid point. I've heard people write off a show/movie saying it's "too political" when in fact the show/movie wasn't really political at all, just told a story from a different viewpoint than they were used to seeing.
Thank you 👍🏼 for bringing this to my attention. He spoke eloquently to that point. Have a great day. 🙂
I assure you, every decision that has to do with a large budget, executives and a mass audience Is absolutely political. It gets In the way of pure story out of fear of segregating your audience.
People who take no responsibility for their uncomfortable feelings about a movie always blame the movie, as though they came to it without preconceived notions of what it ought to be. When people say a movie is boring I wish they would say I was bored with it. When they say it was offensive I wish they would say they were offended. It would make for a more.honest discussion.
grayforester exactly! Films that are cerebral, require paying attention, or take uncomfortable viewpoints are attacked as boring, confusing, too political or not escapist.
When I hear those attacks I see those people as saying , they don’t have the attention span, or the desire to examine difficult topics. The problem is that’s the majority of any society.
Simple mindless fluff will always garner more attention than thoughtful artistic brilliance.
Queue the emotional responses
Fox spoke so intelligently and was disappointed the host turned the subject away from RIZ around 55 minutes to talk about the wealthy royals.... uh so much sucking up to
Billy Bob Thornton with the best acting advice.
DaveItYourself he's the man
no
Billy Bob Thorntons advice starting the 33:50 is everything.
Dominick Critelli i thought the same thing, the depth of his insight hit home. I love these round tables and just discovered them a few weeks ago.
Well..
I did love his choice of phraseology, the one-&-only thing about him in the entire episode that stood out to me BUT..
...Nothing non-theoretical can be binary across the cosmos so I can't say “everything” is not overselling that oh-so-ingenious “advice”.
Just take the L from her “uh-huh-uh-huh-uh-huh” attack.
still got brad on his mind 😂
I didn't expect to watch this in its entirety but the quality of conversation is so amazing. Wow, the time went by quickly.
That's why SundanceTV® is producing this!
Happens everytine
Happens all the time to me when I watch these ha
i'm here for Riz, but I was so completely impressed by how articulate and self-aware everyone else was, particularly Billy Bob Thornton.
Riz is an absolutely amazing person. His presence in mainstream entertainment generates immense hope for the future.
Couldn't Have Summarised It Better...!
Hmm, private school then Oxford. Then complains about other people being privileged.
Riz Ahmed is a really smart guy.
Julia Silva most British people are usually smart
Not surprising...he's an Oxford graduate.
As someone who lives in England I can tell you categorically that is definitely not true :)
Ratso Rizzo, no we have our fair share of dumb people and most days that includes me.
Super hot
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sterling Brown's presence in this. He listens so actively, his reactions are so large yet genuine, his voice is so smooth. Damn I got me a crush
Billy Bob Thornton speaks perfectly on acting. so wonderful.
John Lithgow is the coolest guy ever.
True.
He's Barney Stinson's dad after all
Roberta in The World According to Garp. The Trinity Killer. Third Rock From The sun. So versatile.
@@Nautilus1972 Don't forget Cliffhanger. He's such a great bad guy, jesus christ.
Even with that killer face :)
Billy Bob Thorton is lowkey Lorne Malvo in real life
This panel was phenomenal. Jeffrey Wright is astonishing. I love his work.
I had no idea Riz Ahmed was so funny. He had me CACKLING.
i've seen some of his other interviews, he's really witty
Same!!! I hadn’t seen him in anything other than Night of & had no idea he wasn’t American even. Majorly crushing on him now, his voice is silky smooth. Wish he had been engaged more in this interview, my only qualm.
"CACKLING" ?!?... are you a witch?? 🙂
If you didn't know he was funny then you haven't seen Four Lions, so, you should go do that, like immediately.
Finally a non-YELLING comment...!
Although..
He was the reason I took this "RoundTable" bait, BUT..
I'm a simple man. I see Ewan McGregor, I watch!
This host Lacey Rose is 1000 times better than Stephen "The Interrupter" Galloway... I hope they locked him away somewhere...
I base my parenting on Big Fish
@@leannedrecun7487 I love this
Are these actors or philosophers? Damn, best roundtable yet!
they are ACTORS. They can make you believe they are anything you want them to be.
This one WAS profound in places ✔️
hands down
Are these actors or philosophers? Damn, best roundtable yet!
Shameless #copypaste..., Ms "@@abbyswan7535".
Billy's voice commands the ear to listen. Brilliant performer
So,when an actor finishes his /her movie, they feel the same as when one finishes a good book.Never knew that.
The great thing about these is seeing the younger actors take in and learn from the older actors.
Indeed.
HOWEVER..
I'd say its the other way around
Lithgow is no slouch, but Wright is a BRILLIANT man.
Sterling's voice is EVERYTHING to me right now. It's so soothing and I want him to read me stories. And Ewan's accent!
And Riz. So beautiful. My word.
I love seeing actors geek about each other's works and careers.
And I like how they were allowed to be political. Everything is indeed political. Some politics are just so mainstream that they don't seem political. All these men have such interesting things to say.
People complain about this moderator's interjection and listening noises, but I'd prefer those over the male moderator's interruptions and conversation switches.
I like how perceptive the interviewer is..how she carefully places questions at the right lulls in the conversation or to the guests who haven't spoken in a while. Excellent work!
uh uuuuuh for sure!
Riz Ahmed and Jeffrey Wright should work on a project. They are so enlightened about the human consciousness

Did you literally copy-pasted a comment, "@@kymow3982"?
billy bob's accent at 11:31 gets me every time.
Different than in the rest of episode?
Jeffrey Wright has such a great voice. It was a good choice to have him with the open narration of The Batman trailer . Sets the tone. I would love some audiobooks read by him. Can't wait to see more of his Jim Gordon

Riz Ahmed is fucking amazing in every role he does. What a badass brown guy!
You sound like a fucking idiot.

I agree Riz is dope. But if he wasnt brown and say something equally unimportant, would you need to mention it?
If he was left handed, would it matter?

This host Lacey Rose is 1000 times better than Stephen "The Interrupter" Galloway... I hope they locked him away somewhere...
By "Josh 'The Interrupter' Holloway"... you mean Stephen "The Abrupt Prick" Galloway?
Lacey Rose is interrupting plenty. They just pretend not to acknowledge it because they don't want to appear sexist.
Ahum. Yup. Hmm-mm. Shoare.
She didn't cut anybody off or anything but everytime Billy was speaking she'd turn into a really impatient budgie that squacks distracting 'I'm listening' phrases constantly.
I think my breaking point was at 35:57....there is 1 UHUH! too much...so FUCK HER!!!!! rather someone interupting and keeping the conversation going than not be able to listen someone without UHUH AHAA AH YEAH SURE etc.
kaytagi I still miss Stacey, but Lacey is getting better.
"I like the idea of a guy who knows what it's like to be somebody, but right now he's not" Billy Bob philosophizing the shit outta this roundtable yo!
Damn, I wish Daniel Day-Lewis was in this to discuss/defend method acting when Thornton discusses his approach. Would've been a very interesting conversation.
Tis Cayea When does he talk about it?, would be interesting to hear, but i dont want to watch the whole thing..
Tis Cayea I do too. Method acting works for some and not for others. I personally love the theater actors and the skills they have. I would love to hear a discussion on the pros and cons of method vs theater trained.
krisj827 interstingly enough Daniel Day Lewis started off in theatre
I
Billy Bob was not disparaging Method Acting for any one else. And he says so in the beginning of his comments. He was speaking for himself. There many actors who are not Method Actors. I believe Daniel would clearly understand Billy’s comments sand respect them.
While watching BBT explain his method of acting I was thinking to myself, I wish there's a roundtable with DDL, that'd be an interesting one too. There's no need to defend if you're not attacked though.
I wish everyone would of let Ewan Talk I would of loved to hear his stories..
Jeffrey Wright and John Lithgow are Killers! Those guys are amazing
Billy bob thorton is so interesting
Yes, he is a real artist. He has such an interesting perspective on things.
And Ewan McGregor isn't.

This was a great round table: A wonderful and diverse mix of actors, all handled suburbly by Lacey. She takes a very improv feel with the interviews; lets the actors riff and picks up on the current conversation meta to build to other questions.
Also, I love watching the actors geek out with the other actors, talking about their work and showing themselves as fans of each other.
except for her incessant insincere sounding "uh-huhs" which drove me nuts, I really enjoyed her questions
@@fubliani1882 100%. Her constant need to be vocal takes away from the interview, but it was six years ago so hopefully she's had some growth since then. We're here to listen to the actors, not the handler. They should only "interrupt" if it goes on for too long, to gently guide it back to a new topic.
Smoked a joint, started painting and hit play. Two minutes in Lithgow makes me tear up.
Five out of these six men have been nominated for an Emmy. Congratulations to them all and well deserved.
I'VE LITERALLY NEVER CLICKED ON A LINK THIS FAST
Dude dogs can be trained and act it aint that hard...ohhhh whats this and that bitch STFU
DO. NOT. YELL!
This is the most diverse table in THR's history. THe caliber of talent at this table is just superb. Thank you for this THR.
Unfortunately..
Isn't it the inaugural-year?
Ewan McGregor always looks so happy lmao.
I nearly pist myself when Sterling said for shizzle
damn!!@43:20 mark i thought that riz was legit gonna start rapping
but damn!!!he is such an eloquent speaker and very inclusive as well. i wanted them to discuss more but oh well
On the "...gladiatorial doggy.." part?
Damn yes
John Lithgow is enormous. He makes Riz look like a hobbit.
Yea. But Riz's talent is huge, so it balances out! :)
Riz has a bigger penis
jay35833, and you know that how? Riz has never done a fully nude scene in any of his films, not that I can recall. Keep dreaming....
I think that's a lot of why he got cast in The World According To Garp; he's much too big to rock a knee length ensemble.
John Lithgow is basically the american Stephen Fry
The Man who Wasn't There is one of the most underrated movies of all time and Thornton's performance is amazing
Billy Bob is 100% right. Actors CAN NOT play smarter than they are. It falls flat whenever they try.
This is one of the best conversations on acting and film I have ever seen. Outstanding host, outstanding guests. (And, of course, I'm in love with Billy Bob.) Bravo to you all.
"uh huh uh huh uh huh sure sure sure"
OneRequiem123 🙉 drove me bonkers
Yeah, she should shut the fuck up
"Fo shizzle, fo shizzle."
Agreed.
*sigh* def needs some new "active listening sounds"...or silence.
What an absolute treat it’d be to watch and listen to Matthew McConaughey reflecting on his process for Rust Cohle in True Detective.
It's always interesting to watch these things and pick out the one in the room who has the respect of everyone at the table. There's no doubt here that It's John Lithgow.
The different actors are absolutely fantastic. Each brings something different to the "table".
Riz Ahmed is next level.
Jesus, you think you're a smart person who has deep insights into things, then you hear a guy like him speak. His insights are insights about insights, which opens up a next level conversation.
Guy is smart as fuck.
You know, the reason that these videos are so interesting is that there's something deeply fascinating about hearing a discussion between a bunch of people who deeply understand their craft. And they're not necessarily trying to be entertaining; they're just talking to each other.
Am addicted to this Roundtable videos!🎥📺
riz ahmed’s accent is delectable
I have loved Ewan, Billy Bob, and John for years, but it was wonderful hearing from and getting to know the other actors. What a great group of gentlemen at this table, I enjoyed every minute of it!

I’ve been watching round tables past few days. And this one is my favorite discussion so far! They all covered such human topics
What other kinds of topics are there?
Jeffrey Wright is amazing!
Jeffrey Wright is a phenomenal actor
Billy is a fantastic actor. His thoughts on performance and acting I couldn't possibly disagree more, but it is fascinating how many processes there are to get to the character.
Ray Stussy , The Trinity Killer , Commissioner Gordon , Lorne Malvo , Randall Pearson and Riot all in the same table
i think one of the unspoken things about these features is how well edited they are. just imagine the amount of seamless cutting people don't pick up on.
Loved watching Jeffrey Wright and Ewan studying what Billy Bob is saying (@36:53)
Jeffrey Wright such an underrated actor!!! And Billy Bob too...
Wouldn’t it be amazing to watch an HBO show with this ensemble of fine actors? Loved it when J. Lithgow said to J. Wright: Now, be very careful… I haven’t quite caught up yet 😅😂
I absolutely love these roundtables, it's so fantastic to watch and listen to such talented actors of who are many of my favourites - talk about and describe things that would you would never usually get to hear in simply movie-premier-interviews as well as their interactions with each other.
Love Sterling. People vs OJ was great. Some of the best courtroom scenes I've seen. Superb performances. Just gave you a sense of the tension and the "feel" of what it must of been like at the time. Cleverly structured as well. Shout out to Sarah Paulson who is argumentatively the best actress on TV today.
I don't know why, but a few people keep mixing up Josh Holloway (the actor who played Sawyer in Lost) with Stephen Galloway (the dude who used to do these roundtables). It is hilarious to me and I hope it keeps happening
WAAAIIITTTT..
This is not the inaugural year?
The hosts interviewing technique is so much better than the other guy, she actually acknowledges what the actors are saying and segways properly between topics, rather than just randomly skipping through topics
“The other guy” must've some name?
one of the best roundtables I've seen, so much insight and deeply thoughtful commentary... awesome
Great roundtable! They all seemed respectful and genuine toward eachother. The host did a good job as well.
I've always thought highly of Billy Bob Thornton. What a terrific actor!
I love that moment from 55:00 onwards, the deep understanding, moment of solidarity and meaningful glances, Riz, Sterling, and Jeffrey seem to have of each other's point, because at the end of the day as POC they understand exactly what the other is saying without even needing to finish their thoughts.
Also notice the abrupt but obvious turn away from the issues them three were talking about by the host, you could see the expression on their faces because they knew why
I would say that she shouldn't have taken the conversation to another place when it was there it was rude and unthoughtful. But I think that especially Ewan and John were hearing carefully and respectfully and I liked that a lot (actually the three white guys, lol) they didn't try to intrude or to take the word away from the people that actually knew what they were talking about.
Not really that I'm trying to praise them for doing the polite thing, but more privileged people really need to learn this.
serpentinefireball you're projecting your racism of collective thought based on skin color. People don't think the same things because they're the same color.
Andrea S people living with 1st world privileged need to stop acting like identity politicing takes away from the fact they're part of the global 1%
