How can we measure the importance of scientific work? Why do we reject new ideas? And is string theory really where physics stops? I had the pleasure of discussing the state of science with none other than the longtime friend of the podcast, Eric Weinstein. Enjoy!

I think we need to go back to rÂČ and the three dimensional physics of the Inverse Square Law. Even back to the spherical 4πrÂČ geometry Huygens’ Principle of 1670. The Universe could be based on the most simple geometry that forms the potential for evermore complexity. Forming not just physical complexity, but also the potential for evermore-abstract mathematics.

I literally see it in this generation of people who grew up on phones they all act the same they don't take action when action is necessary they won't act they won't do anything even when a inevitability is knocking at the door and is going to disrupt their entire life if they don't act they still won't act until their life is completely disrupted! This is short form videos wreaking havoc on the attention span of the population and making it so people are incapable of seeing inevitabilities ahead of their trajectory...

@@fredod4669 Dream on. We'll never solve any of these problems. They've been studying electromagnetism for 200 years and still don't know how electricity works. I'd argue that there is no such thing as science, that all we've really had is cutting-edge engineering. That's great for figuring out how to cram more data on a fiber optic cable but because we don't know any of the causal factors, we're just guessing and can only move forward through pain staking experiment and testing (and that's slow and expensive).
Stated another way, we pretend to have certainty that we don't really have. People believe things based on non-conscious emotional brain systems and then invent rationalizations after the fact to make it sound like they're critical thinkers. And educated big-brains are even worse at this then regular people. This was shown by James Burnham 100 years ago. Who would have thought that political philosophers would be practicing real science (searching for disconfirmatory evidence and able to make predictions 100 years out)?
I'm not crazy. I'd accept the argument that chemistry is real science. But if you look into solid state physics to try and find out how free electrons move inside a metallic conductor you've got to see these guys are just hoping and guessing.

Want to share with you my "theory" about dark matter. it seems like a good place for it.
I think there is a certain limit to the transfer of energy between two points. particles.
I think it is strongly related to the speed of light.
Аt the moment it looks like this - if two points move faster than the speed of light relative to each other, they cannot interact directly and transfer energy to each other. those. pass through one another without interaction, as if they do not exist for each other.
Thus we get, dark matter is space or particles moving faster than the speed of light relative to us, our space. We see their interaction thanks to points and particles, whose relative speed to us and dark matter is less than the speed of light.
because the speed of light has a strong connection with mass and energy, most likely they also participate in this limit.
This is not only a "theory" about dark matter but also the key to the multiverse, the transmission of information and travel faster than the speed of light.
This is more like my speculation than a theory, but I like it. Simple and elegant.
Can be tested, most likely, in a hadron collider, passing accelerated particles through the lightest and coolest possible particles.
I want to hear your opinion about this.

      @shawns0762 Pƙed 24 dny +2

The known, fundamental phenomenon of dilation (sometimes called gamma or y) explains galaxy rotation curves/dark matter. Mass that is dilated is smeared through spacetime relative to an outside observer. It's the phenomenon behind the phrase "mass becomes infinite at the speed of light". Time dilation is just one aspect of dilation, it's not just time that gets dilated. A graph illustrates its squared nature, dilation increases at an exponential rate the closer you get to the speed of light.
Dilation will occur wherever there is an astronomical quantity of mass such the centers of very high mass stars and the overwhelming majority of galaxy centers.
The mass at the center of our own galaxy must be dilated. This means that there is no valid XYZ coordinate we can attribute to it, you can't point your finger at something that is smeared through spacetime. More precisely, everywhere you point is equally valid. In other words that mass is all around us.
Dilation does not occur in galaxies with low mass centers because they do not have enough mass to achieve relativistic velocities. It has recently been confirmed in 6 very low mass galaxies including NGC 1052-DF2 and DF4 to have no dark matter, in other words they have normal rotation rates. This also explains why all planets and all binary stars have normal rotation rates, not 3 times normal

@@DrBrianKeating Science depends on us telling the truth. Technology can interfere with that, as social media goes after people for saying things they don't like...so some people back off, from social pressure. Eric says everyone with a new idea is treated as a crazy person...as if that's a bad thing. No it's not. It's essential to embrace the craziness:
Ed Dutton the Jolly Heretic has tons of data on genius. One of the strong personality predictors for genius is being very disagreeable, much like a criminal is very disagreeable. So a genius is a criminal with a high IQ, Ed says. We all need to be OK with people thinking we are crazy. If you have a genius idea, you might be crazy, or just very disagreeable. Being thought of as crazy should be a badge of honor. We need to train ourselves to listen to others, then disregard them if you think they are wrong. But, accept a difference of opinion. Just don't let it stop you.
Science is in it's Karen Phase. Karen Science, driven by social media. We politicized science already. My objection to the global warming agenda is not the science. It was the weaponization of science for political purposes and social control....via media. We're all hooked up to media, it's like being in a global village, we are all under the eye of Karen. We need to teach people that being disagreeable is OK. Masculine traits like courage should be encouraged.
My disagreeable idea for this is, women evolved as far more likely to be agreeable, far less likely to be disagreeable. That's why 99% of all people in jail are men, so are 99% of all geniuses. As feminist Camille Paglia put it long before me, "You have more male Mozarts than female Mozarts, because you have more male Jack the Rippers than female ones." I agree. Unpacking the impact of biology and technology and not let it screw everything up, will take a while.
Eric is a great conversationalist. Dave Rubin and his husband had a supper with Donald Trump. Dave said he enjoyed that evening. Eric would be a great guy for Trump to invite to dinner. Don't exclude people: Invite Sam Harris along, then bring the Trump kids. Sam can test out his theory of Donald Trump being a supposed monster. He can tell Ivanka what he thinks of her dad. To her face.

These biases have flourished within scientific academia forever. Since Copernicus no one with new ideas has ever had an easy time of it
imagine walking into a room full of old men who have spent their entire lives perfecting a theory or a way of doing something
and you stroll in and in five minutes you and your new idea prove to them that they have wasted their whole lives in the pursuit of BS
.of course they are going to run you out on a pole and burn you at the stake. lol duh
