    Thanks for the share. These are all very common violations. Codes are dependent on your local jurisdiction because the adoption of new codes is a vote from the board of inspectors. Always check with your local inspectors because a 2016 code may be used instead of a 2024 code.

      Gotta love the DIYers that think 4 years of apprentice school and 8000 work hours are not necessary. I'm just glad they don't have DIYers building hospitals and schools. 120 volts still kills more people in the USA than any other voltage.

    We failed ours (speaking of the metal construction) inititally because we drilled holes in our red iron columns to pass the MC Cable (detached garage) and the inspector asked if we had a letter from the building engineer saying it was okay.
    The engineer later said it was 100% fine at the size/location we had the hole and issued a letter but this caused us to fail inspection.

      @@SteveG__04236_ At least 30 inches of clearance on both sides of the electrical box - this is in the electrical code. So I guess it's up to us to determine what that means lol.
      The idea is to have access on both sides of the panel to service it.

    Don't use WD40. WD stands for "water displacement." Yes it will stop the squeak for a bit but it will also accelerate the wear on the metals as it will ALSO displace whatever lubricant IS in there and dry it out. Use 3 in 1 oil or some other "oil" or a silicone lube. NO WD40.

    Not sure where you came up with a requirement for an outlet for an A/C condenser/ mini split. If not in sight of the breaker panel you need a 240 volt disconnect.
    Corded Window or through wall Air conditioners require an outlet on the interior wall.

      @tilltill2071 Před 9 měsíci +1

      He was referring to the NEC required "service" outlet within a certain distance of all mechanical equipment such as furnaces and AC condensers. Yes, a disconnect is required for 240 equipment, but so is a service outlet.

    Bro you’re wrong about all kinds of things! I have never had an inspector tell me half the stuff they told you. Like the bathroom receptacle wire not allowed to leave the bathroom?!? I have two circuits I run, one for the master bath receptacles and the other for all the other bathrooms (normally 3 or more different bathrooms)! Same thing goes for the lights! Normally I will give power to the bathroom lights from the neighboring bedroom! I do pretty much the same thing for the laundry room! I put the lights on with something like the garage, hallway, half bath, etc… then the receptacles by themselves on one circuit and a dedicated circuit to the washer. Also you don’t need to have the breaker panel cover on until the power release phase which normally happens after sheetrock. The box the breaker panel comes in has a temp cardboard insert you put in the panel for a rough in inspection! 🤷🏻‍♂️ a lot of what you are talking about is common knowledge! Like your 3way switch, many others and I would only have 2 wires in that box! One 14-3 for the traveler and a 14-2 either being a switch leg or power coming in! I’m kind of curious on how much wire you used of 12-2 and 14-2 and how big the house is?

    many simple things could have been avoided if you had a trained electrician do work or show you right and wrong pay a real electrician to help next time also the money spent for real electrician advice is worth it and wires installed would be neatly stapled on studs not belined as done here , messy pulls make inspectors mad so they check wiring more than if done neatly

    1 plus 1 equals 1?? Today's Code isn't there for your safety, rather a means of job security for those involved. "One of those simple little things" thought up by simple little people. Speaking of simple, why would anyone undertake such a project without checking on the requirements beforehand?? While some of your gigs were simple one error was totally overlooked. That being your method of running wire from point A to point B irrespective of the angle involved. A proper run is either horizontal or vertical!! Why should electricians of the future have to guess where you run your wire to suit yourself and/or save a dollar??
