The interest on student loans should be illegal. The government should not be profiting students.
Student loans come from banks. The government, sometimes, underwrites the loan but does not issue it.

don't forget all those big businesses that got huge PPP loans forgiven, not to mention the banks being bailed out during the great recession while so many people lost their homes and weren't bailed out. student loan forgiveness is the right thing to do

Except the PPP loans were forgiven if the business who took them used those loans to maintain their payroll and avoid laying off employees. The money helped save a lot of jobs and reduced the already overburdened unemployment benefit backlog. Not to mention that it passed with overwhelmingly bipartisan support.

It simply was a false promise lacking empowered knowing it would be blocked so they could boast 'we tried and got shutdown '

So neither of my kids will qualify because they both studied meaningful majors and are making very good money and are paying all their loans on time and will be paid off in about 10 years after graduation. So why are others now available to have their loans paid, this is a real slap in the face of those that are paying loans and will never qualify for any forgiveness!

Please keep in mind that there is no free lunch. It doesn't matter if people pay off their loans or you pay them off, you're all still paying. If that other person paid off their loans, then they didn't inject that money into the economy, which eventually trickles down to you and your place of work not getting that money in one way or another. It would have been cheaper if we had made it free instead of charging all this debt, interest and fees for this boondoggle of student loans.
Basically the same shit that is already standard offered for forgiveness but wrapping it up in a package like Biden is doing some magical thing. This has existed for decades!

What about those that had their federal student loan debt relief application approved prior, but was put on hold due to lawsuits filed challenging the program, which blocked the ability to discharge their debt at that time?

Let's not forget the 8% interest on student loans. Someone is making big money on this and that alone should be illegal. I took out $125,000 and had to pay back $250,000. Which I am done paying for. But you get the point.

Where do I send my receipts? I graduated in 1987, paid my own way. If I am going to be forced to pay for the new crop of clearly lazy students then I’m gonna ned my money back. My son graduated in 2022. He paid his way as well. He’ll need a refund as well. I am pissed that our government steals my money to give to students or can’t seem to figure life out. With this new generation this country doesn’t stand a chance.
We are TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. We literally can't afford to do anything. Stop this madness. America is doomed.

I will say that I owned a company and two of my employees had student loans and they both owed more than the original amount of the loan, one after 10 years of paying on it. I can't remember now whether I had to garnish their wages or not. Yes they didn't use it completely for education and should not have taken the loans but it was easy money and they got sold on it.

We don't have the best choices, but Biden, in my book, is many times over it's not even close.
Unfortunately, he has a couple areas where he sucks. The Israel/Palestine war to begin with. The border seems to be bad as well. Sucks he couldn't get that border bill through. He is president and is still responsible regardless of who opposed it. Renegotiate and pressure campaign. Make the GOP cave one way or the other to pass the bill. Some executive action could help, but that would only be a bandaid, and is not enough.
The economy could be better, but it's seems to be doing great regardless of how people feel about how other people are doing economically. Polls on this indicate the fake idea that people are feeling bad about their economic situation. People are doing well. Personally, I am doing better than ever. That's possibly because I am growing my career.

Student loan borrowers also pay taxes … and everyone can afford college. That’s just an excuse not to go because either the person is lazy or thinks they’re not smart enough. If you were serious about going you would of looked into options, like community college and Grants. You do not have to pay Grants back …. I went to a community college, got a certification and it only cost me $800. $50 a month payments. So stop saying “ can’t afford it” .. lame ….

Restore Bankruptcy Rights for Student Loans
Make the Universities back the loans, it's their degrees they're insuring. Let the University pay.
By allowing bankruptcy rights then no taxpayer money would have to be paid for these loans! When a debt is discharged via bankruptcy, there is no tax liability! Bankruptcy as we should all be aware, is a constitutional right!

People with student debt have ALWAYS qualified for Student Loan forgiveness. It's called "get a job and pay back what you agreed to borrow, you deadbeat". That's always been in place.

Maybe everyone would agree to student debt relief if:
A) It didn't come out of the pockets of people who chose not to get a student loan, and
B) You had your debt relief cancelled 100%, but you lose your degree.
Nobody gets everything for nothing. Why should you have a degree for free to you, but at the expense of people who never got themselves into debt?

Thank you for this information, as a Republican I wish the conservative media would report more of the details of this Biden administration plan, instead they just criticize. I have long held that the interest and especially capitalized interest on student loans should have been given a direct write off for federal income tax, since this probably hits most borrowers. If you want material and significant student debt relief do it through the tax code...
