Yugi and Atem are the only King Of Games! Both flawed, but when they come together, they are the strongest of them all. The very embodiment of Yin and Yang. Even if Atem leaving was bitter sweet, I truly believe they aren't whole without the other because of their more than brotherly bond. Yugi may be independent now, but he gained strength, courage, and the virtue of never giving up given and forever present due to Yami. Vice versa, Yugi made the Pharaoh more gentle, selfless, and taught him the value of friendship.
Exactly makes sense, back in ancient egypt your status in society is predicted on what monsters you controlled , just having a blue eyes white dragon like priest seto would make you a king in there own right , having exodia, slifer the sky dragon, obelisk the tormentor, and wing dragon of ra just one of the 4 would make you a emporer in a way , very fascinating stuff really lol
@@yanyanzhang5813 I don't think the poster talked about their dueling skills, its about their characters. even if we want to talk about dueling, the author never made that claim, and never pitch them against future duelists. The duels are plot driven, and the author only have cards at that time as material to construct each duel. This is why we don't judge or compare how good they are. only a few time we do would be when duelists are in the same timeline and actually met. like we will always regard Weevil as weaker than Yugi. dueling developed over time, and they both had extremely good (arguably inhumane, but inconsistent a very few times because of the plot) abilities to quickly comprehend and master, not just dueling, but mostly anything, especially games. even if one of them had to show up in future duel, they would've gotten comparable cards and knowledge. Still, there's absolutely no need to bring them back. their story arc was closed marvelously.
When I was a kid I use to always wonder how none of the characters realized that Yugi's voice would get deeper and he'd get taller when he turned to Atem.
Not to mention Yami has "lighting" spikes coming out of his hair . There were so many freaking signs. If they were real friends they should have been able to tell .
Atem starts the series as a total psycho, but I guess if I were trapped in an ancient Egyptian artifact for anywhere between 3000 and 5000 years, I'd lose my shit too.

notoriousbig3k Actually even season 0 establishes you have to follow the rules of the game you choose to play with the established rules, as there are severe punishments for cheating. If Yugi chooses duel monsters, he has to follow the rules of duel monsters, otherwise its cheating and he should be punished.
Favorite Yami Yugi moment......it's hard to choose. Yami Yugi is the OG definition of badass but if I had to pick I'd say when he defeated Kaiba and knocked his inflated ego down a peg or two in the Battle City Finals. Split Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon into 3 Blue Eyes and overkilled him by taking out all 3 at once.
I personally separate Atem and Yugi. As he's an Egyptian pharaoh I believe his real appearance is the way he appears in the final duel arc with his tan skin and gold adornments (so fancy 😏). They share Yugi's body but they are different people so they look similar but not the same. I also like how in GX Yugi grows up and his voice reflects that of Atem showing that Yugi may be the reincarnated or distant descendant of Atem. Atem is an incredible duelist and though many people think Yugi simply lets him duel for him but that's not remotely true. Both help each other and Yugi eventually surpasses him which is a great way to keep the series going. The Dark Side of Dimensions really reflects this as (SPOILERS): Yugi still beats Kaiba on his own (LOL) and that when the puzzle is completed Atems spirit is free from it. I also love how his spirit did come back to Yugis body one last time to end the duel against Aigami. Also that end scene Jesus Christ Kaiba can't get over losing to the pharaoh that he has to break dimensions and time to have a chance to duel Atem good ol Kaiba! xD

rob19ny Not really. What is wrong with you Yugi haters. Yugi is a great character. I like both characters equally. I like Yami for his perfectionism. But don't forget, Yugi is equally as good as Yami is. Yugi did still beat both Yami Yugi and Seto Kaiba. Plus, Yugi and Yami duel together! Yugi does a lot of the thinking in duels. They make the moves together if you don't pay attention. Even though people do say that Yami does all the moves for him, you always hear Yugi's voice when it comes to thoughts. I'm not saying Yami is worse, but Yugi is more realistic and I relate to him in a lot of ways myself.
There's a reason Yugi talked about surpassing him in their battle, and that Atem called him a Champion after he helped Yugi off his knees. The Ceremonial Battle was a rite of succession, and Atem was succeeded. Outplayed. No reliance on Destiny Draws or lucky pulls, the game was done the second Yugi sealed away the rebirth card in the box. Atem literally had all three gods at his disposal, used at least two in the duel even. Massive advantage when everyone in Battle City, Kaiba, Marik, whatever, were shitting their pants at the prospect of facing one. I can't believe people are clinging onto an Instagram blurb as some kind of proof that their precious idol's one real loss didn't count.
I love Yugi and Atem's sense of Justice and standing up for others I think it added a great deal to their character development. It's no wonder he had the love and respect of so many people minor or major characters

Yugi/Yami, there will never be anyone in any anime character (outside the franchise) that compares. He is one the best roll models I had growing up and still makes me better all the time. He's cool, calm, collected, polite, brave, smart and heroic! Lacking the negative (and often annoying) qualities most anime character possess such as rudeness, a short temper, being hotheaded and often simple-minded (not including other Yu-Gi-Oh! characters, I referring to main protagonists). Only Sonic, Optimus prime, and Yusei compare. Yugi/Atem, you rule the duel! Favorite moment, the final duel!

Also Yami Yugi was missing what Yugi had and Yugi was missing what Yami Yugi had so together they completed each other which is the story of the series really, Yami Yugi at the start was basically a monster which Yugi was scared of and Yugi was a bit like Syrus in GX a bit of a wimp and then in the final duel between them it was basically Yugi showing how much he's grown with the Pharaoh and saying that he didn't need him any more which allowed the Pharaoh to go into the after life.

Well the manga and anime in Japan is aimed primarily to young teenage boys. Which was why it was so dark and why Atem what is a vigilante type of character at the beginning. I mean @YugiohEverything on his channel even explains this.
I made it through a rewatch of the subtitled episodes and it was fantastic to see just how much he changes over time, in large part thanks to his host and partner. He could be gentle, amused, and downright terrifying (see: Weevils duel in season 4!). Despite all that, I never picked up on the difference in the bangs--and now it seems so clear :D Excellent vid!
Never knew his name translated to "Dark" Yugi. This makes me think the writer could have drawn inspiration from the psychological concept of "the shadow". I believe it was Nitzche's work. The idea being that a healthy integrating of one's shadow, or darker nature, led to a completion of one's psyche, so kinda cool that his name also means completion.
Aten is the egyptian sun god (of the first generation) also in egyptian mythology, knowing a god's real name would give you control over them to some degree
My friends all go by names of one of the Yugioh protagonists. They call me Atem because i wore the same jacket almost everyday in high school favor Spellcasters monsters and was the first one of our group to move away 😅
Yugi and Atem reminds me of Batman and Robin. Like Atem is just like Batman he always has a strategy and is always a few steps ahead of the villain in the duel. And Yugi is like Robin because he's the young and still learning. And it doesn't help that Atem is the wise mentor to Yugi like Batman is the wise mentor to Robin. Also am I'm the only one who thinks Warner Bros and DC should get Dan Green to voice Batman in a movie that isn't part of the same universe that Kevin Conroy's Batman is in? It is implied that Yugi lost to Joey after to Battle City. Because Joey then has his Red-Eyes back. Been awhile but Yugi dueled Rebecca if I remember right. Yami had no part in that. Technically Yami/Yugi also lost to Joey during that Battle City event. When Joey was mine controlled. But then ended up as a draw afterwards. Yami didn't lose to Kaiba during Duelist Kingdom. Yami would have won. But Yugi forced Yami out and stopped the attack. So Yugi is to blame there.
Actually it's implied in the manga they tied but joey proved him self worthy to get his red eyes back but only because yami didn't use the gods if he used he gods it would be straight destruction for joey but in the duel against marik controlling joey yami would have won if it wasn't for yugi holding him back wanting to come out to save joey

I believe he was named after the god Atem, the god that created the other gods. Atem is also the god of the circle of day and night, meaning the beginning and the end, which explains also why atem is considered the "help" of Ra. But that is just my opinion :) your explaination also makes sense! (And i'm sorry for my poor english)

Yugi/Yami, there will never be anyone in any anime character (outside the franchise) that compares. He is one the best roll models I had growing up and still makes me better all the time. He's cool, calm, collected, polite, brave, smart and heroic! Lacking the negative (and often annoying) qualities most anime character possess such as rudeness, a short temper, being hotheaded and often simple-minded (not including other Yu-Gi-Oh! characters, I referring to main protagonists). Only Sonic, Optimus prime, and Yusei compare. Yugi/Atem, you rule the duel! Favorite moment, the final duel!

Also Yami Yugi was missing what Yugi had and Yugi was missing what Yami Yugi had so together they completed each other which is the story of the series really, Yami Yugi at the start was basically a monster which Yugi was scared of and Yugi was a bit like Syrus in GX a bit of a wimp and then in the final duel between them it was basically Yugi showing how much he's grown with the Pharaoh and saying that he didn't need him any more which allowed the Pharaoh to go into the after life.

Well the manga and anime in Japan is aimed primarily to young teenage boys. Which was why it was so dark and why Atem what is a vigilante type of character at the beginning. I mean @YugiohEverything on his channel even explains this.

I made it through a rewatch of the subtitled episodes and it was fantastic to see just how much he changes over time, in large part thanks to his host and partner. He could be gentle, amused, and downright terrifying (see: Weevils duel in season 4!). Despite all that, I never picked up on the difference in the bangs--and now it seems so clear :D

Never knew his name translated to "Dark" Yugi. This makes me think the writer could have drawn inspiration from the psychological concept of "the shadow". I believe it was Nitzche's work. The idea being that a healthy integrating of one's shadow, or darker nature, led to a completion of one's psyche, so kinda cool that his name also means completion.

Yugi and Atem reminds me of Batman and Robin. Like Atem is just like Batman he always has a
strategy and is always a few steps ahead of the villain in the duel. And Yugi is like Robin because he's the young and still learning. Also am I'm the only one who thinks Warner Bros and DC should get Dan Green to voice Batman in a movie that isn't part of the same universe that Kevin Conroy's Batman is in? It is implied that Yugi lost to Joey after to Battle City. Because Joey then has his Red-Eyes back. Been awhile but Yugi dueled Rebecca if I remember right. Yami had no part in that. Technically Yami/Yugi also lost to Joey during that Battle City event. When Joey was mine controlled. But then ended up as a draw afterwards. Yami didn't lose to Kaiba during Duelist Kingdom. Yami would have won. But Yugi forced Yami out and stopped the attack. So Yugi is to blame there.
Actually it's implied in the manga they tied but joey proved him self worthy to get his red eyes back but only because yami didn't use the gods if he used he gods it would be straight destruction for joey but in the duel against marik controlling joey yami would have won if it wasn't for yugi holding him back wanting to come out to save joey

I believe he was named after the god Atem, the god that created the other gods. Atem is also the god of the circle of day and night, meaning the beginning and the end, which explains also why atem is considered the "help" of Ra. But that is just my opinion :) your explaination also makes sense! (And i'm sorry for my poor english)

Cool video! I love your character profiles :) Yami Yuugi's japanese name is Mou Hitori no Yuugi / Other Yuugi. I think the 'dark' yuugi version is only used in games and in the 4kids version.
I just realised that in the ceremonial duel, Yugi made sure neither he or Atem could bring back monsters from the graveyard.
Atem is also Meta backwards is that how "Dark Yugi" was able to maintain his iron grip on literally what cards provided top-tier plot armor and quite literally set the precedent for IRL deck building🤣
