  • The BCB stove turned out to be a star performer on Hexamine I tested the use of meths and fire rope meths and sand and just tipping 30ml of meths into the stove turned out the fastest way to boil 500ml of water I tested it against my Canteen Shop stove with trangia burner and the GI issue stove the GI issue stove works far better at 180 degrees than it does in the proper configuration

My basic webbing for bush walks and overnighters has three water bottles and cups canteen steel with one stove. I will drop one and replace it with my 58 Pattern waterbottle and cup... just as soon as the Crusader cup and stove I just ordered arrives. That BCB stove is far superior in boil time and much more stable. When I was in the Army (1977-86) we never had the stove under the cup, just a hexie stove. Great comparison, enjoyed the video, subbed and liked.

Hey mate, I am enjoying the testing. I have the canteen shop stove.
Also for those interested, there is another stainless steel version of the canteen stove on AliExpress called Jolmo Lander Stainless Steel Stove.
    Cheers in advance Mike

@@kisbushcraftdownunder Nice one mate, I got two when I first purchased mine. I modified them both by attaching a grease nipple to each lid and brass tubing between the two lids. And started experimenting with them to connect the two cups with lids, so I can distill water if needed. But I never did complete my testing phases to see what setup with give me the quickest amount of distilled water.

Bcb crusader set is issued to all uk forces not just army and includes cadet and reserve forces. There are two types, i think you have the mark one version. The mark 2 has a deeper stove attachment.
They also issue a firedragon flat
stove same idear so you can have a brew or scran. Only basic stuff nothing flash.
Sand does work, they used two tins, one half full with sand with petrol or diesel on top. Not a tiny amout 2nd tin goes on top this is what you cook out of or make a brew.
My relitive were in north africa too desert rats. Montys 8th army.

A Big Country Thank You in your easy to listen to videos...saved me having to buy ( and find) a metal canteen stove kit I can always drill out my own grill as your kit. Is the added sand to even out the petrol fuel vs just burning the petrol by itself?

The sand controls the rate the petrol burns or it would boil and flash methylated sprits works better than petrol when I was in Alaska I used bottles of heat yellow I think 🤔. Sold in Gas stations

It's interesting to see the different sets burning side by side, thanks. I'll stick with the BCB Mk1 with fire rope. Don't bother with the Mk2, they seem to have invented the square wheel. A jam jar lid with a hole in it makes a simple simmer ring when using meths. A 55mm hole in the bottom of the BCB will allow it to sit on top of a Trangia with about an inch of clearance. If you use a hole saw without a centre drill (not for the faint hearted) the cup comes out complete and undamaged so you still have the option of using it. All the best.

The best canteen to drink out off is the older US pattern with a rolled lip and single bail arm
