      Main problem with chinese knockoff turbos (and other chinese junk) is their quality control. You may get a relatively good turbo, or the most likely, absolute garbage turbo that won't last after just one pull on the dyno. If you can't spend the money on a real turbo, can you afford what happens to your engine if the blades breaks off and go inside your engine?

    • @Akira.Nibbai
      @Akira.Nibbai Před 6 lety +5

      @tonyrichmond9428 Před 7 lety +2

      4 percent failure rate still seems pretty high for a precision part. Says to me the problem is not with the design or materials (rate would be much higher) but with quality control.

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  Před 7 lety +3

      Tony Richmond you are probably right. Dollars vs problems I'm gonna still say the knock offs "ebay turbos" win and keep using them.

    • @tonyrichmond9428
      @tonyrichmond9428 Před 7 lety +2

      And therein lies the beauty of what we do. Guys like me and you who can turn a wrench and afford a little down time can save a ton of money taking a chance on parts. Guys who need somebody else to install parts might be better off doing the job once with a reasonable guarantee that they won't have to do it again. I've got a half-dozen people trying to spend 9k of my money to build an EJ255 because "you can't reuse that, and it has to be name-brand aftermarket super-race parts." I'll be done in less than $1500 including machine work. Why? Because I'm not building super-race; I evaluated my needs, my budget, and most importantly...my skills. Seems like you do the same. Wrench on, and like ETG says: STAY DIRTY.

      TPP is a Fascist System they don't need re balanced. Every part of them is factory balanced or they would explode on the first time hitting boost. Turbos spin over 50,000 rpm

    China has been at this for a while now and I believe they're in the groove as far as reliability, on turbos used as prescribed. I would however disassemble and inspect one before putting it in service. It's probably also a good idea not to buy the cheapest you can find as that affects quality also. It's not a weak spot when it fails under loads well in excess of its design. It looks like it was spun beyond its rpm limits and the turbine wheel started to come apart. A compressor end that could move a bit more air on that same unit might have held up a lot better and having a water cooled center section wouldn't hurt. It didn't have a catastrophic failure under those conditions so I'd say it was pretty well made, especially for $165.

  • @jdoud85
    @jdoud85 Před rokem

    I made 60psi. It blew up within 5 seconds. I wasn’t educated on turbos to know you shouldn’t try that. It caused a rod to toss a bearing. Costing my thousands and a lot of my own time rebuild my boxer motor. But it runs. Stick to 22psi unless dragging

    MrPhukyew I read this whole comments related to this Vid post. Very interesting. I see some turbo's with the balance indication on the nuts. and some not. I saw vid's that guys used some turbos with the compressor wheels flow away because the nut loose while driving. I am not sure there is only one Manifacture or maybe you are using the same link to order your turbo's. I like your test. I like actual test real life proofs. I like to geth one or two links of the turbo's you order.i need A very quick spool turbo for a LS1 stock. The turbo must spool quick less lag.low Rpm spool.

      @MrPhukyew  Před 7 lety +16

      hxgs you realize "eBay turbos" do not exist? that's why I emphasize the stupidity of that statement with " ". the turbos sold on eBay range in brand name and in price. eBay however does not make parts. eBay is not a brand. these turbos are all made by 2 main manufacturers in China and sold around the world to all different distributors. CX racing, JDM sport, emusa, and many more. everybody puts a different name on them and sells them for a profit. I've been installing these on customer cars since 2011 and had great luck with low or high boost setups. many of my 30 psi builds are daily driven without issue for years on end. my car is a good example of that. I set a record with the turbo in this video. most powerful untuned 4 cyl ever. when you start setting records you can start giving me advice but until then you can go learn a lil more about turbos.

    • @hxgz
      @hxgz Před 7 lety

      MrPhukyew when an ebay turbo blows and ruins your build you can give me advice on it. regardless of branding on turbos sold on ebay, they don't hold up compared to garrett or borgwarner. i've had low end and high end, and i know what i will always pick when it comes to it next time

      I have another one of these cheap turbos that I'm going to be doing a video about soon, it was on my turbo 4.8 l Chevy truck and I replaced that engine with a 6.0 and I kept the same turbo which was definitely over speeding it at this point because this turbo was barely big enough for the 4.8 to begin with. This turbo went an entire 60,000 miles through two different owners and got two blades chipped along the way and still made great power and spooled immediately. Didn't even burn oil. Now I'm contemplating using it on a third engine even though it has chipped blades and more shaft play than a 40-year-old hooker. I'm slow at making videos because I have such a busy shop but stay tuned.

      @MrPhukyew  Před 7 lety

      James Holbrook I don't know I wasn't on a dyno. At 30psi it made 510whp and 486 ft lbs on the dyno but I left it at 30 psi the whole time I was there

      OM&M actually it's a "t70" it would be a little closer to a gt30 or gt32 in size comparison

    • @MrPhukyew
      @MrPhukyew  Před 5 lety

      Do you even English bro? Has nothing to do with weld at all. The Chinese turbo held 30+ psi for years and died when I tried 40psi. You got any cars that daily at 30+psi? Go fuck yourself

    Are you serious? This has nothing to do with the turbo, 40 PSI isn't impossible, it's just stupid.

      Real Garrett, PTE and other turbos boost 40+ psi on a normal basis. But you're right, 40 psi (or any psi) on a ebay turbo is stupid.
