Heck yeah!
Why don't you use Total War battle scenes any more
They added some really good visual imagination and made the entire experience more wholesome
My favorite game make and my favorite channel ❤️
And now you should make some cooperation with ThrashingMadPL and make analog video on Eastern European early feudalism (the one between year 906 when Moravia has fallen and 1502 when paesants were turned into moder slaves by Statute of Piotrkow and analog laws in Russia).
ThrashingMadPL makes good videos on the topic, while you can reach english speaking audience.
Thanks for explaining how to change it to English, I'm Spanish but I personally prefer the voice in English
We're back! maybe we should make a tradition out of sponsoring K&G for all our CK3 releases. What do you think?

The Venetian election process makes both the Roman and Athenian systems look juvenile.
Indeed, the athenians drew lots to chose a good portion of their representatives as to avoid the evils of populism, the romans required 10 years of military experience to even enter into politics and the venetians "let's find a random boy and draw lots again and again and again until we get a good name" lol
Bit weird though that they in this complicated system just grabbed the first boy they'll find at the town square to facilitate the voting. One would expect they had a system for boy-chosing as well...
@@victorcapel2755 Right, what if the boy was some kind of plant. Seems a little overboard honesty.
@@OhyesSofresh But once again, it worked better than arguably any other system for a thousand years.
You could say they know the mistakes of both and try to avoid them.
The Venetian Election system was the most confusing thing I have seen since the Krebs Cycle
Can't argue with the results though.
@@stephenkenney8290 right
@@stephenkenney8290 how do you think they even came up with that system

*Paradox:* We've made an immersive Grand Strategy game where you guide your Noble House to greatness through the ages.
*Players:* Oh sweet, an incest simulator.
You say that as if those two are mutually exclusive.
Besides, incest can be a legitimate strategy in CK3. If you go with the noble bloodlines dynasty perk, and you marry within your own family, you actually get a double buff to inheriting good traits.
@@guccifer764 CK3 Players: Minmaxing Incest

CK3: Turning Incest into Wincest
In Aragon (Spain) there was a curious tradition: whenever a new king (or queen) was crowned, the nobles would give the crown after reciting this:
“Nos, que somos y valemos tanto como vos, pero juntos más que vos, os hacemos Principal, Rey y Señor entre los iguales, con tal que guardéis nuestros fueros y libertades; y si no, no”
"We, which are and worth as much as thee, but together more than thee, make thee our Leader, King and Sire amongst equals, as long as you guard our feudal laws and liberties; and otherwise not."
PDX knows where it's players go for historical content
Could you guys please do more stuff like this? I find government and societal structures to be an extremely interesting topic.
Just finished watching. Excellent video. Impatiently waiting on the next one
for me it is usually boring...but Kings and Generals makes it in such a way...that I just love it.
And also does anyone have book recommendations on this stuff??!
Highly agree!
Like Mitchell, I would also be very appreciative of book suggestions on the topic, if someone knowledgable happens to read this thread. I read the Time Travellers Guide to Medieval England recently, a fantastic book for an eyes-on-the-ground perspective on various aspects of medieval English society, which may also be a good read for people in this thread :)
@@andershusmo5235 I love Mortimer's books! If you've not already, have a look at Dan Jones too :)
Glad you did a sweep of a few different kingdoms from different regions, too often people will talk about "the middle ages" as if it was one big thing
Edit: also, THANK YOU! I finally kind of understand how the HRE worked!
"Kind of" being the key word for most of us.

Pretty hyped for Crusader Kings III becoming more RPG
So many ideas running through my head about it, could be fun!!!
i haven't played that much yet but it seems pretty rpg as it is. Imo the rpg element should be a flavor not the main dish in Crusader kings
@@maxion5109 The whole point of the CK series is that it’s an RPG.
@@maxion5109 CK3 is not really a strategy game ala Total war or something. it is not a map painter like EU4, a social simulation like Victoria or a war game like HOI, it's a distinct RPG
CK is less what happens you give total way in-depth characters and more what happens when you put the sims on a map
That's its intention, that's its niche and it works well
@@BasicLib so a medieval Sims then. I get it. I have played about 260h Ck2 and there is also the grand strategy aspect. Diplomacy, economy and war. Of course those aspects are influenced by characters as well but it in ck2 it felt like i just needed to have a viable heir and the rest is more traditional strategy map painting, which i liked. total war is my favorite. Maybe ck3 more heavely Rpg then.
But i could be that i even tried to play ck2 in a total war way and overlooked the rpg to the detriment of my campaigns. Mainly the court and dynasty aspect, which i found random and complicated
The way you guys cover the minutae of medieval life is a pleasure to behold.
Okay, I definitely need to find some good literature on the history of Venice's state administration. I had no idea about any of those things, that is incredibly interesting.
I just found it really funny that the imperial diet really forced the participants to go on a diet if they failed to reach any consensus lol
a diet of worms
Is there any chance to talk more about the likes of Christian Spain, Scandinavia or the many states in Eastern Europe? I always feel like they are ignored in these discussions about administration in the middle ages.
I wonder what the equivalent comment to this one would the new Eastern Courts video's comment section have.
This is a unique video, however England is missing a crucially significant section: the revolutionary legal reforms of Henry II and the expansion on the royal power at the expense of the nobility, making England one of the most centralized kingdoms in Christendom. The rebellion of the barons against King John had much less to do with the efforts of William the Conqueror and almost everything to do with John’s unpopularity, failure abroad, and exponential expansion of the incredibly well-oiled administration forged by Henry II.
“… the later resentment of the Angevin system implicit in Magna Carta might have been fostered by Henry II’s mastery of men and government. Certainly many of the barons at Runnymede in 1215 saw John’s excesses as expansions of those of his father.”
Thomas K. Keefe, Henry II, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, volume 26
Henry II is one of the most over-looked monarchs in Western European history, his usage of things such as Circuit Judges and the centralisation of English law is genuinely genius way of managing his vassals whom had basically become regional kings under the lax rule of King Stephen and the general chaos of the Anarchy.
I'm glad to read a comment from someone who knows about the administrative genius of Henry II.
@@greatalexander3820 One of the greatest monarchs in history to be sure, and perhaps even the greatest “king” all things considered, I think. How many monarchs can claim, without hyperbole, to have founded a legal system which daily and directly affects 1/3 of the modern world? Add to that political and administrative genius, which is a rare coupling, and an alluring personality and you’ve got a truly great king, one who’s reforms certainly deserved a mention in this video.
Yeah i was so looking forward to them covering the Baron Parliament of De Rochefort this is very disapointing
@@dirckthedork-knight1201 I think you mean Simon de Montfort's parliament of 1265
@@CommonSwindler YES!! that one!! I just got its name wrong thanks for correcting me
That was a fantastic video!
I knew most of the things in broadscale theory, but it was interesting to see the details and how the courts differed from one another.
You have no business making videos of such insane quality. Wishing this channel the best of success
Found this channel day before yesterday & been binging on docs since 😂 🔥 stuck in the house today (bad ice storm overnight) and have the notifications on, this should be an interesting one 😎 I’m in the middle of watching the other Rome/Caesar docs anyways.
I just wanted to show love & give y’all your 💐
I would happily watch a whole series on this. Best video I’ve watched in a long time!
Wonderful video!! The detailed information, graphics, narration. All spot on!
As I am the King of England, I can attest that this is accurate.
Only for 6 months but a little better then your bother John.
I'm sorry to be the one updating you sir, but your distant ancestor Elizabeth has taken over your throne for almost a century now
Your father was much, much better.
@@CommonSwindler So much so that all his sons rebelled against him!
@@davyroger3773 His sons were rather like the children of a CEO or titan of industry who builds a company , or in Henry's case an empire, from the ground up. They are very aware of what they are "entitled" to but less aware of what ruling actually is. Richard was more worthy of his father than his brothers, but all in all none of the Angevin brothers were anything like as remarkably able as Henry II.
Also, to clarify... his "legitimate" sons rebelled at one time or another. That rather proves my point. His eldest child Geoffrey, who had no hope of inheriting anything other than his father's trust, was loyal to the end.
Will the Chinese and Muslim royal courts be part of the next video? I hope that will be the case because I would love to see how their courts operated!
I did see the Muslim court but not the Chinese I want to play as han China badly
@@shashwatbhattacharya9629 there is a mod called Asia expansion that lets you do that
@@gnanaganesh5937 China was much more historically centralised and powerful
@@trevorholland1500 the mod Chinese have a lot of buffs making them a bit unbalanced in my opinion
@@gnanaganesh5937 There was no point to do war with India, it was so far away (Himalayas) that it didn't make sense.
Kerala seems to be doing just fine. China's conflicts with neighbors primarily stem from US influence, not because it is Communist (see Laos and Vietnam).
China doesn't do preservation, that's really an obsession from Ming-era Han-centric conservatism as a response to foreigner rule. On the contrary, Chinese culture has always morphed and changed over the dynasties. Materials get better. It would be stupid to stick to wooden buildings with paper windows when concrete is just that much better.
This is my favourite video in a long time, they're always good but this one was exceptional!
I love this channel!! Growing up playing dnd and seeing the wotc drawings of medieval weapons and armor in the core rulebooks of 3rd edition; it drew me to want to learn more about medieval society.
You know.. this channel has evolved exponentially from the past few years. Their production value is such high quality and always providing such entertaining and informative content. I feel like Kings and Generals can even go up a notch by even producing short stories (not CZcams Shorts) of historical events. The level of effort and detail they put up with exceeds our expectations along with clips of action in animation.
This is great content. Seeing a well-produced documentary essentially using one of my favorite games for the map and art is like a dream come true lol. Reminds me of the old days of the History channel where they would use Rome: Total War to simulate battles
This is an excellent video. Well done Kings & Generals. 🙌
This was an awesome condensing of so much information. Well done. It must be a nightmare cutting your drafts down to size.
This is one of my favourite videos yet.
awesome, I was waiting for this since many years
First venetians be like:
"Sir I've added another election in the code of law, as you asked"
"more"
"Alright sir"
"More!"
"ok sir"
"MORE"
"Sir, I think we have enough"
"MOOOREE"
Wow, I love your channel and i absolutely love Ck3. Great collab.
Quality work as always
Great video! I hope you launch another one about the Spanish courts!
Iberian history getting neglected again, it is a bit disappointing tbh, because of the title I thought they would at least talk about Leon's "parliament".

I checked your history channel out, you have a lot of potential to blow up. Keep working hard with the quality content!
Thanks for the video 👍🏻

If Crusader Kings III taught me anything, it's that succession inevitably leads to civil war.
That's why I purge my enemies every decade like Saddam husain
@@tla2119 how do you purge your sons?

Never had a single problem with vassals or civil wars as long as i keep my personal domains small and the vassals happy by constantly giving them land while they provide me soldiers for further conquests where i'll give them more land. I don't care whom rules what as long as they do so under me and it just works lol

Extremely interesting subject
Hey Kings and Generals! Excellent video as usual. My request for a future video would be a companion to this: how local governance worked among western non-aristocratic peoples! Ie.: how might the socio-cultural and political governance systems worked among peasants beyond the often studied feudal relationship? We’re there other political mechanisms among the people ie.: local councils, assemblies, or elders etc.? Cheers!
my like and comment. Would love more videos like these on how governance worked
Absolute banger
If the Western courts were already this complicated affairs, can't imagine the Polish court after the extinction of the Jagellonids...
Oh no, no no no, we are sooooo not going there.
My knowledge of polish history ain’t great despite being of half polish descent. How bad are we talking?
@@connorgolden4 Country shattering bad :)
@@connorgolden4 Put it this way, the Polish really were a great power and if certain things were changed the masters of Eastern Europe could have been the Poles and not the Russians but after the end of the Jagiellonian dynasty they slowly became more and more economically backward and politically divided until they were literally wiped off the map and wouldn’t regain independence for for over 100 years
Αnother ,interesting subject presented with unique way ! S mall correction Venice was for 300 years Byzantine territory the only remaining in the Italian North ,when rest of north fall to Germanic Lombards, then became independent, powerful, and even exchange rolle with Byzantine s in the east even with ,not very healthy way ,last Venician lost territory s of Greece ,at 1797 ,and occasionally with the big assistance from Hellenic population claime from Ottomans land in Greek mainland, even retook for 30 years 1685 ,1715 whole Peloponnese from Ottomans with huge support from locals
why you put coma after space? it's weird
