Wishing you (well, everyone) a Happy New Year Amanda. End screen answer: My favourite purchase of 2020... my VStrom 650, which I bought just a few weeks before the first UK lockdown....DOH! Still, managed to rack (or is that wrack) up 2,500 miles of day trips though, so....
My Nelson Rigg tank bag was my favorite purchase this year. That bag and I bonded quite a bit over 2 months & 12k miles. Not waterproof, but held up crazy good during hurricane season in the south... Me and the gear on me didn't hold up so well, but the bag did! I was pouring water out of my boots, but the bag shockingly was only slightly damp on the bottom.
👏👏 Is it amazing how much we can bond to our gear when you're on a trip for that long? It's like every small thing becomes an important part of your home.
What a roller coaster of a year it's been. My wife bought a new (to her) 2015 CB500X, and we went with the Givi V35 side cases and the B37 we'd previously had on her Ninja 300. We don't do enough off-road and heavy adventure riding, so the lockable luggage makes more sense for us. I splurged on a Givi V56 top case for my Versys 1000. For rain gear, I just have a set of frogg toggs that I wear over my regular gear, but I think I'd invest in higher quality GORE-TEX if I lived somewhere that it rained more often. In the winter, I'll wear the frogg toggs over my "waterproof" Bilt pants and Joe Rocket Atomic jacket. With two layers of waterproof, I'll stay generally dry. Trusting a single layer never seems to work out, especially in longer storms.
Ahhh thanks so much for the shoutout and video link!!!!! I am so stoked that you liked the tent, I was pretty sure you would but I was a bit nervous 😬 lol The storage is insane!!! I agree with you my favorite piece of gear! Thanks again and keep the adventures and inspiration coming and happy New Years
Hope you feel better Amanda. I do hope my fireplace works !!! My favourite piece of gear is my new bike this year. My 2009 Super Sherpa died so I picked up a 2019 XT250. OMG what a difference fuel injection makes in my quality of life on 2 wheels !!!! My second favourite piece of gear will be the Kuryakin XS Cube seat bag that I bought for this bike. The bike didn’t come with a rear rack so I decided to go with the flow with a seat bag instead. Man I now have POCKETS !!! Organization is such a novel idea after running a 37 litre plastic top box for a couple of decades! I do miss the lockable part but I never really ride with much valuables anyway. My third favourite piece of gear this year will be my Revit Horizon 2 jacket. I bought the GTX pants same as yours last year and liked the quality but not the venting - nothing gets in through the liner and I hated fumbling with it in public washrooms so I decided to try the Horizon 2 instead. I bought it end of season so haven’t really tried it in the rain yet but the reviews are very positive so I’m hoping it will be fine. The European cut does feel quite different from my old First Gear jacket - which coincidentally is also sand in colour - although mine never failed me even in miserable pouring rain. The Revit jacket fits much more snug but I actually don’t mind it. I feel securely wrapped lol ... like it and all the armour will stay put if I ever touch the pavement with any part of me other than the bottom of my boots. Looking forward to your next adventure !!!!
Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year! End screen... my 2019 R1250RT! My old 1983 R80RT is still stored in my shed. It’s been there 20+ years. I honored my wife’s request to stop riding until our kids grew up. My youngest is now 18 and I got the ok to get a new bike! My old bike is destined to be converted to a cafe racer or a bobber. But that is down the road a bit.
Love watching your videos. Living the dream. Between yourself and Tim i cant get enough of your well documented trips. Maybe one day along with one of my trips we will have the chance to meet. Thank You. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Young Lady you are a professional. Videos are always informative, interesting and funny in your unique way. I value those gifts. Looking forward to spectacular new year. Cheers and Happy Trails.......👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
Amanda, I just bought a set a Wolfman Rocky Mountain bags for my Tiger 800. Tried to get them after Christmas but they were all sold out. Cannot wait to get them installed for my planned expeditions in a couple of monts.
@@AstheMagpieFlies here in AZ I have only ridden in the rain a few times since I have had it. The rain didn’t last too long so not sure. It does seem to repel water a little bit
Hi Amanda, thank you for the video. I put a side rack with the messenger bag and a rear luggage rack that I mounted my tank bag from 1980 onto (yeah I still had it). But the favorite is an aftermarket Puig wind screen for the colder months. This is on my Indian FTR. Thanks Mark
Hugs! Feel better soon Amanda! My favorite gear from 2020 - 1. Short tent poles for my REI tent 2. Sony a6600 3. KTM 790 Adventure R (not really gear but it's amazing!)
My favorite purchase this year was the Cool Covers 3D mesh seat cover. Really nice in hot weather reducing heat blisters and evening out the pressure. Rode 2500 miles in 6 days this past August with no sore spots, a first for me. I think there's another company selling similar covers called Air Flow? Cool Covers is based in the UK.
Enjoyed your review and comments about your gear. Definitely, the fire in the background was a nice touch. Answer: can’t decide between 2 favorite gear purchases. Have to be my Rev’It Sand 3 pants & the Alps Mountaineering Mystique 1.5 tent. Hope you get to feeling better soon, Amanda.
I put some adhesive Velcro strips on my tank where I can clip my gloves on. I saw this in another video, and it was a very good tip. Perfect for toll stations. Love your vids! Greetings from Germany!
I discovered your videos when you we're filming with Tim from 40 times around and I Have Become a fan as I really enjoy your commentary and format, BTW my favorite "gear" I bought this year was a 2002 tiger 955i which I am outfitting for fun rides this year. Yes it's an older bike but it's still new to me LOL and was very well taken care of by the previous owner.
This year I had a riding buddy pass from heart failure. I am sure he watched your videos, took notes and went and got everything you use. I purchased his gear in one big bundle (without really knowing what I was getting). The only thing it was without is the big agness tent which I’m going to buy later. Favorite but saddest purchase
Good video, as always. I would say my favorite add on for 2020, was my Wolfman Expedition bags! (like yours) But second to those, is my Seat Concepts foam/seat cover that I got. With the stock seat, I felt like I was always sliding forward into the low spot, and I like to vary my seating position as I ride, the Seat Concepts foam gives the seat a flatter profile, to eliminate my sliding. I love it. Oh, and my SW-Motech centerstand, which I use all the time.
YA!!! Right?! What a heck of an upgrade! I hope you love yours as much as I love mine! Also hurray for seat concepts! I always am confused why centerstands don't just come stock on all bikes, they're so dang handy.
I was blessed with a ton of new stuff in 2020 but one of my faves are the Hippo-Hands!!! Way expands my riding season & were daily inexpensive. So great. Now I’m looking at a new tent... thanks a lot🙄. 😊😊😊 peace, merry Christmas, & a safe/prosperous new year!!! Love you Amanda!
Heated sox and Heated Gloves, both battery operated. These are game changer items for a dude with poor circulation which makes my feet and fingers super cold. Nothing like not worrying about freezing digits to improve ones rides.
Favorite gear in 2020: quick release pannels for my soft luggage racks and a heated jack. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hooe you are feeling better soon.
DUDE it's insane! this packs down to the same size as the ONE PERSON tent from Iron Horse Gear that I gave my brother. and those tents are designed to fit in saddle bags lol
I invested in several high quality Adventure suits and proper shoes. This was a good call. Feel much safer and seasonally prepared. I also have the Wolfman bag referred from your channel and they have delivered nicely on my dual sport.
My Sierra Design tent has a mesh tray above head. Maybe have to buy a new one next year, as my rainfly tore and I had to mend it with duck tape. Plus my poles are regular length sections. My favorite new piece of gear, Shoei Modular.
Another great video Amanda and cats are always welcome. Really appreciate your channel and how you show the road, gear, friends and more. Been a fan for a long time and you almost have me convinced to try motorcycle camping. Stay warm, healthy and feel better.
That’s a tough question because I spent a lot of money this year!! 🤣 I guess my favorite purchase was a 2020 Harley Low Rider S, that has to be my largest and best purchase in 2020. 😎👊🏼 Merry Christmas!!
Thanks for this video, Amanda! I am in the market for some new camping gear this year. I'll consider the tent you recommended, and the Wolfman luggage looks awesome too.
I got the Snowdeer rechargeable heated motorcycle gloves. They keep my hand nice and work this time of year and I didn’t have to buy heated grips for all three bikes!!!!
YA! Heated gear is always a great upgrade! Maybe you can get a pair of hippo hands to pair with them (which can be moved from bike to bike ;P) They'll make little hand ovens!
Amanda, Thank you for getting the calendar out to us so quickly. I had time to wrap it and the wife loves it. I'm leaving each month's art as a surprise. As for favorite bit of kit for the year it is hard because I really started adventure riding this year but I think the Touratech Extreme Waterproof Duffel Bag is probably way up there. I also love the Klim Dakar jacket for warmer riding, I only wish I had sized up on it but it still works. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and you get to feeling better for New Year. Thank you for all you do. Nathan
Hope you feel better! Best gear I bought this year was upgrading my Montana 650 to the Montana 700. Much larger screen and super quick. I also bought a Garmin InReach Mini that gives me peace of mind. Maybe not considered gear but bought a 2018 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports (sold my Kawasaki Versys and Honda CRF250L).
Fireside chats by Amanda. Fantastic. I keep looking at the tank bag and thinking that I could really use that and get rid of the stupid shower cap tank bag I'm using now. Super annoying when you get the highway speeds and it starts to pull up.
haha I like it XD I have never liked those darn "waterproof covers" I either loose them, or water slides down the tank and still soaks through the bottom of the fabric touching the tank.
My favourite piece of kit I bought was some Nelson-Rigg panniers in yellow. Love them! I have used them a few times on all day long gravel back country rides. Revzilla got them to me in NZ in four days. Unbelievable! Unfortunately NR don’t ship to NZ. Merry Xmas Amanda and get better soon. Hopefully you don’t have the big C!
Awesome! Quality bags relieves a lot of stress on trips! (or at least it does for me haha) That's freaking awesome shipping time too! Merry Christmas Rick! (was tested for the big C that one is negative thankfully)
I am going to say this hear because I believe you will understand what I mean.Your soul is so beautiful. I want to thank you for sharing your adventurers with us.I am looking forward to what 2021 offers you.
This year while I was laid off I decked my tenere up with crashbars, skidplate, headlight protection, sena 10s. My favorite is my green chilie adventure gear luggage rack and fuel bottle holders
My favorite piece of gear I bought this year had to be the Giant Loop Gas Bag. I have a 3 gallon one that I strap to my XR650L with Rocketstraps. So much better than the gas can I used to carry.
Glad you're enjoying it!! I find it a little bit tricky to pour personally lol I like my MSR bottles that tuck nicely in my tractor manual tubes on the inside of my luggage racks. Nice and out of the way until I need them!
I finally bought some mesh pants this past year. And got some good use out of my new Mountainsmith tent!- This isn't gear, but I received my As the Magpie Flies calendar on Christmas Eve! Thanks Amanda! Hope you're feeling better soon.
@@AstheMagpieFlies I have a poorly filmed review with before and after shots on my channel. I wish I had this on my 600 mile round trip to SoCal and the Mojave last month. On my test ride i got up to 73 mph and didn’t realize until I looked at the video later..,.that smooth
Hope that you feel better soon. I bought some new rain gear that I hope will last at least 2 riding seasons, although I have not tried them out just yet. I hope that you had a Merry Christmas and that you will have a Happy New Year!
@@AstheMagpieFlies The Arai was a 5-year old, 3/4 CT-Z, which I loved. I wanted to return to a modular and like Shoe's quality (although it's a bit heavier and less well vented).
Eleven beautiful episodes indeed! Guess the reference/endorsement to that to the wind resistant rain gear got left on the editing room floor..... And hourly shots of a really good bourbon while starring into the fire might help. Best new gear? The rack I made to hold the coffee pot over the backpacker stove that gits a bit "tippy". Happy New Year!
Hi Amanda, Firstly end screen answer ---- favourite thing this year was my 2020 Honda Africa Twin. :-) So I've created a new CZcams account, my last comment to you (which you replied to) was probably from UrbexbyAir. BUT..... the reason I am commenting today is because I've started the new channel for a reason, and that is to finally get out and do "the thing" as you so nicely put it... I've been planning for sooooo long to see more of the world, but after a number of disasters in my life in 2019/20 I've decided it's time (as soon as COVID is under control at least). I'm gonna do a shout-out to you on one of my video's very soon.. I've only got two MotoVlog'ish video's up so far (the rest are so old it's not funny but they bring people to my channel). More videos will go up weekly at the very least. So come March 2020 I'm going to be on the road in Australia for 5 weeks to get out there, see and do things, and depending on COVID border restrictions it may be multi-state, or it may just be NSW.. but either way, 5 weeks on the road, on my Africa Twin...and I thought you'd like that.. because I take some of my inspiration from watching you get out there on your CB500X (that was the bike I had which I lost in the 2019 bushfires over here). Anyway, this turned in to a novel... LOL. Feel free to follow me, or not ;-)
It difficult to select just one upgrade so here are my top 3. 1. Back rest. How did I ride without it??? 2. Cardo Freecom 4 with JBL speakers. 3. Nelson-Rigg magnetic tank bag.
I hope you get to feeling better 😔Some REALLY nice gear this year (I have those SWM racks, I love them too!), great video, my friend, I hope your Christmas has been/is a great one! End screen--I didn't really spend much on gear or bike stuff this year because I wasn't out doing anything but local riding, I did finally break down and buy a guitar and amp a month ago to start learning at 47, LOL 😊✌🎅
My major purchase was my bike, a 2019 Suzuki V-Strom 650. I'm currently working on gathering everything together to head out across the country for an extended trip... when things start opening up again.
Ha ha she said she would link the 11 beautiful videos of the "Flight of the Magpie" if you havent seen them or don't know what she is talking about??? (yes that is paraphrased lol) Thats funny I am sure that everyone on CZcams has seen them by now. I mean who would want to miss anything that the most influential, most loved ADV vlogging gal EVER ..... AMANDA ZITO!!! I am sure I am right and that all have watched her informative and entertaining educational and perfectly edited videos..... right?? My favorite new gear this year is my Cardo in helmet communications system Wow how nice it is to be able to listen to my music, map directions, and take phone calls! If I had some fellow riders to ride with, the intercom would work just as well too.
I purchased an Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1 tent, and I ordered a camera and a chest rig, so I can start taking videos of my rides. And I also bought more cheese this year, I don’t know what that has to do with anything. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you! Love your videos as always. I am looking forward to seeing what you do in 2021! Me, I could not pass up another old BMW Airhead!
Awesome Amanda, Hope you feel better soon? That tent is awesome do you think it is roomy enough for 2 people moto camping? We use a 3p tent at the moment it just doesn't pack that small. Nice to know you used the Samsung tablet for editing I am looking at a tablet upgrade for this when on the road also! Any app recommendations? My favorite piece of tech this year is the Mavic air 2 drone i got still early days but i like its size and its great for following the bike to get some neat shots!
I think that really depends on the comfort and preferences of those two people. It would def fit two sleeping pads but nothing else, but that's what the vestibules are for (extra gear). For me personally if that other person was my partner, yes. If it was my best friend, yes. If it was just a riding buddy. No. lol It does have two doors sooo you don't have to crawl over each other to get out which is nice. Kinemaster is what I used to edit. And I guess any app that will let you transfer your footage from your camera to the tablet. Sony has an Imaging Edge App that I use as a monitor, remote control and also lets me transfer photos and footage from my camera to my phone/tablet etc.
Merry Christmas Amanda and best wishes for 2021! Can you please share which app you use on your tablet to edit the videos? Thank you. You're amazing and doing great, so keep spreading your inspiration and motivation, I can't wait for more to come in 2021. Stay Safe and ride safely too!
Im curious if what, if any, issues you have editing videos on the tablet. My laptop cant handle editing and my pc just barely. Is it good enough where you can edit, play, and render smoothly?
Hey Magpie - you one crazy women in really good way, i have followed you for some time now. And i love your adventure and your personality, keep it up. Yours sincerely The Danish Viking.
Ok the elephant in motorcycle options that is womens gear is really bad. Pink or only black for a majority of items is really frustrating. Buying for the wife is hard as she prefers NOT PINK. Great video! Favorite thing I bought would be the CRF250L, but gear wise would have to be the mavic mini or insta360 one r. Hope you feel better!

Nathan
I'm so glad! Thank YOU for the support! I really appreciate!
Waterproof gear is always a fantastic upgrade!
Thanks Jeffrey! I appreciate that!
Ohhh shiny new GPS is always exciting!
Congrats on the new bike!! :D
Fireside chats by Amanda. Fantastic. I keep looking at the tank bag and thinking that I could really use that and get rid of the stupid shower cap tank bag I'm using now. Super annoying when you get the highway speeds and it starts to pull up.
haha I like it XD
I have never liked those darn "waterproof covers" I either loose them, or water slides down the tank and still soaks through the bottom of the fabric touching the tank.
(or at least it does for me haha)
That's freaking awesome shipping time too!
Merry Christmas Rick!
(was tested for the big C that one is negative thankfully)
I am going to say this hear because I believe you will understand what I mean.Your soul is so beautiful.
I want to thank you for sharing your adventurers with us.I am looking forward to what 2021 offers you.
Awe! Thank you so much I really appreciate that!
@@AstheMagpieFlies I got a pour spout with mine. Makes it a lot easier.
A little late but Merry Christmas and all that. Looking forward to the next adventure. Hope next year is better and the plague goes away. Take care
Merry Christmas!
Take Care Stephen!
merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family
Merry Christmas!
I finally bought some mesh pants this past year. And got some good use out of my new Mountainsmith tent!- This isn't gear, but I received my As the Magpie Flies calendar on Christmas Eve! Thanks Amanda! Hope you're feeling better soon.
YAY! So many exciting things!
Also so stoked to hear the calendar made it just in time to be a Christmas surprise :D
As the Magpie Flies, Sorry to hear you don’t feel well. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Fairly new Subscriber by way of Shadetree Surgeon.
Sorry you're not feeling well, though you look well-rested and in good spirits. We need to see more cats! LOL
Thanks Scott, lol glad Iook well rested because I'm def not. lol
Ok, the verdict is in...the Madstad windscreen I put on my 790 R is fantastic. Also the no buffeting at high speed. I should have done it months ago.
Oh man getting rid of the buffering on the highway is like a dream!
Thanks!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your new riding gear!
Went back to a Shoei modular from an Arai. Great cats! Feel better and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Do you think the Shoei is better than your Arai?
@@AstheMagpieFlies The Arai was a 5-year old, 3/4 CT-Z, which I loved. I wanted to return to a modular and like Shoe's quality (although it's a bit heavier and less well vented).
Eleven beautiful episodes indeed! Guess the reference/endorsement to that to the wind resistant rain gear got left on the editing room floor..... And hourly shots of a really good bourbon while starring into the fire might help. Best new gear? The rack I made to hold the coffee pot over the backpacker stove that gits a bit "tippy". Happy New Year!
AW Thank you for the high praise Richard! I appreciate it :3
Being sick means no bourbon my friend.
Happy New Year
Great looking gear, u need it and deserve it, thanks for sharing.
!! Thank you Terry, I really appreciate that!
Hope you feel better soon Amanda, Dec isn't the best month for a motorcycle personality. Merry Christmas from Northern Ontario Canada.
Thank you Shawn!
Merry Christmas!
Sending healing love from the Uk 🇬🇧 Hope you feel better soon 💗 Thank you for sharing your awesome favs. The tent looks amazing 👌
Thank you Jane!
Hi Amanda,
Firstly end screen answer ---- favourite thing this year was my 2020 Honda Africa Twin. :-)
So I've created a new CZcams account, my last comment to you (which you replied to) was probably from UrbexbyAir.
BUT..... the reason I am commenting today is because I've started the new channel for a reason, and that is to finally get out and do "the thing" as you so nicely put it...
Back support is freaking awesome for real.
Excellent!
merry christmas happy new year
ride safe stay safe 🎄🎄🎄
Happy holidays Toby!
Great info as always! Thank you.
Thank you for watching it!
Merry Christmas Amanda
Happy holidays!
new sub here. love your adventures!
Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎄🎄.
Best gear = Oxford Aqua T30 roll bag 🙂
Merry Christmas!
Heckin ya new Roll Bag!
Thank you friend!
Merry Christmas!
The tent pole bag for the tripod is a good idea. I use a kids camp chair bag to carry my tripod
Right? I thought it was a bit better than the original bag which screamed SONY MANFROTTO on it 😂
My most favorite thing I bought for my Harley Sport Glide was and is the 2020 Sport Glide for my wife and all the fuel we need.
AWW! That's awesome lol
Always enjoy your videos Amanda.
My fav “get” for this year would have to be my Mavic mini 👍🏻
Thank you Critter!
ooo that sounds like it must be a ton of fun to fly!!
The fire 🔥 is actually making me feel warm! Good review on the gear, I am looking to replace some gear this is very helpful
Hurray! Glad it was helpful!
one of the best things i found was your channel, brilliant work and all the best for 2021 stay safe
AW! Thank you Ian that means a lot to me!
Kickstand extension pad, LED headlight replacement bulb. Get well! :D
Oooooo LED Upgrade!!
My major purchase was my bike, a 2019 Suzuki V-Strom 650. I'm currently working on gathering everything together to head out across the country for an extended trip... when things start opening up again.
Heck ya!! Congrats that's very exciting!
Magnetic phone charger you can buy multiple connectors that stay in and then just one charge lead
Rad!
Digital dash board, I kept burning up speedometers . I ride a 1982 Honda GL1100 Goldwing
What a rad upgrade for a rad bike!
Hum new gear . I got Ruroc helmet that been game changer
My Rekluse was my absolutely best favorite most amazing upgrade this year. Awesome video and hope you get to feeling better!
YAY! Rekluse for the winnnn!
Thanks Kris
Merry Christmas to you and your family and to all viewers.
Happy holidays!
I added a set of waterproof Merrell hiking shoes to wear at camp. Awesome footwear and so far the waterproof claim has held true.
Oh heck ya! love my Merrells!
Thanks Nate!
If I had some fellow riders to ride with, the intercom would work just as well too.
haha I'm sure the Itchy Boot fandom would not agree with you, but I appreciate it nonetheless Falcro Thank you.
I purchased an Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1 tent, and I ordered a camera and a chest rig, so I can start taking videos of my rides. And I also bought more cheese this year, I don’t know what that has to do with anything. Merry Christmas.
Awesome!
Hey cheese is just as exciting has chest rigs in my book XD in a good way!
Merry Christmas!
The only thing I bought for the bike was a Ram Mount for my cellular phone. I hope you feel better soon.
Hey that's still counts! :P
Thanks Roy!
Love your videos, especially the one in Wv where I'm from take care and MERRY CHRISTMAS
Thanks very much! Merry Christmas!
I hope you got better! Loved the video. Merry Christmas! All the best and stay safe and healthy.
Still under the weather unfortunately, but thank you!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you! Love your videos as always. I am looking forward to seeing what you do in 2021!
Me, I could not pass up another old BMW Airhead!
Merry Christmas Hal!
Hello - can you share details on the mapping/navigation and travel planning apps did you use for your travel?
czcams.com/video/IFSF_coIvDQ/video.html
@@AstheMagpieFlies Thanks Amanda!
Happy holidays!
@@AstheMagpieFlies thank you! PS: Can you please share which app you use on your tablet to edit the videos?
Thank you.
Kinemaster
@@AstheMagpieFlies thank you!
Love the comments about gear but some people ride strictly street bikes, not Enduro (off/on road) More about that
?? Like you want more about off road or more about street? I'm kind of confused
Fantastic! BTW, what editing software do you use on your tablet and how do you download video clips to it?
It was Kinemaster. I have a Sony Camera so I use the Sony Image app to transfer files form the camera to the tablet.
Yours sincerely
The Danish Viking.
AW Thank you! I really appreciate that! :D I hope I can continue to entertain!
For real. Women's gear is just frustrating as all heck.
Congrats on the new CRF250L!! :D
YAY GEAR VIDEO! 🥰
YAY! haha I'm glad you liked it :D
What video editing software do you use on your tablet? Thanks
Tent review please.
