- This video about minivan conversion, and van conversion, explains how, and why, I did a hard floor. It also discusses how relevant it is to do a hard floor versus using a carpet.
When this video was released, this hard floor was almost at it's fourth birthday. So as usual, everything presented on my channel is always fully tested!
In the video, you will be able to see parts of my converted minivan. If you want to learn more about the overall conversion, you are invited to watch my van tour:
• Van Tour: DIY conversi...
This video is also part of a playlist about van conversion technics:
• Eric's: conversion tec...
Give me some feedback! It is so much more interesting for me when I get feedback from you. I also really appreciate knowing from which state or country you have just watched my video.
This channel is based on decades of experience. Everything explained is authentic, genuine, and fully tested. Take note that I am not sponsored by anyone. You have my honest and raw opinion.
Synchronized captions are available in English and in French.
I see lots of mini van conversions all over CZcams that copy you! And alot of them do give you credit for the inspiration. Thank you for sharing
Thank you Angelina for this awesome comment! I really appreciate 😃✌️
I always enjoy your videos. Could you do a video on some of the meals you cook in the van? I feel your very authentic and I value your opinion. Thank you for all your tips!
Thank you Barbara for your appreciation and for your video suggestion! It is going to be an interesting video to produce! 😃👍
I would appreciate van life tips and DIY project stuff - great series BTW.
Noted! Thank you for your video suggestion 👍😃
Hi Eric! Thank you soooo much for all your inspiration! I've watched all your vids multiple times. I recently bought a 2015 Sienna to convert, and just finished the flooring project. It turned out great, and never could have done it without all your detail. Working on the bed frame now! Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing Frank! I am glade to be part of your project with my videos! Enjoy realizing your project 😃✌️
Now we know where the spare tire is in our Sienna, but too late, the floor is installed and we will have to cut a hole in the floor. Thank you a million for helping us know where that access point is to the spare tire and showing us how you built your floor (we copied your idea and we love it)
Thank you Kathy! I am glade to be of any help!
Yes it is better to cut a hole to have access to the spare tire. Someday, you may need it. But this day may never come hopefully! ✌️
I used to live in the camper van and for a while in my minivan. I have a friend who can do almost anything but he is not really keen on me fixing up my minivan to live in again. If I can convince him then yours is the only channel that he really needs to watch! Thank you for your amazing videos, I may have to do it myself 🤣💜
Thank you for your awesome comment Debra! If you can not have help from your friend, trust you to DIY. You already have experiences! Just have to follow those steps:

✌️
Any luck with your handy friend?
Eric, a note--the video about "steps and cost" is not placed in any of the three playlists as far as i see and only available by viewing the menu of all your videos. I think it's a wonderful video and you should consider putting it in either the "technics" or "concepts" playlists. Thank you for your invaluable videos! I just bought a 2005 Sienna and am starting my building, bit by bit. Cheers.
i just found you!!!! Oh my Lord you are brilliant! I am going to binge watch all your videos!!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this awesome feedback! You made my day! 😃✌️
Another super informative video about one of the best van conversions on you tube. Many thanks Eric.
Thank you for this awesome feedback 😃✌️
Missed you Eric! I am probably your number one fan in England and I recommend your videos to everyone. I bought a 2014 Citroen Berlingo mpv last year and am slowly building it out according to your instructions. Everything is spot on and so useful.
And to add, using your sequence of what to do first I was able to use the van for many overnight trips with my two little dogs last summer. I am a middle aged woman with very limited diy skills and I really cannot thank you enough
Thank you Miow! This is an awesome comment! I can not be more glade to help someone realizing her project. You can certainly diy. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask! Enjoy your project my friend!😃✌️
Your conversion videos are far and away the best I've found on youtube, and I am binging them all. So helpful, thank you!
Thank you! What an awesome comment! I am glade that you enjoy them! 😃✌️

I am dreaming to see those kangourous in their natural habitat!
Enjoy your project my friends! 😃✌️
great video Eric from Canada , Niagara Falls
Thank you my friend 😃✌️
I also enjoy your videos. I would appreciate both van life tips and travel tips, interspersed among van conversion videos.
I really like that suggestion! Alternating will be also more fun for me! Thank you for your comment 😃✌️
Great video! Thanks from the mountains of north Georgia
Thank you for your feedback 😃👍
thanks for video. I gave up vinyl flooring, its so heavy. I put light floor mat on the board, it's ok for several camping in a year. If I will go long trip oneday , I will put a water proof carpet on mat , like Ruggable.
There’s many ways to go. The important is to go! Thank you for sharing your thinking! 👍😃
It is always a pleasure to watch your videos Erik . You have the clearest explanation in the DIY van conversion community. Greetings from Smithers BC
Thank you Agnes for this nice comment! I am really proud to read this! 😃✌️
Hey, Eric! Good to see you again! Thanks for the video! :)
Thank you Alex! It’s a pleasure 😃👍
I am looking for a Sienna to do the conversion on. Thanks for sharing and doing such a great job.
You comment is much appreciated 😃✌️
You have helped me so much with how to handle the difficult irregular shapes, and with solutions for securing everything safely. I am planning a build for the 2008 Odyssey my son gave me. It came already stripped down to the metal. I'm an artist in in Maine, USA and travel around to paint en plein air.
Congratulation for your lucky gift! I think that your concerted minivan will be perfect for your intentions! Thank you for your appreciation. It is much appreciated 😃✌️
Hope your build is going great!! I have a sprinter van for conversion (200), but if I didn’t, I’d be shopping used mini vans hard!
Your solution for the 2nd row seat trolleys is brilliant. No sacrifice of height. I was planning to build on top of the trolleys, but your design is far better. Thank you!
It’s a pleasure Jane! Thank you for your comment.✌️
Your concept makes sense, is useful and avoids the unnecessary things. You give good reasoning, why to do, or not to do something. Thanks
Thank you! Your feedback is very much appreciated 😃✌️
Thanks from Northern Ireland, another very well made video. I enjoy your building tips and am inspired by them; I would also like to see some more videos on tips for vanlife - travel videos are already abundant on youtube.
Thank you Errol for your appreciation and for your suggestion. This is a good point 👍
Awesome video Eric! So helpful and simple. Love your channel man. I would say a video describing the solar system and specs of your panel, battery, etc. would be the next best one. Also maybe some advice for how to do interesting things like surfing, diving, hiking, while maintaining a clean living space. A video like that could be a mix of adventure and advice (ex: a video covering a cool surf spot you visited and how you kept your van clean while surfing there!)
Thank Zeke for those video suggestions! I will definitely keep them! Thank you also for your appreciation! 👍😃
I mostly watch your videos with my husband on his device. We are in the process of planning to fit out our first camper van. Our vehicle is a Toyota estima and we live in New Zealand. We have both been finding your videos so very helpful, thank you.
Thank you Margaret Anne for you nice feedback!
New Zealand! So cool! 😃
Enjoy your project ✌️
Your vids are always clear, concise, and informative. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Have a beautiful day! 😊
Thank you for this awesome comment! 😃✌️
Great to see you back. I’m really pleased how my sienna turned out. I thank you for that.
It’s a pleasure! Congratulation for your build. It’s always fun to have comments of people happy of their results! 😃👍
Eric posts the BEST conversion videos!
Thank you! Such a nice comment! 😃✌️
Thank you from Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA! I am going to follow your ideas and advice for my Sienna build. This flooring video is great - all of your videos are so helpful. It is impressive that you have done this all yourself with a jigsaw! I would love to see a video about how your electric system is set up. Safe travels, and thank you for making these inspiring videos!
Philadelphia! Strangely not that much often comments... Thank you Erika!
You can effectively do this with only a jigsaw and a drill! The use of a third hand to hold things while you work is also always welcome! Enjoy planning your project and do not hesitate if you have any questions 😃✌️
I know you have always said how important it is not to screw anything in the walls so that you can return everything back to the original way it was for resale, but I think you could sell the vehicle for a lot more if you left it as a mini camper. I know I would buy it this way. Save me a lot of work to buy something like what you have created. Thank you and Merry Xmas 2022.
The thing is that you will have to spend again to rebuild a new conversion $$$. Also it is not everyone who want a minivan converted… ✌️
Eric, I had no idea my spare tire was located underneath the van, and I was the one who installed the wiring harness for my cargo box, snaking the wires down fro the engine, and along the underside all the way to the back, on the driver side of the van. Not very observant! 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you so much for all your help with my van conversion. I almost have my template complete for my second attempt at the floor. 😊
I am glade that you now know where it is. It is going to be more helpful! You now have to learn how to lower it...😉 Don’t forget to learn this in the user manual!
I am very glade of your feedback. Thank you my friend! Enjoy every steps of your project Allyson 😃✌️
I find myself trying to refine what you have done. For instance I tried to move the trolleys more forward by removing the screws in the front of the assemblies. I was able to move 2 of them, the one closest to the passenger door and the middle one closest to the middle console, forward 2 inches. I removed the screw at the front of the assemply to allow the front pin to move up under the carpeting, but was unable to remove the screw in the one to the right of the center trolley. So in the end, I decided it was easier to leave them where they are and give up the 2 inches! It just makes it easier to make and cut the template for the flooring. So even though it is fun to try, I have learned to just trust your tried and true methods. I keep saying to myself, "trust Eric, he knows!" :) Thank you again for all of your very helpful videos and your ingenuity!!
Thank you Carolyn! So cool to read! Happy travel my friend ✌️😃
Another very helpful video 🙂 thank you
Thank you my friend 👍
Getting ready to fix up my Honda Odyssey Van. Great videos!!
Eric, thank you for your videos. I'm planning to do a conversion of my old Ford Galaxy in the near future, so I've watched quite a lot of the videos about it and, I must say, I find yours one of the best. I especially like the aesthetic, neat look of your ideas, as well as their "doability", without special knowledge and equipment. I especially like the idea for the sofa-bed, but the flooring is also brilliant and I'll consider implementing it in my own project. Greetings from Warsaw, Poland.
Poland! This is cool!👍
Thank you Krzysztof for your nice feedback! It is much appreciated. Enjoy planning your project 😃✌️
Absolutely extraordinary content - I am hooked on you and your channel. You have inspired me and with you mentorship to help me every step I believe I can do it also. It has been a dream to do this for many years. I purchased an older Sienna AWD van a few years ago, and it has proved reliable. I have been hunting for good advice - and now I know I have found it. I am Allan J from Alberta, originally from Nova Scotia and I am excited about my van build and what that will make possible. Thank you Sir - your wealth of knowledge and experience is a huge gift to others. Thank You Eric !
It’s a pleasure to read your comment. I really appreciate helping people realize their dreams of van life, travel, simplicity as a life style,…
I am glad to be part of you project. Enjoy doing your van conversion! You are building your dream! ✌️
Hi Allan, Indeed, Eric's videos are awesome. I am also in Alberta (Calgary) and am planning to convert my Honda Odyssey van following Eric's design.
Thank you for sharing these videos.
They are greatly assisting me in my, “getting the van ready for adventures” attempts.
I’m new at this so thanks again.
Thank you for your feedback. Enjoy your project. So fun to realize a dream! 😃✌️
Thanks for sharing, very educational
Thank you for your feedback 😃
Thanks Eric! About to start the conversion of my Chrysler Pacifica. I'll be using a lot of your designs and suggestions. I also plan to travel around north America to surf, SUP, cycle and explore. Your videos have been a big inspiration. Merci beaucoup 🙂😎
Hey Ali! We may cross our path! Same playground and activities! Enjoy your project my friend 😃✌️
Hi Eric I all way like to watch you videos you show is sampled and thank you for your showing me the flor you do a good 👍 show so people include me understand because you show step by step I like it thank you again god bless you and your family I live in Minnesota
Thank you Dat for your nice comment. I really appreciate. 😃✌️
I’m floored by the quality of your videos.
😂 thank you my friend! 😃✌️
Wow!! You may have convinced me that EVEN I could do a simple van conversion! I have watched HUNDREDS of videos because I am not talented and I don’t have a lot of money. I am sure it is not as easy as you make it seem, but by breaking it down, it does look at least possible. Thank you for sharing.
Hello Cyndi! You will be surprised how good you can be if you take your time and go step by step. Lots of people have proudly written me about there success and had no previous experiences. You can do this my friend 👍✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 thank you for your encouragement! Your life is an inspiration for the rest of us.
I am in Vancouver and will keep checking your video for all your program special for how to produce the necessary thing and the best thing you sharing your experience for what is necessary for good and bed ,

Another great video! I value and appreciate all of them, no matter the topic!
Thank you Karen! I am proud of your comment! 😃✌️
No music, oh joy!!!! Merci Eric! That was so soothing on the ears. Loved it.
You are such a good teacher, excellent video and instruction! Thank you!!
This is an excellent floor. I never knew they made this type of click lock vinyl. I should have used this instead of the bamboo wood floors I installed which are not water resistant at all. I have to redo them all over again.
Let me share some of my own DIY findings:
There is this tile backer board made by Schluter, a German company. It is called Ditra. It is a floating backer board meant to 'float' tiles wherever there is some movement so tiles don't crack. Ditra is like compressed foam but much more resilient and has a bit of cushioning to it. If you used Ditra as the base, then put a thinner sheet of wood on it, you might not need shimming. Ditra is pricey, as all Schluter products but one of the best.
Another very nice product I found on Amazon, is Silent Silver (aka Silent Blue). It is a thin 1/8" thick closed cell neoprene pad with a polyester silver foil film on one side. This is an excellent thermal, sound, and moisture barrier layer and best as an underlayment for a wood floor. I used it over a plywood substrate, and laid clicklock wood flooring on top. It cushions any gaps. It is cheap and low profile. You can also use it in ceiling for added thermal break and noise reduction. Use it inside door panels for noise reduction, over wheel wells, and in window coverings. It acts like Reflectix, but thinner. Use both for added insulation. You can also use this around your fridge to insulate it, along with a cloth cover. Put some inside the lid and all around it. Great stuff.
Hi eric , im from australia and fitting out a ford transit, LWB , high roof, my partner is 6'4 and iv been racking my brain for the right suze bed for him. Now we have found it..... thankyou so much eric, you are amazing🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks a million, your videos are by far the best on van conversion. I love your simple and straight to point approach. West Yorkshire, England.
Thank you my friend! I really appreciate your comment 😃✌️
Hi Eric from the UK I would appreciate a video on the electrical installation for battery, switches, lights etc. I have used your bed ideas with a few modifications to fit my van and have nearly finished the installation. Thank you for such informative work.
Regards Geoff
It’s a pleasure Geoff! Thank you for sharing about your project. Yes I will do a video series about all the electric installations👍
Hi Eric, as usual love to watch your great videos. Thanks for uploading. 👍
Thank you Simon! This is a great comment for me! 😃✌️
@@ericenjoysearth2756 You're welcome Eric.
Hello Eric, It's great how you explain everything. I want to convert a Renault Kangoo. Maybe there are folks with the same wishes so we can share ideas. Regards, jack from Holland.

Travel tips videos! Greetings from Miami! Stop by if you’re ever on your way to the Keys!
Thank you for you feedback, you lucky floridian! And thank you for the invitation ✌️
I wish you would come to San Diego and help me convert my 2012 Honda Odyssey! I just bought it and I am in the process of watching ALL your videos, to try to economize and avoid unnecessary mistakes! I especially like your tips about staying inside and having access to what you need - even in bad weather, or when you need to be discreet!
Nice. I'm in NE Tennessee. Arrived boondocking in my motorhome and settled in for awhile with my dog in an apartment.
Thank you Dan for your comment ✌️
Thanks Eric from a Canadian living in NorCal. Cheers! Love your info. I'll build out my Sienna one day!
Thanks! Enjoy planning your conversion 😃✌️
Hi Eric, from Oregon USA.
Yes travel and van life tips would be great.
Cool! I like that! Thank you for your suggestion 👍
I have just purchased a 2008 KIA Sedona that I want to convert without altering the original van. Having installed a floor in my condo, I have considered installing a vinyl floor in the van without pulling up the carpeted floor. This video has made me believe this can be done and I will still have a van that I can resell if needed. I am watching and writing from Concord, NC. Thank you for this video and the knowledge that you share.
Perfect plan Bud! I am glade to be helpful in your project! Thank you for your comment 😃✌️
Awesome! Thank you very much for sharing! 👍👍🚙🏞🌞
Excellent and easy to follow video Eric. I'd like to see all of your suggestions for new videos but I'd like to see your travel videos combined with van life tips during the trip.
Thanks
Nate
Thank you Nate for your suggestions and for you appreciation. 😃👍
Eric, my wife and I love your videos!! We just returned from Thailand, but for many years we went down to the south of the USA and loved it. We just have a Rav4 now, but we can sleep in it we figure. But we will also look for a used Sienna Van, but definitely hit the road down South this winter no matter what vehicle we have!!!
Thanks for the video - I love how everything is extremely well thought out. I'm contemplating the idea of putting down some hard flooring in my SUV conversion, but it's much "lumpier" than a minivan once I removed my middle-row seats. I have to keep the 3rd row because in my non-traveling days, I need to accommodate two kids, one in a carseat lol, so everything has to be very modular. But protecting my poor Santa Fe's carpet is really needed!
You have a cool project Lora! This is fun to realize. You will enjoy your travels! 👍😃
Brilliant! You gave me great reasons to go for that hard f?lot instead of carpet!
Thank you Mary! You will enjoy this so much! ✌️
Hi Eric. Thank you for all these inspiring videos. I'm writing you from Southeast Brazil.

Your dog turned its head against you when you called it a "smelly stuff", LOL
Yes! lol 😂
He is really something! 😂✌️
Seeing how you converted your van has inspired me to do my van in similar fashion. This video of the floor answered many questions. Your level of ingenuity and craftsmanship is impressive. Thanks Eric for sharing with us.

Hi Éric (salut 😉) I love your whole list of van life videos! No bull and Instagram click bait dreamy pictures of waking up with the beach in your back window... 😂 I was curious to know how you stay warm in cold weather? Not frigid cold more like temperature between say -5c overnight to below 10c during daytime. Once your are back in the van after an adventure changed and ready to chill after a meal before and during your sleep Thanks for the great content and my inspiration for building my own setup for next summer and after! 👌

C’est un plaisir! Vous ne regretterez jamais ce projet! Merci pour le feedback 👍
Great flooring design. I'm wondering if it's necessary to have a floor under the cabinets? Maybe save a tiny amount of material, weight and cost there too.
Thanks for creating and posting such excellent video content!
Having a floor under cabinets is not absolutely necessary. My rear one those not have one. But it is useful for the kitchen cabinet to put the water canisters… ✌️
Love the content and the hype man, thank you. Building a sienna out now for the rest of summer snow season and then will make a mexico surf trip. Ive been referring to your vids constantly, ur a champion!
Thank you! Your comment is very much appreciated 😃
Enjoy your trip! Currently on a surf trip also 😃✌️
Thank you! I asked for a video on how you did your floor, it’s excellent. My van is finished with phase 1. Completely functional, thank you for you inspiration!
Great! Congratulation Audrey! 👍😃 Thank you for your appreciation ✌️
Update my van burned to the ground 😭, I’m starting over. And reliability is my number1 consideration so I think I’m going with a Toyota this time. I really wanted to be able to stand up but not any vans I can afford considering reliability gas etc. thank you so much for your videos, I’ll be binging on them again!
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to get started on my minivan floor.
Great! Thank you Rhonda for you gratitude 😃✌️

Thank you Eric for all the work to upload these videos. I think for most people it's a daunting task to convert your vehicle, and you have made it so simple and easy for us with your thorough explanations, especially the visual aids you do from time to time. I am guessing you have an engineering background, you account for so many potential material and fatigue problems in your design.

I found this informative. I’m thinking of buying a used Sienna or Odyssey, but leaning Sienna. To me, it makes no sense to go to all this trouble to then have vehicle reliability issues. You really answered my questions about how to deal with flooring and interior headroom. This is a drawback of a minivan, but there are plenty of disadvantages to a taller vehicle as well. Cost, availability, reliability of available models, etc. I suppose the Nissan NV2500 could be a decent vehicle. I just gravitate toward the Toyo for a used van around $10k. So yeah, not planning on spending a ton. And the mini cargo vans don’t seem to be generally pleasing to owners - whom are mainly businesses that have employees driving them.
This is a good retrospective! Thank you for sharing 👍
Oo great video. can you please do how you cook in your van to make a complicated meal in the rain? Even if you do not do this yourself it can help those that like to cook complicated meals.
