    I like the idea of focusing and bringing the disc into the right pec (as a righty). That does seem like it will help reduce rounding. I'm not sure I can get there, per se, but I think it can be used to help minimize rounding. Preventing reaching back too far across the body.
    I'm also using a new coach, after taking the Scott Stokely Method for 6 months. I'm going with Owen from Trebuchet Disc Golf and it's nice to have someone who _gets_ me. I have a hard time relating my problem to others, including friends, so they don't really understand how to help my specific problems. But Owen's been able to a) speak my language and understand me, as well as b) give me targeted advice on specific problems I have.

    I really enjoyed this! It really helped make it click for me that playing a couple rounds a week won't improve my throws. Thanks for the inspiration to get methodical about practice. I guess it all boils down to the fact that throwing the disc properly involves moving your body faster than your brain. Controlled, monitored repetition of the correct form seems to be the only way. Thanks for making this!

    So I want to preface this: I'm not coming with any hate at all. But what you were describing was pulling the lawnmower. For the past 3 years or so there's been a lot of poopoo-ing on pulling the lawnmower in favor of spin & throw, which then became twirly bird, then back leg disc golf noodle arm. And I thought a lot of that poopooing was unnecessary. Happy to see that your breakthrough is going back to what the PROs have been saying for years before all these methods and jargon flooded the coaching market. X step, reach back, plant, pull through, follow through. It's not complicated. It's nice to follow you on your journey.

    Wow great video! Your before form with the shoulders turning first is exactly like me. I just recently started to pull the disc first and keep my shoulders still just like in this video. Ive had some success but im noticing every few shots when i pull through to the hit i have a really bad late release. Any ideas on why this happens and how to fix? I feel like my timing was better when i was rounding lol

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před 11 měsíci

      So what happens with me is I get too comfortable and then start to use my shoulders again to try to throw harder. When that happens, it exaggerates any type of late release. I need to refocus and not even think about throwing hard. Just get the disc through the pocket to the hit.

    • @kmgolf5506
      @kmgolf5506 Před 11 měsíci

      @@discsmd gotcha. That makes sense. In the field and in rounds, I can throw pretty solid when I'm focused on getting the elbow to pull first. But I have a few throws that'll go 50 feet left of my line (I'm lefty) and really high.
      I have one more question if you don't mind, how do you go from the power pocket to the hit? Are you just continually pulling through the pocket with the arm,, or trying to use your shoulders and torso to eject the disc?

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před 11 měsíci

      @kmgolf5506 great question!! Mind if I answer that with a video? It was actually a question I asked Josh. He gave me two schools of thought to try out. And I prefer the one over the other, but it is certainly person dependant. I'll try to get it out at the end of the week!

  • @derekhiggins9565
    @derekhiggins9565 Před 3 měsíci

    Are you trying to keep your arm very loose and relaxed on the backswing up to the hot point? I've been trying to do it with that thought process. Or should I try to use my arm muscles to get it into the power pocket? This is something that always seems unclear to me. Seems like you hear different people describe it different ways. Lots of teachers say that if you just keep your arm really loose and relaxed that as your hips turn, the disc just naturally falls into the power pocket. Thank you.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I have been trying to stay loose. I have a video on that from about a month ago, I think. I think it's one of the hardest things to train yourself to do. The instinct is to try to "muscle" it, and that doesn't work.

    How do you not hyper-extend your elbow at the hit? I was working on Josh's grip and lead arm drills, and can't seem to stop my arm from extending fully and hurting my elbow (nursing a sore elbow as I type this).

  • @davesage4931
    @davesage4931 Před 9 měsíci

    I struggle with that 33 degree reach back because I must pull the diss along that line and it flies 33% to the right (rhbh). In essence is the disc supposed to travel in a straight towards target as you pull it thru, or are you pulling into your body and redirecting towards target?

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před 9 měsíci +1

      From how it's been explained to me and how I think about it, you pull it into the power pocket and then extend your arm out to your line. It is a slight in and out, but at full speed, it's not noticeable.

      @@discsmd I think I have a pretty good understanding of the mechanics and I'm getting to the point where I can throw decently in the field, but for the love of god, I cannot get anything to work as soon as I stand on a tee pad, especially if there's any resemblance of a gap I need to hit. But my form has improved in the field, I'm hoping it's only a matter of time that it translates into better scores as well. It's not easy when it does not come naturally...

      @creativeflyfishing998 you are describing me to the tee...pun intended..lol. it will come. My suggestion is really slowing down your run up for your drives. If you watch my rounds, I basically walk up really slow now. And I still throw just as far if not farther.

  • @jerkwagon
    @jerkwagon Před rokem

    if you go back and watch your replays frame by frame when you demo your new homework drill, you get a deep pocket when you dont actually throw the disc, when you actually throw the disc, you dont get any sort of deep pocket. I wonder if its more of a feel vs real. I guess this is the same thing as his drill from a few videos ago.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před rokem +2

      So my theory on this is that real speed is EXTREMLY difficult if not impossible to get that deep into the pocket because of the arm speed increase. So my intention is to teach my body to get as deep as I can into the pocket during my shadow throws so I get as deep as possible when I actually throw, knowing that real time won't be as deep in the pocket.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd  Před rokem +1

      Also, this is still a work in progress for ne. 3 weeks isn't a long time. So I'm still learning what it feels like. I still have to correct things, which is why I video every 4 throws or so, to reset what I am doing. I imagine this is going to take months if not a year to perfect.

    • @jerkwagon
      @jerkwagon Před rokem

      yeah most likely, i think its a work in progress and not something you will figure out over night im not 100% sure im on board with the deep pocket, only because i dont fully understand it, if i hold the disc in teh pocket, i feel like i can power the disc a lot more than if its in the deep pocket.. This is also most likely because im going from still position to throw, vs it being part of the throw!

      @NickCarroll Před 11 měsíci

      @@jerkwagonmy thought on this, after watching his video this morning and trying it a little in a couple rounds I played today, is it probably moves you more away from rounding, by not having your arm reach across your body as much. So you may not get in the "deep pocket" as much as you prevent rounding. I think it's definitely more a battle against feel, than it is against real. I think cues are becoming super important, more than being technically correct, if it can get the body to make the changes. For example, I need to do X. I try X. Nothing actually changes. So I try Y. That doesn't work. How about Z? Okay that got me to make a specific correction. I think that's the route some of us have to take.
