Just watched your first video and start exploring more. Right now if I pick a hotel in the Indre By area it is coming around $400 - $500 for two nights with some cancellation option seem to be a bit pricey when I checked Radisson Blue. Any other decent hotels I am little bit flexible with location as well. Cheers 👍

All of our flights were having a long layover in Copenhagen so we thought we should just embrace it and have a little time for a quick exploration. Any suggestions on where to stay. • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Thank you very much, Kyle! No, Copenhagen is very small compared to other major European capitals, and the Metro connects all the main areas very well.
      So I'd suggest getting a hostel in the city centre or near a metro station in Vesterbro or Nørrebro, for instance. Next House Copenhagen in the city centre is a popular option: destinationwellknown.com/link/nexthouse-cph
      It's a stone's throw from the waterfront, Tivoli Gardens, the central station and the cute streets of the old town.
      If you want a more local vibe, then the Sleep in Heaven hostel in Nørrebro is brilliant as well: destinationwellknown.com/link/sleepinheaven-cphyt
      I've got a mate from Canada who stayed there for a week, and he loved it.

    Where should we stay in this scenario? Arriving early afternoon but have to be back at the airport before 9am next morning for a long haul flight. Metro into the city, stay in the city centre and metro back or book into somewhere at the airport, metro in to town and then back to the airport later in the evening after a quick look around, meal etc.

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Definitely get a city centre hotel. The metro runs so smoothly from city centre to airport that there's no reason to stay in the dull area near the airport. If you stay within walking distance of Kongens Nytorv or Nørreport it's going to be super easy.

    NH Collection Copenhagen

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  Před 8 měsíci

      Sure! So, 25Hours is literally in the heart of Copenhagen - you can't find a more central hotel than that.
      NH Collection is in Christianshavn, but you can walk to the city centre in 2 minutes over a bridge.
      So they're both extremely central places to stay in Copenhagen and excellent hotels, too.
      Perhaps NH is a bit more luxurious, and they've just opened their rooftop bar with an epic view of Copenhagen. But 25Hours wins on location by a margin.

    Hi, I first visited Copenhagen in 2014 and arrived here today for the 5th time. Its such a brilliant place and everyone is so friendly. I want to get a train to another town to see a bit more of Denmark, do you have any sugestions? I was thinking Roskilde, a friend suggested Helsingor.

      Hi there. That's awesome to hear! I agree with your friend: Helsingør (or Elsinore, as it's called/spelt in English) would be a brilliant day trip from Copenhagen. You can take the "Øresundstog" from Copenhagen Central Station to Helsingør in just 46 minutes, and the train ride is quite nice.
      Helsingør is a cute little city where you must visit Kronborg Castle, one of Denmark's most famous castles. You could even take the ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg in Sweden for just a 98 DKK return. The ferries run every 20 minutes, and the trip only takes 20 minutes too. If you want to see a bit of Sweden on your trip, it's incredibly easy as the train station is just a few minutes walk from the ferry port.

      I'm from Copenhagen, and I would say both Roskilde and Helsingør are great choices. Roskilde is both cute and beautiful and has the Roskilde cathedral (Roskilde Domkirke) which is UNESCO world heritage and really beautiful. There's also the Viking museum in Roskilde, if you're into that kind of stuff. Helsingør is also a cute and beautiful city as mentioned by destinationwellknown with the Kronborg Castle (Also UNESCO world heritage, and the castle of Shakespear's Hamlet)

      @@destinationwellknown Hi thanks for the advice, I ended up going to Dragør only a short bus ride from the Airport as it chucked it down (rained heavily) all day when I was planning on going to Helsingør and I didn't want to get soaked, maybe next time. Tried Lagkagehuset for the first time, aah those Danish pastries and sandwiches, it's like a really posh Greggs. Not sure if Danes are aware but Lurpak is renowned as the best butter you can get in UK shops, there was a national outcry when the big tub reached £5 last year due to inflation. In some shops it is security tagged, guess it makes the best pastries.

    My wife & I are discussing a possible trip to Copenhagen in early December. Would that be a nice time to visit for 3 nights?

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  Před 9 měsíci +1

      December is the best month to visit Copenhagen of all the winter months (and November). It can get pretty dark, cold and rainy in December, but it could also be 5 degrees Celsius and sunshine - you never know, and it could change during the day. But at least in December, the streets will have a nice sensation because of the Christmas decorations and the cosy Christmas markets. Tivoli is also open with its special Winter/Christmas celebrations.
      So Copenhagen is a totally different city from the one I showed in this video (filmed in June), but December is the best month in winter.

    I have 3 dogs and 2 cats - If i were to move to Copenhagen, It's not likely for us to find a house where they allow me to have that many animals right? I'm thinking about moving to far, far away from the downtown (like maybe Holte) is that unusual choice for people who work in the city?

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, unfortunately, having pets would make it (even) harder to find a place to live in CPH. In general, finding apartments in Greater Copenhagen is extremely hard, so looking for a house in Holte would be a good idea. It'll only take 20 minutes with the S-train from Holte to Nørreport in the city centre, so that would be a brilliant place to live and commute from.

      Spring or Summer 100%. Winters here are usually cold, dark and rainy. This year it's been quite sunny and colder than usual, though.

    While this video is definitely pretty good, it should probably be mentioned that it is possible to utilize Airbnb as well and using that option, it is possible to stay in the suburbs as well. As long as you stay relatively close to an S-Train line or a Metro station, you can easily get into the center of Copenhagen pretty quickly.
    While it is a very good idea to get around by bicycle, a small caution is probably in place. Cyclists in Copenhagen for most part started cycling at a very young age. The pace and amount of cyclists may be a pretty intimidating experience but as long as you don't cycle around during rush hour in the morning and late afternoon, it should be pretty easy.
    Depending on your specific interest, different parts of Copenhagen may be more interesting than others.
    Copenhagen is rich in history but if you are looking for medieval buildings, there are actually not that many in Copenhagen.
    Large parts of the medieval part of Copenhagen burned down in 1728, 1795 and 1807 (the last time thanks to the bombardment by the British navy). These fires laid waste to most of what was the walled in parts of Copenhagen. While there are some building left that are older than 1728, it is really not that many. It is easy to recognize the buildings that were built straight after the fire in 1728 since these buildings do not have 90 degree corners but a flat side at the corner which were made to ease the access of the horse draw fire department getting around. The old part of Copenhagen that burned down had very narrow streets. Part of the rebuilding after the fires in 1728, 1795 and 1807 was to open up the space somewhat to reduce the possibilities of a fire to spread too fast again.
    It should be mentioned that the medieval part of Copenhagen was a fortified city up to the mid 1850s. From that time, it took a little more than 30 years for the old fortifications, bastions and the moat to be removed, reclaimed and turned into more or less the layout the city has today.
