CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Fritz (Dwight Frye) breaks into Dr. Waldman's (Edward Van Sloan) classroom and steals the brain of a criminal after dropping the pristine brain.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Still regarded as the definitive film version of Mary Shelley's classic tale of tragedy and horror, Frankenstein made unknown character actor Boris Karloff a star and created a new icon of terror. Along with the highly successful Dracula, released earlier the same year, it launched Universal Studio's golden age of 1930s horror movies. The film's greatness stems less from its script than from the stark but moody atmosphere created by director James Whale; Herman Rosse's memorable set designs, particularly the fantastic watchtower laboratory, featuring electrical equipment designed by Kenneth Strickfaden; the creature's trademark look from makeup artist Jack Pierce, who required Karloff to don pounds of makeup and heavy asphalt shoes to create the monster's unique lurching gait; and Karloff's nuanced performance as the tormented and bewildered creature. Frankenstein was greeted with screams, moans, and fainting spells upon its initial release, obliging Universal to add a disclaimer in which Edward Van Sloan advises the faint of heart to leave the theater immediately. If they don't: "Well...we've warned you." Director James Whale was memorably embodied by Ian McKellen in the Oscar-winning 1998 biopic Gods and Monsters.

It would've been an entirely different type of movie if Fritz had gotten the right brain.
"Hello, how do you do?"
Instead he chose the brain that said “Abby Normal”
also why did he break in, when he could just walk in ?
Nobel prize?
And this is why we avoid the brains titled Abby...someone.
I just finished reading the book. There's nothing about a hunchbacked servant in the book, nothing about stealing a brain, no scene with lightning bolts to awaken the monster. No fancy electronic machines and batteries in the lab. It's like they made these movies up into an almost completely different story.
The electricity part is loosely based on 1800s articles that said someone "resurrected" a body with the process of galvanism.
The book painted a quiet scene with the rain pattering the window. The rest of the book was more like a tragedy than horror
@@mr.vansjohnson7469 I believe it was Mary Shelley's husband, Percy Shelley, though I might be mistaken.
This movie was more based on the stage play than it was on the book
God Dwight Frye was a phenomenal actor. Loved him here and in Dracula.
I hope that I get to meet him some day!
Was...
I never could understand how Henry Frankenstein did not read the label on the jar that said abnormal brain before he used it..
+Azrael Astrum He obviously thought that the name 'Abbey Normal' was a real name. ;-)
Mary Patterson
Of course..but than again if he would have read it well that wouldn't had left us with much of a movie....
Azrael Astrum
P
Azrael Astrum
Fritz probably peeled the label off before giving the jar to Frankenstein.
Azrael Astrum- Say maybe Henry Frankenstein ended up having " BIT " too much of his great grandfather's wine at the time of the surgery!!!
Just kidding of course!!
Well Schwarzer Ritter made a reply that could be rather logical.
In matter of fact if I were in the screenwriter's spot, I'd probably put something like that in the actual film script as to clarify things. That's just me as I don't know about anybody else.
You had one job, Fritz. One... freaking... job.
I wrote mine before i read any
Fritz was a tad nuts.
Fritz you butterfingers!
But he got the brain. It belonged to Abby Normal. It should do nicely.
Now when I watch THIS movie, I can't help but expect Gene Wilder or Mart Feldman to appear! I guess that's why "Young Frankenstein" is considered a classic and for good reason.
I grew up watching Young Frankenstein and never saw the original, Im just now watching clips and loving all of the references to the original that were woven in
Dwight Frye is just the cutest
Dr. Frankenstein: Igor, would you mind telling me whose brain I did put in?
Igor: And you won't be angry?
Dr. Frankenstein: I will NOT be angry.
Igor: Abby... someone.
Dr. Frankenstein: Abby someone. Abby who?
Igor: Abby... Normal.
Dr. Frankenstein: Abby Normal?
Igor: I'm almost sure that was the name.
Dr. Frankenstein: Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?!! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME!!?!?
Hehee
"Give him the - HRRK!"
"Give him the - HRRK!"
@@WillScarlet16 sedagive?!!! LMAO!
Dropped the good brain: “You fool!”
Well played Igor, well played
1:31 footage of me sneaking into the house after drinking tryinta get some food from the fridge
Honestly, Mr. Renfield? Now brains? Spiders aren't good enough, right?
Haha love the connection 🦇🧛♂️
@@benjaminportillo1085 At least someone gets my reference. XD
@@MrSukram777 I get it too!!
Am I the only one that absolutely loses it when he drops the brain?
If the experiment had been done in a way that was proper, the guy who was killed, if he retained his memory, may have been delighted to have his brain put in a new body?
Anyone here at midnight because of a school project that’s due tomorrow
YUP
Yup but it's regular class work
actually I am, I'm writing a script based on Frankenstein.
What does this have to do with school?
From Mel Brooke's comedic version of "Frankenstein": abbey normal. 😂!
This begins the mad scientist assistant trope!
This scene is not even apart of the original book, in the book Dr. Frankenstein gave his creation the best body parts he could find.
The Frankenstein The Modern Prometheus (1818) novel by Mary Shelley never bothered to explain how he did it, and all Mary Shelley's Victor Frankenstein described is how he was sleep deprived, how he "became capable of bestowing animation [life] upon lifeless matter" and "collected the instruments of life around me that I might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet" and "collected bones from charnel-houses" and "dabbled among the unhallowed damps of the grave" and "the dissecting room and the slaughter-house furnished many of my materials." In Frankenstein (1931) Henry Frankenstein had his assistant Fritz cut down a recently hanged man but discovered "The neck's broken. The brain is useless! We must find another brain." These two brains were preserved in jars with fluid [which must be oxygenated artificial cerebrospinal fluid] for study at the Goldstadt Medical College until Fritz drops the neurotypical brain in the jar labeled "normal" and steals the neurodivergent abnormal brain. In Bride of Frankenstein (1935) Henry Frankenstein had similar trouble finding a fresh useful heart for the Bride.
I think this scene is the highlight of the movie.
Abby someone...
abby who?
Abby... Normal
I HOPE YOU DIDNT MEAN *THAT* ABBY
Dwight Frye was a real chameleon.
"Fate, it would seem, is not without a sense of irony." - Lawrence Fishburne, 1999 c.e.
Still makes me laugh how a gong just magically goes off causing the story to move forward
I don’t know what the reason for it was but it made for a very entertaining flub
Did you guys think if Igor has gotten the normal brain Frankenstein's Mnster would have been a little smarter
Abby Someone..
Abby Someone? Abby Who?
Abby Normal
*ABBY NORMAL*
I’m almost sure that was the name
(Laughs)
Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long fifty-four inch wide.. (chokes Igor) *GORILLIA?!*
IS THAT WHAT YOU’RE TELLING ME?!!
3 words sounds like
Years ago like when I was a kid this movie was terrifying. Younger people have seen movies with special effects the old movies didn't have those. Watching this at midnight on Shock Theatre gave us nightmares. Today people have seen so much gore and violence old movies are not as scary for them.
Nice little goof -- the professor uses "Ladies and Gentlemen" when he is describing the two brains, but just "Gentlemen, the class is dismissed" at the end.
I assume the ladies present weren't students, so he was correct in only referencing the male students when dismissing the class.
Because all the ladies had fainted
You had one job. Fritz!
I think this one is on management. Clearly obvious they should not have send him for the job. ;)
Igor fetch me the brain
I come from fallout 4 sarcasm option
Frankenstein: "Are you telling me... that I put an ABNORMAL BRAIN in a seven in a half foot long...FIFTY FOUR INCH WIDE...GORILLAAA?!!!"
I'm here for the college course: Cinema ... movies watch reports...
Cool
- "Abby someone."
- "Abby someone? Abby who?"
- "Abby.. normal."
Abby Normal.....Gene Wilder anyone?
Why did Fritz take the lid off the normal brain????
Does Fritz look like he has both oars in too you.
@@bibsann861 😂😂
ITS ALIVE!
Ah yes, Abbie Normal, I knew her well
so glad i have this for film studies
Dwight Frye
abby someone
abby who?
+Patrick Shields Abby...normal
Patrick Shields where are you going?
Will Brock taking a rest
Will Brock thanks igore
(Slow clap for fritz)
Abby-Normal!
I remember my dad watching in the living room and when este drops the normal brain and my dad says Bendejo 😂 it would be the perfect brain that got wasted
since when is jack nicholson in 1931 films...
Anyone notice the blooper with the cane? Fritz does have the cane as he steals the dysfunctio cerebri. However, he retrieves the cane from atop a desk on his way out.
NONE OF THIS HAPPENED IN THE BOOK!
Did Henry Frankenstein have a few glasses of his great grandfather 's wine due to overlooking the label on the glass jar????
OR did the screen writer himself downed a shots of booze while writing the film script???
Fritz probably peeled the label off before giving the jar to Frankenstein.
@@schwarzerritter5724- That sounds logical as how can any ex-pupil of medical science overlook such a thing, especially when it comes to someone who formerly attended that particular medical school?... Well thanks for coming out with your statement.
And be well now!!
Fritz had only one important job to do.........The lesson here is, never send a nerve-wracked, deformed, simpleton with butter-fingers to get a brain. Or anything else for that matter.
Eugenics!
Abby Normal sent me here..
I would like to know if anyone has the 1931 Frankenstein film Dubbed in Brazilian Portuguese and complete with a good image and its sequel Frankenstein's bride dubbed also in Brazilian Portuguese and complete. If anyone has a post on youtube or post the link here, I really wanted to watch these two films!
I all ready watched this movie it was pretty good I'm planning to watch the others for this year Halloween
Ah, Abby Normal, that's the one.
How Mr. Was So Happy Because He Was Alive
He thought ab was the guys name.
Believe it or not, this is actually the University of Colorado
Dumb question: if Fritz dropped the normal brain, why is it no good anymore?
very late reply but--as far as i can tell, the brain fell apart into chunks when he dropped it. i doubt organs are all that durable when they're dropped on the ground amidst broken glass.
I was wondering that too. I didn't notice that it fell into chunks.
no one looks at the jars
Now, that Brain that you gave me. Was it Hans Delbrook’s?
No.
What caused him to drop the jar ?
The plot of the movie.
I always figured he banged the table with his cane and then caused the noise which surprised him
Fritz got terribly startled by the loud gong noise which led to him being quite nervous!
Bong!
Pure evil click bait ....The video is not complete....People, do not fall for these click traps. ................
I like old movies
1🇺🇸🌈🎄🏴☠️🏈, bro you see that little man in the window!?!? ...nice work bro you got him...
better read the book
Bro... Just play the movie.... Its from 100 YEARS AGO
Fritz Dies in 35 min
When I watch this I think of Frankenweenie.
That movie is literally based on this.
@@dimitris5866 Wait, I thought Frankenweenie was a children’s version of Pet Semetary. Maybe it’s a mixture of both?
Anyone here after Joe Rogan starting talking about it?
era bueno, pobrecito..♥
Hello
I feel like this Igor wasn’t the best look
Marty Feldman was better.
Ola
The way universal movies portrayed this Scene ! ? In their the typical profit seeking Halloween Genre mode of so much delinquency ! Why didn’t they cast this melodramatic, darkness as having Dr. Frankenstein with, this portrayal of the assistant, Fritz and instead of this assistant being portrayed disabled, ,why not portray Mr. Fritz as a healed Man & assistant of Dr. Frankenstein as an assistant Doctor of a Specialist in Creating Human Beings by the genius at work portrayed of the dark & sinister craft of the Character Dr. Baron Frankenstein & how many Scientific Medical degrees etc… would he have after his Name ? Liken to the Island of Lost Souls & or the Island of Doctor Moreau being a maker of Live Souls and not through a human sexual way but by Scientific darkness itself ! They’re Religious Phantoms how do you like that for Apples 🍎 and your religious Fruit fetish’s etc… ? !
Dr. Frankenstein, universal pictures,, the two seeking those most Important body parts as being gathered the very Heart and Brain of Dr. Frankenstein’s triumph of accomplishment as much the Genius Professional as he is ranked as being in Mary Shelly’s Novel Universal Pictures Inc ?
