    Hello everyone,
    Today I will be sharing 13 tips on how to study effectively as a visual learner.
    The typical oral lecture style and copying down notes may not work for everyone. Because of this many visual learners struggle to do well in school, I certainly struggled until I learnt new study techniques to help me increase my learning potential.
    These techniques may not work for everyone, so find the method that suits your learning and stick to it and you will succeed.
    I hope you find these tips useful.
    I wish you a productive day ahead, take care. ✨

    This video describes my life completely. I have a planner using color coding to remember everything. When I am in a lecture, I use different color pens to remember the notes. Even my Bible, I color code when someone is speaking, the title of their lesson and some point I want to remember. I like to write everything I hear. This has caused me to be a secretary in the church and on my job. I love to use black to outline the important things, yellow, red to outline, orange, green and blue. This is very informative. Thank you.

    I am an visual learner and the worst thing to be a visual learner is that "not knowing how to draw"...

    • @modernpetparents7004
      @modernpetparents7004  Před 3 lety +1

      I know how frustrating that must feel but you can still use basic shapes and rough sketches to represent the idea. To be honest, most of my professors in veterinary school could not draw beyond basic shapes like circles, triangles and stick animals (like stick figures) but it worked and we understood them and learned a lot from them. Diagrams don't have to be pretty to be effective. When I used to do practice questions on my whiteboard it did not look pretty but it was helpful. Thank you for watching :)

      Thank you for the lovely feedback. The closest I've got to having nicely printed flash cards is to print on thick A4 card stock paper (250-300 gsm) double-sided and then cut them into flash cards, but even that is still a lot of work, especially when you're short on time. Have a great day :)

    thanks for this video. When you use your flashcards to revise, do you write the answer down on a piece of paper, or do you say it in your head, or do you visualize the answer as an image or do you say the answer out loud?

    • @modernpetparents7004
      @modernpetparents7004  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey,
      I usually say the answer in my head first and then turn the card to make sure I got it right. On the question side of the flash card I will often draw a symbol or put a picture that would give me a hint to the answer but not the answer itself. So for parasitology flashcards, sometimes seeing a picture of the parasites helps me remember the finer details of the answer like their body morphology, life cycles, movement type, etc.
      If the answer to the flashcard question is explaining a process (eg. the 5 stages of bone fracture remodelling) I visualize the steps in my head before checking out the answer on the back of the flashcard.
      If there is someone around to help me revise, I ask them to go through the flash cards with me, so for example my partner would ask me the question and I would attempt to answer it, if I get it right, we move on to the next question and If I get it wrong he won't tell me the correct answer right away and gives me the chance to figure out the answer.
      Based on the research I have seen, the main point of flash cards is to try your hardest to recall the answer before looking at the answer first (active recall), so I think all the methods you mentioned would work. I have tried to write down the answers when revising before, but it takes way too long and being in vet school I usually barely have enough time to get through all the cards. If you have a lighter content load it could definitely work :)
      Thank you so much for watching. I hope this helps.

      Hi Arifah, I fall into that sometimes as well, it's a difficult habit to break so I put a time constraint on myself to prevent this. For example I put a 30 minute timer for revising a 1 hour lecture. It prevents me from making it too pretty and wasting time. Thanks for watching and good luck :)

    hi, may I know do you recommend me as a visual learner to listen to music while studying? should I use coloured pens? could you give and example of using it? and lastly do you think three months is possible to study for an exam?

    • @modernpetparents7004
      @modernpetparents7004  Před 2 lety

      Hi Hayy,
      It really depends on you! I like listening to music but I find that only instrumental music (without lyrics) works for me while studying. Otherwise I get too distracted trying to sing along instead of actively learning. If i find music too distracting, I play nature sounds or fireplace sounds on youtube and it helps.
      I personally find coloured pens help but as mentioned in the video too many colours can be distracting and confusing so stick to only a few.
      And yes 3 months is definitely a good amount of time to study for an exam, make a to do list or study schedule for yourself and stick to it.
      Thanks for watching and good luck :)

    • @modernpetparents7004
      @modernpetparents7004  Před 3 lety +1

      I think the most important thing when making mind maps is to keep it simple and minimal. Similar to flashcards, try to condense the information as much as you can get away with. I’ve found that it’s impossible to learn everything so I try to know the most important points and only the essential information and the rest is not necessary for a mind map. Also sometimes I use a larger paper size (A3 or A2) when the topic is more complex and in depth and I can’t manage to summarise the content anymore than I already have. Thanks for watching and good luck :)
