Since you guys have watched it. I think I can share this. Apparently if you recall, during S1 of Re:Zero, after Emillia kills the last Finger of Geuse, we can see her cry for a moment before wiping away her tears. Some people speculate that it's because Emillia, althought she doesn't have her memories, deep down still somewhat remembers Geuse.

    Nagatsuki-sensei's livetweets/trivia for episode 18.
Nagatsuki Tappei (Author of Re:Zero) likes to tweet as the episode airs. They usually include trivia and facts around that episode.
    Rough translation:
Yeah! Time for this week's Re: Zero! Last time was a happy story about the past. Setting aside that last minute, let's look forward to the continuation! Please join us!
The three Ryuzus (Alma - Bilma - Delma) are the Ryuzu-sans wearing black clothing. Due to having entered the grave in the past in order to bring Garfiel out, the Ryuzu wearing white clothing (Shima) has become a different being than the other three, and was taken out of the rotation.
Basically, Garfiel was the only one who was aware of Shima's existence and spent time with her regularly over the last ten years. Even though the other Ryuzu-sans knew of her existence, think of it as them being unable to meet with her.
Maybe it should be called the period where 'Sanctuary' was freshly created, or the step where it was still in the middle of being created. The one accompanying Echidna, who created it, is an impertinent Beatrice.
The original Ryuzu was Ryuzu Meyer, and just as was pointed out since the Ryuzu-sans started appearing, if we can have you pay close attention to their ears, you can tell from the common points of the people of 'Sanctuary' that her species is half-elf.
With nothing to do in 'Sanctuary', she was probably bored, wasn't she. It's the sort of feeling where she could kill a lot of free time in the little playground on the top of a department store.
The one who has appeared is Roswaal A. Mathers. You can tell it's a strong bloodline from that appearance.
The period when the original Ryuzu was living, 400 years ago, is essentially the time when the "Witch of Envy" was running wild, and then was stopped. A living witness of that period is rare, and thus precious. The witches are, well, just as it was when we met them in Echidna's tea party, relatively free to wander around.
The newly-appearing girl called Pandora. I think that her fluffy way of speaking and thinking is something that you can't have enough of in the characters that appear, and as the author, I like it.
Incidentally, the story settings about hair color are "Emilia (big and small), Fortuna - silver hair", "Echidna, Regulus - white hair", and "Pandora - platinum".
The floaty, hollow effect-like thing on Pandora's entire body really fits her.
A name came up that you might not be sure if you've heard before or not, but it's fine if you keep it in mind or forget it.
Regulus being swung around after nothing else has had an effect is due to the "Unseen Hand" that other people cannot see. Seeing him finally look dismayed is a bit of a relief.
Geuse is called "Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti", but as for why he introduces himself as Geuse, you'll find the answer to that if you research Betelgeuse (note that in the anime subtitles there is a translation error, in the subtitle her name is Betelgeuse when in fact it is Petelgeuse.) a bit. Or perhaps I'd like you to watch USJ's Universal Monster Live.
Incidentally, the strongest out of the sin archbishops is the "Regulus Corneas" you see here. Even with all of them working together, the rest of the archbishops couldn't defeat him. Of course, being sin archbishops, they absolutely wouldn't work together.
Around this point, Archi only has a short scene to appear in, but I like that he has a lot of important things to say.
It is also the way a child thinks, but Emilia's thought when something bad happens is "It's because I broke a promise, it's because I was bad". There were Fortuna's words from last time as well, but this is another influence for Emilia being particular about promises.
Archi muttered about the "Black Snake", and it's one of the Three Great Mabeasts, you see. That's the "White Whale / Great Rabbit / Black Snake".
His quick judgement in immediately cutting off his own leg and freezing it show it as well, but Archi is, for a young elf, fairly powerful. He has enough skill and will to make it clear why Fortuna would entrust him with protecting Emilia. He's not like the guy in this week's Jump who sold out his lord in seconds.
I think you can tell from her words and actions, but Pandora is someone who believes that people should love each other, regardless of their state or standing.
"Don't you feel anything about that?" "It really pisses me off."
Pandora-sama isn't wearing anything aside from that single piece of cloth, but it's probably because she loves things "in their natural state" or something. Wearing that cloth despite that is her consideration for the others she holds dear.
The demolished forest and ground, and even the torn off arm being restored, are the effect of Pandora's next-level authority. Further, she put quotation marks around "your eyes deceived you".
The episode title is "The Day the Heike Star Smiled", and "Heike Star" is another name for Betelgeuse. It's a title about how, on this occasion, just before he took in the witch factor for the purpose of letting Emilia escape, he showed a smile as he said farewell to a girl who was important to him. Out of the all the titles in Re: Zero, this is one of the ones the author likes best.
Aw, and it seemed like the flow of events at the ending would lead to something good......
More or less, it may look like Pandora-sama can do anything she wants, but there are rules. Well, she may be the most difficult person to kill (but all the archbishops are like that).
Yeah, thanks again for this week! The events that occurred in the past in Emilia's forest, and the 'Sanctuary' of the past that was spoken of. While revealing the secrets of old, the story is heading towards it's finale. Well then, plea~se join us again!

The Fortuna = Puck thing is a very common theory that lots of people think about after seeing how similar they are.
However since the details in the anime and movie are not explained too well its really easy to miss here.
So to clarify the timeline of re zero from what we know so far which is really important if you think about a theory like this:
The era of the witches where they were all alive, satella was sealed, etc. etc. was 400years ago.
The forest was frozen slightly over 100years ago (the timeframe around the current flashback)
emilia woke up a few years before the anime started (she was frozen for roughly 100years)
In the movie we learned that Puck was searching for emilia "for centuries". which means multiple hundreds of years.
Fortuna was alive ~100years ago as we can see in this flashback.
So if we follow common knowledge they could not be the same person since Puck was searching for Emilia for over 100years longer than the current flashback where Fortuna was alive and together with Emilia. Does not add up, does it.
The 2nd question this opens up is if Puck is searching for Emilia for over 200years (the rough date could be guessed through some details shown already but was not directly stated yet) and Emilia roughly 100years ago looks like a super young child how does the age for half elfes there work? You would assume that 200+ years ago Emilia wouldntve even been born yet if she was this small 100years ago. If Emilia was not born yet how can Puck already be searching for Emilia?

If you ever find the time to watch the "Re:Zero Break Time" shorts, they add some comedic tidbits that align with each episode. In this episode, the "break time" short is basically just Echidna struggling to walk through the forest and Emilia not understanding why this witch is so hopeless at cardio 😂
The Break Time shorts also have a lot of fun moments with Otto, and includes a side-story of Frederica and Petra just chillin' at the manor while the rest of the season is happening. It's similar to Memory Snow in that it actually helps to inform the audience WHY Subaru loves the townsfolk and life in the manor so much that he'd give his life for them, the shorts give life to the world inbetween the dramatic moments.
Bringing Petelgeuse back in such a tragic way was one of the more powerful moments of the season, at least for me.

-Brother was an elf if fortuna is sister, so witch mother is which mother is a fun guess (and pun). Not all witches were humans, there are other species in the world too.
-If Fortuna, an elf, is child to Guese, then it means he's something else. He's a spirit, like puck, thus had affinity for Subaru's body as Subaru is very compatible with spirits as Julius said.
-So, if Archbishop of Greed: Regulas Corneas is present with witch factor, means Echidna is already dead. Thus also implies that Echidna, whose voice was there in the frozen bonds movie as Puck's contract, has already met roswaal, created the greater spirits (Puck & Beatrice) and activated the barrier of the sanctuary. Thus puck can't be Fortuna.
-It also means that Satella has most probably already been sealed after killing half the world population. That's because echidna's castle of dreams (where tea party & trials happen) already has the souls of other witches, ehich means she had to go collect their souls after Satella killed them, and the witch cult was established with motive to free Satella, thus Regulas existing proves the curst is already making their moves.
-Pandora seems like the big bad for now, just below Satella & also probably responsible for the cult. Btw, author has mentioned except the top 3 strongest characters, Satella, Dragon & Reinhart, no one else would survive the Archbishop of Greed. Regulas is so strong he could do a 1 vs every other 7 sin witches & their Apostles together & still win.
-Vanity is actually one of the original sins before some bishop revised it. 8 original sins included Vanity (idleness) & Melancholy (depression), which were removed and then Envy was added. Vanity merged with sloth (of i remember correctly) and in Re0 they are ofc a bit twisted from the original, like lust spreading love & pride pridefully judgmental.
-Flugel is also thw one who made the giant tree, that they killed the whale with. The great sage, Flugel. Guese was incompatible with the factor, thus he had to fight maintain sanity as well. Well... he could do that until Vanity broke his mental strength. Also could hint towards other characters, I mean technically Subaru is also an example, until Rem speech happened that is.
-The whiteness near the seal isn't snow or ice btw, its because the gate literally sucks colour out of its surroundings.

My guess is, Echidna's authority is definitely at play. Tome of wisdom was used to make those defective Gospels, but what made the tome? which authority echidna used & was it more powerful just for herself but the book versions are weaker? Did Echidna knew about Emilia's parents & was somehow responsible for their encounter with each other (as demi humans are very discriminated) but hates Emilia because they sacrificed themselves to protect her? Emilia explicitly never remembered the trials before this, she just had no idea what was going on, didn't have her memories unsealed and came out suffering without knowing what happened. Part of Subaru's realisation was that he'd really started agreeing with Roswaal on how Emilia couldn't do anything herself by assuming she was failing the trials because of mental struggles instead of the trial being fundamentally impossible with her(because her memories were sealed by other things).

    Nagatsuki-sensei's livetweets/trivia for episode 17.
Nagatsuki Tappei (Author of Re:Zero) likes to tweet as the episode airs. They usually include trivia and facts around that episode.
    Rough translation:
Yeah, it's time for Re: Zero this week, too! Last time, Emilia saw the results of Subaru breaking his promise, and we're starting off after her amazingly sharp reply to Echidna's spiteful words. What will happen today? Stay tuned!
This start is something that those who have seen "Frozen Bonds" should have some memory of. If you'd like to know the details further, be sure to see "Frozen Bonds"! For even more details, wait for when the main story has gone around ten arcs!
With the contract with Puck cut off, and the lid on her memories opened, Emilia's feelings towards challenging the 'Trial' have changed. With the replication done too accurately, Echidna's lack of stamina is affecting their interaction from the start.
Incidentally, Echidna was saying "Diving too deeply into the dream", but it wasn't something she did intentionally, but rather it turned out like that unconsciously due to her good compatibility with Emilia. That, too, is a matter that causes Echidna to frown.
The reason it's called the "Princess Room" is because Emilia is treated like a princess by the elves of the village. It's not only because she's cute. It's not, but her being cute is one of the reasons.
Emilia is a half-elf due to her father being an elf, and her mother being human. Mother Fortuna is her father's younger sister, and in terms of their relationship she is her aunt, but it seems she really dislikes being called that.
Taking into account the number of years she was sleeping, it would be best to think of these as events from roughly one hundred years ago. Around that time, people known as the "Witch Cult" were engaged in this sort of activity, too. What happened over those hundred years?
I was thinking about this after we had the chance to line up the elves and the people of the witch cult, but the elves are all beautiful. Compared to that, the faces of people from the witch cult feel very hu~man.
Fortuna says "rea~lly", and Emilia picked up that habit of speech from her.
When Emilia is trying to make sure they don't find out she went outside, the lesser spirit healed the scratches on her face and knees, but it can't hide the dirt on her clothes. Alright! Break the paint supplies!! In that action, you can already see her Emilianess...
She's not getting through no matter what she says, and seeing Echidna make a "Grrr" face is, well, how would you put it, hehe, not a bad feeling.
Time passes, and the recollections of the past bounce around in time. In general, Geuse's group comes to visit Emilia's group in the forest perhaps once every three months.
The special forest where the elves live, this is the Great Elior Forest, and the spot called 'Seal' that little Emilia found is an even more special environment within the forest.
About Subaru's actions the previous night, "Promise to hold Emilia's hand" -> "Asking Ryuzu Shima about Garfiel's relationships" -> "Love Letter in the tomb" -> "Emila's not there when he returns in the morning, goes into a panic" is how it went.
Face with little Emilia, Geuse is moved to tears, but due to various things, he'd sworn not to meet with Emilia. That's related to a favor he'd been given in the past, but that's not something little Emilia knows about.
"I'm sure Subaru would allow it even if I did." is an unconscious provocation, isn't it!
As she was up until last time, Emilia, without the premise of seeing the story between Fortuna and Geuse, saw the events of the 'Trial' around her. The reason it didn't happen like that this time is that the cause of her memories being sealed has been removed, the memories being replayed have been expanded on; it's that sort of image, perhaps.
The reason that Emilia treats promises as important is, of course, partly due to the promises they exchange with spirits being important to spirit arts users, but the conversation she had here with Mother Fortuna is a bigger reason. It's just that, since she wasn't able to recall this, Emilia was left with only a strong feeling of rejection towards breaking promises.
Her actual age isn't made clear, but well, since she's an elf, she's lived a tremendously long life.

Puck cant be fortuna because Regulas exists, means Echidna is dead, means all other witches are dead and the witch cult exists now meaning Satella has also been sealed. Echidna created the artificial spirits, so Puck & Beatrice have already been created by Echidna the she died after collecting all other witch souls.

    • @dirtymightmusic5239

      Witch era = 400years ago
This flashback = roughly 100years ago.
Amd Echidna created Artificial spirits not greater spirits. In the case of Puck and Beatrice they were created as the "rank" (or evolutionary status) of a great spirit that is correct.
But not all greater spirits were created by Echidna (not how it works) and Puck only achieved his status as one of the 4 great spirits muuuuuuuch later on.

@@dirtymightmusic5239 ah , thanks on the correction about the greater spirits thing. I thought I was making mistake but forgot the difference so just let it be. but yeah, Even then the timeline has puck be created much before sanctuary stuff.
and puck became greater after he defeated merequala (of what's his name) in frozen bonds & took its place in the rankings. which was 8 or 11-12 years before re0 i think, or was it months not years.

@@arnabbiswasalsodeep yeah not a big issue just thought id correct that one ^^
artificial spirits = created from echidna
regular spirits start their life as lesser spirits and go from lesser > quasi (the ones julius had in s1) > spirits > greater spirits > 4 great spirits (pretty much the strongest spirit in each land so only 1 of each)
Puck had the title Beast of the End at first and after defeating Melakuera he took the spot for great spirit of fire from him in the kingdom of lugunica
and yeah frozen bonds started roughly 7years before the anime began
      400years ago = witches era
~100years agp = emilias past (the flashback episode)
      ~7years ago = frozen bond
      then anime start

26:24 “Emilia’s mom and dad dead, confirmed. Okay.” Hmm… I don’t actually know, as I haven’t read the novels, but I think it’s dangerous to interpret Fortuna’s words as meaning Pandora killed them. Death isn’t the only reason why Pandora needs to apologize to Emilia’s parents. I mean, she could have hurt them, banished them, sealed or imprisoned them away somewhere, gave them an incurable disease, made life hell for them… there can be several possibilities. When you make black and white assumptions like that, it could hamper later theorycrafting as the story develops.
Just as you theorized, I also thought that Puck could be Fortuna reborn as a spirit because of his ice magic, the way he calls Emilia by the same pet name “Lia,” by how much he loves her, and how he told her that he had been searching for her for a long time. It’s interesting that you mention the fight between Puck and Betelgeuse/Petelgeuse because Puck calls him a human, but here in these memories, Betelgeuse is identified as a Spirit (which would explain his long life and how Beatrice would could have known of him when he was still sane and gentle). So it’s either the author changing things up and forgetting about his original words, or perhaps it could be that either Puck is not Fortuna and thus doesn’t know Betelgeuse is a spirit, or Puck is Fortuna, but doesn’t have all her memories so has forgotten that Betelgeuse is a spirit.
All that being said, it could also be explained that Puck is not Fortuna, but maybe even her real father reincarnated as a Spirit. Emilia’s whole family may have just called her “Lia,” so it could be any member of her family, if we go the reincarnation route.

Yep its true that it could be multiple things, does not have to be death.
However if you think about it like this:
the way people were talking about her real partents were as if something bad happened. so death is a likely possibility.
They never once visited Emilia in all the time she was living with Fortuna. Could also be something different but them not visiting and Fortuna not telling Emilia (and not wanting Geuse to tell her anything) would also really support that.
So yes it could be other things but it is fairly likely that they are dead.
Also she was called the Witches daughter already. And if you finished season 2 already you know that its confirmed later on that a certain someone knows emilias parents which means that Emilias parents are 400years old and her mother died at that time. So its very likely confirmed here already that atleast 1 of her parents are dead (witches daughter = mother had to be a witch and they all died 400years ago besides satella which was sealed)
If you watched s2 and the frozen bond movie its also known by that point that Puck is 400years old since he is contracted to Echidna. Which means its impossible for him to be Fortuna since he was alive 300years before the current flashback is happening where fortuna is also alive and with emilia.
Since puck stated that he was looking for emilia for centuries and all of this time its logically impossible to be fortuna since they were together 100years ago

@@dirtymightmusic5239 Right, although death is a likely possibility, Fortuna’s words doesn’t confirm death. I’m just saying that until we see more solid proof, we shouldn’t just assume things. If the reactors had said, “This sounds like Pandora may have killed Emilia’s parents,” then it would have been okay. You know in anime that if you don’t actually see a dead body, the person may not really be dead.
I didn’t know Puck was contracted to Echidna. Did they say that in the movie? I must have missed that.

@@wrexgrafix84 oh sure death is not confirmed yet. thats true.
However I am completely fine with assuming things based on something that is likely. Nothing wrong with that imo.
As long as you treat it as a likely guess and not something absolute you can absolutely assume something to be true and go from there. As long as you dont think its 100% fact
It was actually literally the first seconds of the movie :D
I am fairly sure its Echidnas voice actor talking there and the female voice is talking about parts/conditions in pucks contract. I think near the end we see the same thing again.
And if you compare the voice and especially the way the letters are written and in which style you can compare it to season 2 episode 8 at around the 22:30 mark when echidna conforms subaru about his return by death. when she says i know.
exact same style and (imo) already the same voice actor.
There were also other things that gave away that Puck is contracted to Echidna (and more). Some scenes are yet to happen in s2 so in case you or the guys watching the series arent that far yet I wont spoil anything.
Its a certain scene with beatrice that much I can say ^^
edit: yep later on in the fight against the great spirit where they formed a contract you can see the same happening again and atleast to me its fairly clear that it is also the same voice actor there

The "Beetle" part is more like "peterr" with the "R" being really strong and the "juice" is more like "gyu-se" .
