    Good review my friend and I have an LFS i picked up off eBay new without a box for 55 bucks from Debo’s recommendation and man it casts everything from 1/4 to 3/4 ounce etc. like a dream with surgical cast placement and I’m new to the modern Casting Reels with magnetic Brakes. Im glad to see a solid Review of a product that’s been actually time tested and not used once and reviewed trying to sell a product, thank you for that Honesty. Semper Fidelis

    The fact that KVD left Quantum for lews, and has designed seemingly the same exact rods for Lews that he had with Quantum, shows that he really trusts and believes in those rods. I think alot of pros just design rods just to put their name on it.

    • @frankfranzese5594
      @frankfranzese5594 Před 11 měsíci

      And they are lighter weight w lews which is awesome. I had his deep cranking 7 10 rod from quantum. Loved it. But it was heavy

    • @Bulldog_Fishing
      @Bulldog_Fishing Před rokem +1

      @@Riddlemethisgaming absolutely less backlash. You gain the ability to really tune your reel to you. If some else picked it up with your settings, trouble if the cast it.

    • @Riddlemethisgaming
      @Riddlemethisgaming Před rokem

      @@Bulldog_Fishing sorry for asking another question but does that just mean the knob on the right and the 1-10 on the left or is it the ones that have the cap on that u have to take the brakes off..like all of mine just have the knob and the 1-10 thing

    • @Bulldog_Fishing
      @Bulldog_Fishing Před rokem

      @@Riddlemethisgaming Good question. The knob on the right is a tension knob which does control some unspooling of the reel, however the brakes provide better control at higher forces when actually casting. The 1-10 is the magnetic brakes and can only provide a limited amount of control as magnets only have so much "attrability" to the metal around them. Centrifugal brakes (under the cap) apply more pressure the faster they spin, thus providing better control through out the casting process. Most anglers will go half on and half off until they get familiar with the braking system, then slowly turn off one or two for better, longer cast without backlashes.

    I've never backlashed my Speed Spool LFS, it's a great reel. I'm sure the KVD is as well. The knobs are definitely an upgrade. Those crappy, oddly shaped, slick knobs are my only complaint with the Speed Spool. I had to replace them with the Lew's winn knobs for $40, so might as well just get the KVD.

    I bought a Lew's KVD reel from the outlet at Bass Pro in Springfield at a deep discount. I wasn't looking for another reel but couldn't pass it up. It is a very nice reel for all the reasons you mentioned. It also looks sharp in the maroon color. I have found it to cast far and retrieve smoothly. The only dilemma I have is there are really nice reels from Daiwa and Shimano in or near the $150 price range.

    I use little to no braking. I learned to throw a baitcaster before there was a such thing as centrifugal braking on a reel, and I guess that's why. I usually run my drag to almost a free fall, and my magnetic is usually very low too, very rare do I go above 20 percent. Usually centrifugal is completely off.

    I think the extra money for the reel is worth it also. You can't add the dual breaking system onto the cheaper reel so you will have buyers' remorse if you don't get the better reel initially. The TJ81 discount at Karls is pretty nice too since you get a free month of Karls to save even more than the $10 discount for the reel. I really like how well this reel casts. My favorite part of the reel is the color of the reel. I know it doesn't help me catch fish but I like the color of the reel a lot. It is pretty awesome and when you pair it with the KVD rod, you can't help but feel good about the purchase.

    TackleJunky but not a TackleSnob. Nice.
    Complete agree about the extra control on the dual braking system. I recently bought a Maverick casting reel and it could benefit from it. The spool is super free floating and will spin lightning fast. So I found that I have to use more than twice as much spool tension and braking on that reel than I need to on other reels. It was a bit tricky to set up initially but is a great casting reel.

    Bearings, bearings, blah blah blah....my @$$.
    I have a damn Abu Garcia 5500C3 and a 6500C4 that I got in the damn late 80's-early 90's and they fish SALTWATER for Spec's and Redfish, drum, whiting, Pompano, sharks, Sheepsheads, and whatever else I can get a hook into.
    In nearly 35 years of ownership, Ive replaced the PAWL once, all the bearings, and drag washers with carbon-fiber washers.
    Those reels and sitting on my left side, In a drawer, wrapped up, cleaned and oiled, and ready for my next trip down to Padre Island.
    You people out there spend too much and buy crap. You focus on bearing count and not true quality.
    Grumble, mumble, mumble, grumble.......wheres my dang coffee cup? Anyone seen my glasses? I need to take my pills.

    That’s the difference in a bass fisherman and a steelhead and salmon angler. “I really don’t care what kind of specs it has, if I like it I like it”. Try to land a chinook with a nylon framed reel. Start catching big fish, you’ll start paying very close attention.
