Very professional!! but I just wanted to tell you that I was completely blown away was not expecting it. But the way you talk about all these different things and how you get into it. You did well expanding on the ergonomics of the reel and how the handle grips are subjective to personal preference , but I believe you did not go very in-depth into the performance of the reel , weightless baits , accuracy , casting into the wind , weighted bait sweet spots for the reel ie. does it excel at 1/4 - 1/2 for example. Also its performance vs the competition at the price point, what the manufacturer warranty and customer service experience ,should you have to call them. Just something to think about.

I got Lew's Custom Speed Spool(model: CG1XH) for $100 back in July. I was hunting for a reel to get myself for my birthday(on 7/11) and they had only one left on display. I inspected it and determined it to be just fine for me to get. I negotiated toe 100$, since it was a display. The BEST reel I have ever used. I love this thing. I have it paired with a Duckett Silverado 7-0 MH(also bought on sale at a different time). This combo is LIGHT and sensitive. I really enjoy fishing with it.

So, what I heard from a rep about the KVD was this: Kevin took the Lew's Tournament Pro LFS Casting Reel ($199) and said he wanted that reel at a better price, so they downgraded the handle, and they downgraded the spool and said "there you go!"
I haven't bought one but I think they're great and I probably will pick one up.

If that were true, then they would have the same braking system. They do not. The Tournament Pro LFS has the ACB centrifugal brakes while the KVD reel has the MSB system with magnetic and centrifugal brakes. I'm personally not a fan of magnetic brakes, so the kvd reel would be good for people who aren't sure what their preference is.

Hey, Debo's. KVD worked for Quantum before Lew's. All this reel is a Quantum KVD reel with a twist. Basically the same color, size, weight and ratios. Even the price is close to the same. You can pick up a Quantum KVD reel on EBay for half the price of the new Lew's. The only differents. I see is the extra brake system. So people don't be fooled that this is really something new. When it just a rehash of the Quantum KVD reel. I would buy a Quantum ACCURIST PT S3 reel with a flipping switch. Which is a very good baitcaster for less money 7 to 1 ratio. Got mine during a Christmas sale for $89.00. Great video Debo's. Lew's are good reel's. Hiller's uses them all the time. Shawn.

That's because until the past year all of their baitcasters had the pinion supported with nothing but plastic, let alone the fact theyve always used plastic frames in reels over $100, with these more recent models having aluminum frames at reasonable prices and using the p2 double bearing supported pinion in all their best reels it's like they've finally realized how they can actually provide the value they claim, until this shimano and daiwa have always had more to offer at ever price point but now with this much reel under $150 things are gonna heat up

I have a curado I, chronarch 200E7 and a slx and it’s not near as smooth as any of them. Now the chronarchs might could get close to outcasting the bb1 but not by much. But with how well my bb1 freespools I don’t think it’s physically possible to outcast it by much. And the retrieve is so a smooth you can flick it and it’ll spin the handle around about 10 times before it stops

I want to hear all the little pet peeves you have with the CT because that's how we can get an honest review.

exact same reel as the Lew's tournament MP LFS from a year earlier, only they put KVD's name and color on it, and gave it the EVA knobs... that being said, OUTSTANDING reel! love mine and will definitely get in more gear ratios, AND also comes in 5:1 as well as the other 3 gear ratios. Also, a bit on the dual brakes for whomever will listen. It's about MORE adjustability, the magnetics are for more on harder casts and help more at the end of the cast to help feather the lure in , where centrifugal are more at the beginning of the cast to even the amount of speed from the initial snap of the cast, then work physically throughout the entire cast. great viDEBO!

I just picked up the custom speed spool and I don’t even think it has the p2 pinion gear but it’s still a hell of a reel. Especially matched up with the new tp1x rod!

So Debo, do you have a favorite casting reel? My current favorite is Tatula Elite. You've fished with a bunch so just curious. Thanks for all the good content brother.

I'd like your opinion on sixgill fishing reels... specifically the crius and hamarr. Both are excellent reels. I'd say the typhoon or Hyperion (personal favs) but they're undergoing an update

    • @aarondavis8224
      @aarondavis8224 Před 3 lety

@@theangleraquarist Ive considered it especially since the TP1X doesnt have micro guides, the only thing I dont like is the painted blank. I dont care if the lower half is painted but I think paint on the tip hurts the sensitivity of the rod.

I think its pretty awesome. Great gear ratios and best of both world mag and centrifical brakes. Pretty cool the marked the centrifical brakes. Im one of those guys that contacted you and you helped. The bait keeper is pretty sweet.

I just started fishing and I have some entry level combos but I plan on getting something nice, Lews are so nice but I dont know all the companies yet. I have a cheap Shakespeare baitcaster combo that I learned on, a Abu Garcia black max spinning reel setup and I just got Abu black max baitcaster reel that in going to out on a Abu rod.

Shape of this looks identical to my Hypermag and it seems to have better features. Considering my Hypermag is a 300 dollar reel, I'm impressed. The hypermag doesn't have any pinion gear support, it only has variable centrifugal brakes ( although I prefer it ), but the entire body is magnesium and sideplates are carbon fiber, so its light as hell. The spool is also very light and ported so it casts light lures really well.
All and all I think this looks like a good offering. I'm impressed. I'd still probably take an SLX MGL over it though, it's only 10 dollars more and Shimano is just sooo much smoother.

Glad you posted this...I haven’t had time to fish with it but once and I have the GC4(7’MH) matching rod also no catches yet but they both feel really good. The only thing I’m regretting is going with a RH retrieve, all my others are LH and I chose an expensive setup to switch it up lol

Dude I've used quantum reels growing up and the KVD series was top notch I even still use my KVD quantum reels because they're great.
I love that with Lew's the standard KVD promotes of affordable but durable under his name still holds true
I might have to retire my quantum KVD series reels for the new Lew's KVD series reels, the only thing I don't like is the eva foam handles on his reels and rods I'm a huge fan of winn grips and it'll be the only thing I change on one of the Lew's KVD reels!

I'd use that reel but Id wait until it went on sale for around $100. Anything over $100 is too costly for me. It has great features but I doubt I'd use the inside breaking system too often but I would definitely use the hook hanger frequently.

Good review. As usual, we end up learning about 3 or 4 different products with each of these reviews which expands our knowledge in two directions; in depth facts about the subject and parallel/comparable info about the competition. Helps answer so many questions in a short amount of time. Your efforts are truly appreciated. 👍

Great overview and review as always Debo. Good job.
So I'm not motivated much by KVD anymore than I'm motivated by Luke Combs pushing a special brand of Crocs shoes. I don't begrudge them using their Fame to open up a new line of revenue for themselves via a sponsorship but it doesn't motivate me.
The reel does seem to have some good characteristics. I use the Lew's Speed Spool LFS Inshore (for about 4 years) nd the newer Lew's Custom Inshore (for about 2 years), and the Lew's Custom Inshore inshore adds the dual braking system. It is quite nice and you have to see it as a compound brake, meaning you can set a coarse adjustment with the centrifugal brakes and then within that particular range you can adjust a fine adjustment adding and subtracting using the mag. So it's not like you have to open the reel multiple times a day to adjust that inner centrifugal brake. I mean if you're going to go from throwing a Top Dog walking lure and then go right to a Ned rig on the same combo then yeah you're probably going to have to make a change on the inner brake, but there's so many other things that go into those two types of fishing, such as rod choice, that means you're not going to be doing that on an everyday basis, every other hour. For any given combo, though I'm glad that I can go in and adjust that centrifugal and then adjust in and around the centrifugal with the mag, I rarely do that often on the water.
It's a good price point for an aluminum frame with a great range of adjustment on that brake system. I'd be interested in trying the Eva paddles. My LFS has the classic "combat grip" paddles and my Custom Inshore has the winn grips. I definitely like the combat style and shape but the Eva might make it a little bit more grippy than the plastic. I'll have to check it out as it could be a happy medium.
I don't know if you buy the reels you test or if they loan them to you but I'd love to see a review of the Pro Ti if you haven't already done one.
