My late uncle Tony (Kelly) loved this song so much. I remember him mimicking Smokey with the same mannerisms in this video. Thank you Smoke for the memories, they are embedded in my heart forever.

I was 5 when I first heard this song. It played constantly on our top 40 station in 1987. I was a very musical kid and so even that young I would sit for hours recording these songs on cassette tapes from the radio including this song. Loved it then, Love it Now.

What makes him a legend more than anything, is that even at 80 plus years old, he's still writing and recording new music. He is truly about that life! They don't make them like him anymore. He's one of the last forefathers of the era, when you had to be the TOTAL PACKAGE (Being able to sing, dance, write, produce, arrange, tour, entertain, and most importantly... DELIVER), if you wanted to have a successful and enduring career, and he's survived through lot's and still smiles through it all. His gifts are unmatched, even by today's so called artist's. Furthermore, unlike many of his peers, he doesn't see the need to trash the new age talent. He infact, tries to mentor them, and show them the tricks of the trade so they don't have to go through the drama, he's gone through in the business. He, unlike many of his peers, is not intimidated by the new generation, because he knows that, not just them, but possibly their parents and even grandparents, were concieved to his timeless music. So that's why many of today's artists, seek him out, to pick his brain, because he's one of the few remaining and very active forefathers of popular music who's willing to share and pass on his priceless knowledge.

i could remember falling asleep to this song on repeat, FOR YEARS. I use to fantasize about having my first boyfriend, mom was very strict. I taught my 3 year old day care child the lyrics to One Heart Beat for our talent show and she nailed every word every emotion. She had a temperature of 103 but cried to her parents that she must go perform One Heart Beat. She performed and received a standing ovation. We practiced every year for the coming years talent show.My babies were special, exceptional, many reading at the age of 3-5 years. Now my babies are all grown up. I hope their children are singing One Heart Beat or any song by Smokey. Miss my babies.

1987 was a difficult year for me, I had just got out of a psych hospital, an upscale facility- very nice, but re- entering society in april of that year. Songs like this one really put me over a hard time. As well as alot of gospel....well, its a distant memory, better now and still love hearing this tune today.
