    For a beginner i would suggest turning the tension spool knob all the way to maximum. This way, using your thumb isn't critical and you won't get any backlash.

    • @anglermattoutdoors
      @anglermattoutdoors  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@CleosetricVlyers yea it won’t cast as far but it’s a good way to get the feel of it while not worrying about backlashes. If you set your brakes all the way up or close to it and get your spool tension up as well, you can start that way. I personally think you can get the feel of it pretty quick without doing that but it depends person to person. 👍🏼

      Start off with heavier lures. Practicing casting a sinker is great. When you get into larger or more lightweight lures that are affected by wind, you have to have a very subtle touch and quick reactions. The sinker will take line out at a steady pace and a good way to start.

    Ive been told. The spool tension needs to only be tight enough to keep the spill from moving side to side. Then it’s the magnet system.
    Magnet to slow the spool release. And something not mentioned here is you need to stop the spool from spinning just prior to lure hitting the water. Otherwise it’s not a nice ending. If the lure hits the water and you didn’t stop the spool you will have a mess.
    It’s a finesse thing for sure.

    im a complete beginner with baitcasters (wanted to try something new), so first days went as expected, me swearing the reel brand, seller and mostly brakes for backlashing all over the place... but as time went on i figured its not a brakes problem, its NOT BEING SMOOTH, if you yanking it back and forth spinning reel will forgive it, but baitcaster will give you a bad time... also, when first getting to water, crank those brakes up, im excited for a fishing, all hyped up i know i will go hard... after a few casts brakes are not that important, you can turn them down, and as long as you smoothly load up the rod with roll and release you can cast across the lake :) still... cant say i'm not getting backlashes, i still count myself as a beginner, but my point is i figured out that brakes are not as important as being smooth

    Great vide mate, thanks, been using baitcaster for 2 years now, and learned lots in these few minutes then I did over those 2 years, but can I ask you why Bass fishermen (the ones I follow on YT) never use lure clips, just cut line and re-tie instead and waste line, I fish in Europe, mainly for pike, perch and trout, and also we use wire or "floor" traces.

      I loaded it with 50lb and think I've gone too strong. I soon got used to capacity of the reels when I tried changing the spool and it would not come out - over filled! The braid I used was just some Firebriad I have had for a while intend to try some dry land casting with a small lead first. The overhead cast tip was great I'd not have done it that way!@@anglermattoutdoors

    • @anglermattoutdoors
      @anglermattoutdoors  Před 27 dny

      yea the smaller the diameter the better its going to cast. braid is the best for casting also because it doesnt have that tackiness that mono and fluoro have. Fluoro is better casting that mono because its thinner as well.

    • @anglermattoutdoors
      @anglermattoutdoors  Před 9 měsíci

      You probably need to tighten your brakes a bit if it’s back lashing in the beginning of the cast

  • @craigdefrain5607
    @craigdefrain5607 Před měsícem

    Yeah my biggest problem is using my thumb i think lol. Im pressing to hard on the line before the cast is complete almost pulling the jig or whatever lure back from my own thumb tension. But if i dont use my thumb it will lash anys. I have tension all the way up pretty much and the brake up too so idk its either me or this cheap lews classic i got 😅

    • @anglermattoutdoors
      @anglermattoutdoors  Před měsícem

      Could just be a practice thing that you will get better at but I will say baitcasters are different than spinning reels in that there is a big difference between the cheaper stuff and the nicer reels. Because the reel itself aids in casting, you will have a much different experience. The spool tension knob and the brakes don’t make as big of a difference when tweaking them on the cheaper reels. The spool just doesn’t spin and freely and smooth as the nicer stuff does
