  • In this episode of Sailing Zephyr - SAILING LIFE - Trouble in Paradise as our TINY HOME leaks - we set off for the Mediterranean. With just James and I left to do the crossing, we plan our 7 day trip to Cadiz, Spain.
    Little did we know, but what lay ahead is big BIG seas and a non stop winds of 25+ knots that left us longing for land. Things took a turn for the worst when our stanchion bases started leaking and there was a huge amount of saltwater dripping in!
    We make it to Cadiz, albeit, we both look like walking zombies and are starving for some Spanish food. We get to enjoy the beautiful city of Cadiz before heading off to cross the Gibraltar Strait.
    Enjoy the video!

    You both done really well. An uneventful Atlantic crossing and a few trips beyond that. Congratulations on your intro to sailing ⛵️. I’m sure that you both will continue to learn as you sail in difficult conditions. May fair winds always be in your sails. Much love to you both ❤️

      Thanks Korka. It was a sad day for our mate. But hopefully it provides some insight into how mistakes can happen and provides a lesson. Stoked you watched the whole video. Nat is definitely the genius video editor. I'm shocking! hahaha

    Looked like a great time to have a seat on the Bow and let the legs hang down while surfing into the waves. The dolphins love swimming in front of the Bow enjoying the thrust! 🐬 🐬 🐬 🐬 🐬

    Has anyone suggested using butyl tape when rebedding deck hardware such as stantions? Works much better than sealant

    • @SailingZephyr
      @SailingZephyr  Před 4 lety

      Hey Sue. You’re spot on. We are going to use Butyl tape as part of our stanchion rebedding project. Please let me know if you have any other great ideas

    Conditions horrible ? Sailing on one ta,ck sun is out, making 7 kt, day upon day , sounds ideal to me .

    I +1 Sue's comment on using Butyl tape for sealing deck hardware. I have been using it for the past 10 years and have not had anything that I sealed with it start leaking (knock wood!) here is a link to a great how-to document on using it properly. marinehowto.com/bed-it-tape/ I had also noticed the rust at your stanchions. Did you use 306 stainless steel bolts?

    • @SailingZephyr
      @SailingZephyr  Před 4 lety

      We are definitely getting the Butyl tape. Lots of people suggesting it. The rust is annoying in stanchions. All the hardware for the stanchions is from Beneteau.

      Hoosier Boy obviously you haven’t watched many sailing videos. They all average around 20 minutes.
