- SCP 049 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Plague Doctor.
SCP-049 is a humanoid entity, roughly 1.9 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a medieval plague doctor.
SCP049 will become hostile with individuals it sees as being affected by the Pestilence, often having to be restrained should it encounter such. If left unchecked, SCP-049 will generally attempt to kill any such individual.

I honestly felt sorry for 049 when the security guard ignored his request for ice cream, sometimes you’ll have a nicer day with a dangerous yet polite man rather than a relatively harmless but rude person.

Honestly, I think SCP-049 should be allowed to animate corpses in a controlled environment, where his work can be supervised to ensure it's done safely. It's heavily implied that "The Pestilence" is death itself, reviving the dead _is_ his cure, and that the whole zombie thing is actually a flaw in the cure that he's trying to work out. I believe it would be in everyone's best interest that he be allowed to perfect his cure as quickly as possible.
nah its not death this theory has long been debunked, still not confirmed source of what he is curing but based on all his interaction with foundation and D class what he deems as someone carrying the pestilence is some one who challenges the natural order of things and is defiant
in every conversation he has with subjects as he calls them it ends with o49 becoming violent cause his subject is challenging his methodology and his skills, doubting his cure is even a cure at all.
so based on my observations it seems what he is really trying to cure living subjects of is their nature and ability to be afraid of the unknown.

considering how any D-class that survive testing are executed at the end of each month, that would actually be a really useful idea, and (provided his zombies aren't contagious) they could even be used in place of D-class for less complex tests.
I never thought that 049 was like that, before they made him look like someone cold, dangerous and intelligent, but now we know that he does have feelings, dreams, hopes and a heart... and a very good ice cream gu6pir 🍨 . a medal 🏅 for 999 for that gift
Actually there are many videos where he has warm hearted moments. He is awesome. I would be quirky too if I was locked in a cell.
I think before they made him more comfy so to say with the deal he was more resistant to the efforts of the SCP my thought is why don’t they make a specialized room so 049 can safely revive creatures and once down he gets moved back to his room

999 cheering the doc up was more emotionally charging than almost any modern day movie/tv show
I'm sure if the Foundation could convince him about another dangerous disease he would happily try to help find a cure for that as well. He could be very valuable with his knowledge, and seemingly infinite supply
He seems to be set on a goal and unreasonable sometimes as is shown with the multiple times he has killed guards and researchers that brought him food or subjects because they had alot of pestilence inside them and he won't explain what the pestilence is because he thinks they already know and that it is common knowledge

Well, actually it happens
On 049 story in the "When day breaks" scenario he pays no more attention on the pestilence but instead focus on trying to cure the condition of humans affected by 001, being close to a cure at least in the first experiment, but loses her friend Fernand being him in the end a true hero against the monstruosity of 001.

Literally one of the only original SCP's that I genuinely think has good intentions (which these videos definitely help solidify xD) besides of course Cain and 343 and 999 as a few other examples.

I really do enjoy this "a day in the life of" series you seem to be doing. Especially the question of what part of their routine we would incorporate into our own. For me, from 049 I'd probably adopt this division of meals by type for each part of the day. Seems like a good way to broaden my nutritional intake.

I think he might eat to keep him sane not eating for a hundred years would not be so good on your mental health if you now what I mean but he might still feel the desire to eat maybe not in a way that makes him uncomfortable maybe just the need to taste something or just the satisfaction of it

I can imagine the good bar ice cream company. Getting very angry with the s c p foundation Not because of any anomalous situation. But because doctor bright just keeps constantly stealing their delivery fans. At 1 point probably sending them a letter saying. "Why don't you harass hagingdoss? Seriously what has our company ever done to you people? If this is about us removing the chaco taco from the menu We will put it back if you will just stop harassing our delivery trucks."
Not gonna lie I was ready to drop everything, research and build a functioning wormhole/portal gun and commandeer an ice cream van of my own in order to burst into the SCP universe and deliver an ice cream to the good Doctor if nobody there had sorted one out for him! If I were in the scp foundation I would want to visit 049 daily. He seems like a genuinely nice guy.
I feel like he was cursed to find a cure for something that either has no cure, or doesn't even exist. If he ever would find a cure then the curse would be broken, which will kill him.
And nobody is surprised that Bright stole an Ice Cream Van, at this point I'd bet he does this every so often.

I felt so bad seeing 049 being left out of the ice cream party, 999 truly is the best SCP. The sad part is the plague doctor genuinely seems to have good intentions and trying to help those around him, ofc the foundation’s reason for keeping him contained is reasonable since it takes a touch to kill the people around him and how he is too set on “curing people” to let others interfere with his work. My question is, if it’s his touch that the foundation fears, couldn’t they lock some gloves on his hands to prevent him from killing during his time outside?
The council probably couldn't take up with the risks the plague doctor may provided even with special resistment.

I do feel a bit sorry for the Plague Doctor. I do believe his heart is in the right place. It's just a shame his cure is lethal for humans. Also 999 is truly the greatest. He helps no matter who or what it is.

Its nice that hes one of the few anonymous that actually has more then one emotion. Makes me think that there actually is a pestilence that can be cured. That would be interesting to see if one day he finally prefects his cure.
I cannot fathom the thought of how alone he feels. I understand for safety of others and how dangerous his touch is. However if you see this, could you include him more often? In safe precautions of course. For an example, being on the other side of the glass. Much like SCP-507 and SCP-999 had interacted with him? Also save some ice cream for the doctor too, please and thank you.

I feel bad for the plague doctor. I think the pestilence he seeks to cure is death itself. Has anyone made a concerted effort to really understand what the pestilence is to him? Since, if his end goal is to cure death, but the hang-ups are the fact that he ends up with brainless zombies instead of properly sapient beings, then I would really like to see him keep working so long as he vows not to use the zombies to damage or break containment.
The researchers have tried to understand what the pestilence it's, but to 049 it's so obvious that he won't or can't explain it.
It can't be death because the plague doctor said the plague it's only in humans I think it could be pain if you want to know more check scp-5000 cause it says that humans were not ment to feel pain and it is a kind of food to a brain worm kind of thing animals could feel pain but not have the worm
The pestilence may be whatever caused the scp foundation to try and wipe out humanity in the events of scp 5000, as that is also shown to be what causes scp 682 to hate sentient life.

he starts his day bright and early, sometimes he likes to sleep in and dream about creating a new universe but instead he will settle for playing the sims 4 with all the expansion packs. he then spends about 5 hours creating and furnishing a world and trolling people who ask if god is omnipotent, can he create a rock so heavy that he cannot lift it buy replying in ancient satanic summoning rituals, to make small tiny demons emerge randomly and tickle peoples feet untill they fall off their chair. he then decides tp remake the fabric of the universe and (redacted) meaning of (redacted), the age old question that is answered by (redacted). with all this (redacted) suddenly solved, all the scientists go and try to solve the question about that one weird scp that summons feet tickling demons. (or so ive heard, ask 343 yourself)

The part where SCP-999 gives ice cream to 049 is the most goddamn wholesome thing I have ever seen.
Surely if 049 put on a sort of Hazmat gloves over his hands/gloves it would prevent him from making physical contact with other researchers, and then he would be able to leave his cell.

The issue is that he can take it off anytime. They gotta be locked on him at all times.
Maybe he could be allowed in the Canteen every once in a while, with anyone else there taking the necessary precautions with protective clothing?
But it would still be terrifying to be touched by him. Seeing how he can kill you. So no wonder that person was scared.
One thing I find rather interesting about 049 is how he on many occasions is more polite than many other Euclid class anomalies
in a previous video he successfully removed the pestilence and reanimated a live mosquito without removing it's sentience, he just needs live subjects that he isn't allowed to kill
This is my absolut Favorite scp. I Do believe that the good doctor only has the utmost best intrest for humanity on his mind. His thinking is just something we cant understand yet.
There is a theory which also concerns scp 5000 and 682, where supposedly humans are not supposed to ferl pain, but due to an entity which lives in all of us sort of like voldemort did in harry, we do feel it, and it lives off of it. The worst part is that when we die, we are sent to a place where we feel even more pain and the creature grows ever more powerful. 682 know this and its the reason for which it finds humans disgusting, and it is theorised that the entity is also "the pestilence" and for now the best thing 049 can do is to kill the victim and revive it without a thinking brain so that the entity is no longer in them
The thing is, SCP 049 doesnt really want to kill unless it is for research. But other than that he is a very humble and friendly entity to have a chat to from time to time.
You should make a animation about when 049 figures out the cure to the pestilence. I think that'd be really interesting!

It would be interesting to be a watcher/companion to 049. A safe side chamber with a desk and comfortable chair. I'm fairly certain once he became used to the constant companion he would be amenable to answering questions occasionally. Especially if the companion was not a doctor and the questions came across as someone wishing to be taught.
At the very least Doc would have a guest to eat with.

I think 049 is my favorite scp, he actually seems like a pretty nice guy. there are so many scp's that are just killing machines it makes the ones that aren't, like 049, just another murder monster, and that black statue that just jumpscares you seem so much more interesting.

I love the nice SCPs. I had a great time with the "When Day Breaks" episode where you follow the Plague Doctor's attempts to find a cure
049 is actually one of my favorite SCPs. Just because he is not necessarily an evil creature. He is a sincere doctor and scientist, trying to find a cure for a dangerous illnesses (which nobody else knows about). But it's his methods and means to finding the cure that make him dangerous.
He doesn't mean harm, but causes it anyway.
A whole ice cream truck- damn thats a great achievement, 049 is a kind boi tbh, he just wants to help cure diseases, I would give him a hug from his hard work if touching me wouldn’t end up as death

Dude I would go out of my way to make 049 feel valued and respected. Would sit outside and converse at lunch. For everything he is pleasant
If I worked at the SCP-Foundation, I would work at whatever sector 049 is in and stay closest to him. I would frequently talk to him and give him extra privileges.
049 is a good man at heart and I would like the foundation to look for ways to "unkillify" his touch so he can partake in everyday activities alongside other personnel.
It would be cool to have him walk around the foundation on special occasions, so that he can meet other personnel and scps
But he has the kill-with-a-touch ability so it would be VERY DANGEROUS

i love how 999 got a bunch of ice creams either because A) he is a precious bean and deserves all the happiness and joy he could ever want or B) he already intended to give them most or all away to help people because, once again, he is the greatest thing in existence. or C) which might actually be most likely, he was given multiple to enjoy for himself but he would easily and without hesitation give them all away if he sensed someone needed one.

Can I just say. Scp 049 deserves better. Such a good natured and well mannered man. He’s just trying to help people, and while volitile sometimes. It’s not his fault. I would be honored to be cured if I had the pestilence. For an organization that claims to be “cold not cruel” they seem unreasonably disturbed by sacrifice for the greater good. The more I learn about 049 the more I start to agree with 682 about the foundation being evil

I have to be honest. I was expecting the doctor to have a game of chess with one of the employees through the glass. It just seems like a past time the doctor would gravitate towards. It would certainly keep him more grounded and would be a great way for him to have more contact with people or test subjects.
The interaction between 049 and 999 was so wholesome
This made me wonder - how would certain SCPs do with a TV system in their room? Would it boost their morale? Give them something more to be aware about?
