In French Guiana, illegal gold mining has been thriving for decades. Fuelled by clandestine workers from neighbouring Suriname and Brazil, this criminal enterprise has reached near-industrial proportions, destroying thousands of hectares of precious rainforest. But lately, the French armed forces have been cracking down on this illegal activity. FRANCE 24's Nicolas Pouillot reports on their efforts.
A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Florence Viala.

......so in late 1800s here in Victoria Australia it happens that Melbourne was the richest city in the world due to gold prospectors finding lots of gold . of course the miners needed to have an official licence to stake their claims .At some point their was a rebellion which ended in the 'Eureka stockade' and government British troops bayonetted to death I think 12 miners who were manning the barricades. Those troopers in red uniform were trained killers who'd had plenty experience killing people in India . I think technically the law states it's illegal to mine or pick the resource of the land without a prospectors licence , it could be tin ore or copper ore or amethyst crystal or gold etc. .

Does people's opinion on the presence of your armies in foreign land really matter? so if 90% of world population believe your presence is bad, will you move out? how about French population, when will they ever get a referendum on this issue?
