I completed the quest to find the Chest of Legends and then I buried it and everything that I collected along the quest on the island. When I returned to the game a day later, I received a notification that someone had found my loot and the amount of reputation I received was CATASTROPHICALLY LOW. I don’t understand why I should bury treasures and leave the map if it’s 20,000% worse than bringing the loot to the outpost.
My personal theory is the board was added for new players more than the average player. Since when it was added voyages still cost gold. So being able to get an alright amount of gold from a free, simple and fast quest is great for newer players with very limited gold. It also offers a very diverse loot table including treasure for all three base factions, great for getting early level ups. Of course voyages are free now and are way better than the quest board. So if it is going to stay it should probably get some fairly sizable changes.
I try to contribute to the board. When I'm solo, I like to bury hoards of whatever emissaries I'm not running. If someone digs up your loot, you get rep for it. When I play with my crew, we often empty our inventories to cannon off to the islands that we're passing, grab as many supplies as possible, and go back to the ship. Sometimes we come across things on the way and bury them to post at the end of the night.
I mean, why would anyone bury treasure when they could sell it? There has to be an incentive to do it. For example: if you bury a treasure instead of selling it you get double the reputation and gold when someone digs it and turns it in. There would be a risk of the server getting merged and the map being loat, but also a bigger rewards for posting the map in the quest board. I don't know, just a wild idea.
i hate cursed chests so i often bury them and but them on the quest board, idk if people would be happy to find a chest of eternal sorrows while digging but i wouldnt.
very well made video, basically said all the things I’d want to say about the quest board, I feel like it has the potential to be way cooler but for now it’ll be for mid loot and hiding unwanted treasure I guess
A while ago I tried the board, hoping to find reaper's treasures (since that's what I always burry, and if I remember I'll post it on the board). Just like you, I only got absolute garbage, and always the same stuff that noone would actually burry. Like, 2 chalices, and burried at opposite ends of a large island? No. Imo they should probably either be completely random (like Meg loot, I think), or they should be weighted towards specific, worthwhile items - Reaper's chests, cursed chests, maybe a small chance for the super valuable chests like (ashen) chest of legends, chest of ancient tribute and chest of fortune, since those do often get hidden/burried by players as well. Then you could also mix in stuff like barnacled chests and maybe even a unique treasure obtainable only through bounties - doesn't need to be valuable, as long as there is a commendation attached that people want. Basically, if you dig up 5 maps, you should *at minimum* get one item you are excited about.
You say the board gives no gold for posting maps-- but would like to see if that's tested more. IIRC from the original trailer or video where they showed off the feature when it was new, they explained posting the maps actually gives some additional gold for you when someone else digs it up. (And if that takes too long to happen I think it just happens anyway) So just as you got some rep when you logged back in-- I'd give a look at your gold after you log out and when you log back in to see if it changes. I haven't tested this myself cause I was just trying the video for all this time, but if it really doesn't give gold it'd be good to know for sure.
Dog ... not tryna say anything about stuff being useless but money is money dude it doesn't matter those are for people who don't want crews and probably do things alone
I can see that, but i also think it would be more satisfying for those people if they dug up something cool and shiny rather than a pot and wood crate. Treasure maps are also gold hoarder voyages so if they like finding loot, they can also do that. I wish the quest board was actually more random so that the loot was surprising or exciting.
It's not about the gold...it's about the commendations!

Barnacled Loot. These quests are all about that 20% chance to dig up a piece of barnacled loot with every new dig.
Some barnacled chests though
I've found reaper trinkets and reaper chests on more than one occasion

You get like 4x the season rep for it
Only good at start of season

Thanks for bringing this up 😅
I try to burry a decent treasure every session, last one were 7 Captains chests at Sea Dogs Rest.
most likely no one will dig them up
Keep grinding bro. Let’s make this dream a reality 🔥😜💯
That's basically how it felt to do an OG Athena

Completely agree, that'd be much better

This man deserves more subs.
Need it for the party boat
Do you know what else is useless? Harry
Trueeeee
How many quest board maps did you end up completing for this video? And do you remember getting any humble gifts...? 🤔
I think i did around 50 maps that had 1-3 pieces of treasure each. I didnt get any humble gifts tho
