- This piece of Cherry defines my woodturning as much or better than anything I've turned before. The nature in this piece is magnificent! I removed just enough to make it look like a bowl and left enough to let the beautiful nature show through. I'm very proud of this piece and consider it my best work.

This piece is so exceptional in person. I don't think I captured that in the video. It's absolutely gorgeous! 😊
Phil, that is simply incredible! It looks like slate rock that chipped in square patterns. It's kinda like all the different types of beaches combined into one flowing island! Great work!
Wow, thanks, David! 👍😁
Phil what I appreciate about your work is as much what you don’t do to your pieces as what you do. This is exquisite. Fantastic!
This one is exquisite. I've had it prominently displayed since I turned it, years ago. It has a great story, I knew exactly what to do with it and it actually worked out and it's just a very beautiful piece of wood. It's one of my very favorites, I'm glad you like it, too! 😊
I may have said it before but, I love your approach to your 'work' Phil. Do only what you must to produce a bowl, a vase etc & then leave the rest to Mother Nature. It has served you well in the videos that I have watched before & WILL continue to serve you well in the future. Watching the woodturning of yourself, & a few others similar to you, has become the third 'love of my life' with my disability after my lovely wife & my 'drop dead' gorgeous German Shepherd girl. I look forward to MANY more pleasurable times viewing your videos.
I love that you understand my approach, Donald! You are quite right about it. Thank you for watching and for your great comment! 😊
Thanks Joe as you contribute to Phil's demonstrations of excellence. This one goes down as hurricane history pieces.
No doubt! 😍
Thank You Phil (thank you Joe from Louisiana) ...(thank you hurricane Katrina...now I have gone too far !!!)
Glad you went with a tenon. I do look forward to the nub, ha. I actually jumped a bit with my headphones on with the Bee, good one!!..Phil this is an excellent show, you and "Cherry" get an award for excellence!!!
TM
I, too, thought the bee was in the room with me at first.
Hahaha! That bee was pretty persistent, Tuffy! This is a once in a great while piece of wood I was fortunate to have the opportunity to turn. I'm really glad you like it, I like it, too!
Phil
LOL!
Taking something from destruction to perfection.
Wonderful.
Yes! Thank you, Paul!
Wonderful, Phil, I love it too. The subtle colours that contrast in the bowl and in the bark.
It's actually exquisite, Richard. I wish you could touch it and hold it. It is one of my very favorites. 😊
I find myself looking for odd pieces to turn now instead of the “norm”. Thank you for the inspiration!!
As it should be, Madonna. I'm glad you figured it out! 😊
Hey Phil, That piece is amazing. Very beautiful wood. Leaving as much nature as possible is the best way to do it. I agree with you 100%. Save the nature. Yall have a wonderful day.
😊
Even at 5 minutes and 30 seconds I can tell this is going to be a beautiful bowl. I so enjoy watching your videos. I am watching old videos (new to me!) from 2 and 4 years ago.
Wow, thank you, Elisa! This bowl is just special to me. I love it's history and how it looks like the hurricane just ripped it from the tree. 😄
I agree Phil, you turned a piece of fire wood into an art treasure. I have no idea what price a store would tack onto it but it would be a darn site more then fire wood . Beautiful!!
I have no idea what price it would bring either, Warner but I can tell you, if I was going to sell it, it would be one of my most expensive pieces! 😊
That really is pretty. The characteristics of the wood is outstanding. What a finish. Wow. You definitely did your self proud on this one. Well done my friend. ❤👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀 One of my all time favorites, Steve!
You’re correct Phil it is absolutely GORGEOUS! It is astonishing what you made out of this piece of wood. Awesome piece of functional natural art.
With a cool history, Mary Beth, I love that! 😊
Phil u finally earned your money. U did one fantastic job of keeping the natural glow of this piece of log and yet brought out its beauty with the bowl & finish. Two works collide and delivered something special. I look at the piece and I see the LA swamp & the bowl brings out the hidden beauty just as most people of Louisiana views the swamp. Thanks for sticking with it and give us a wonderful scene of nature. Stay safe friend.
Well, now I want to visit the LA swamp, Kid! Actually, always have wanted to. We see it in movies and TV but I'm sure it can't compare to up close and personal. Thank you, Kid, I'm so glad you like it!
Phil
Thanks Phil.
It amazes me how you can take what looks like a piece of junk and turn it into a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
After watching yours and other turner's vids I don't look at my firewood pile the same.
Thanks, Clint! I'm glad you are looking a little more closely, now. 😊
You're right to be proud of it. Just an old rough piece of wood and you made it into a work of art and got something good out of Hurricane Katrina. Thank you very much for sharing and see you soon.
Well said! At least something good came from that hurricane! Thank you, I'm so glad you like it, too!
Phil..you have a gift for creating beauty as nature intended....I am speechless!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Wow, thank you, Jack, I'm so glad you like it!
One of my FAVS! Well done! leave it as intact as possible! Love the BARK!!
One of my faves too! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop This bowl isn't still available for purchase, is it?
@@boobo3763 I've never sold any of my work. I'd like to but I just don't have time for packing and shipping. Maybe one day I'll have a helper.
Wow Phil, that is undoubtedly a first place winner! Your eye and hand makes Mother Nature so perfect.
Btw, I had your bumble bee buzzing in my left ear twice as I found myself swatting it... thanks for sharing
Wow, thanks, Russ! I hope you didn't hurt your ear trying to swat the bee! LOL!
Really like you style of leaving as much of Mother Nature as you can. I too look for the uniqueness of the wood and try to accentuate it in my turnings.
Beautiful piece!
Thank you very much, Bud! Good for you! 😊
I spent four months in a recliner, hospital, rehab, and am still working on walking. The silver lining was you and your work and your fellow turners’. There is a similarity between getting a really wrecked leg reverted into a working one. Your skill, attention to what the wood was telling you, patience to persist, all that helped as my leg once again became a leg. No fretting, just taking the opportunity to appreciate what you do. Even down to the homemade French fries! Thanks, Phil. You are a sanity saver, too, you know.
Well, that is a loooong convalescence! I'm so glad you are getting better. Slow and easy, you'll get'er done. Thank you, Joanne!
Phil
Really admire your approach to turning wood, that you keep the natural beauty and beast showing. I think it makes the finished piece gorgeous.
Thank you very much, Tina! I'm so glad you like it!
I’ve got to agree with Bryan. Your best yet Phil! Stunning piece with so much character, like the turner. Thanks. 🇨🇦
Wow, thanks, John! I must admit, it is a favorite of mine as well.
Phil
An extraordinary craggy mountains piece. It’s a gorgeous, a beauty!
We agree, Nancy! This is one of my favorites. 😊
As you said, it does define the way you go after it...try to leave it as it is. I really enjoyed the video, thanks Phil.
Glad you enjoyed it, Scott, thank you for watching! 😊
Your skill at getting a beautiful finish is second to none Phil the time you put into sanding reaps Great rewards👍.
Wow, thank you, Kelvin! 😊
Phil. This is a real beauty. It could be one of your best ever. Just enjoy watching you work. I don’t know if you can top this one. Thanks for your work
It is one of my most favorite pieces, Dave! 😊
I think that's my new favourite Phil.
Thank you, David, me too! 😁
One of the most interesting bowls I've ever seen!
Wonderful! Beautiful!
Thank you so much, Linda! One of my favorites! 😊
I think this now qualifies as your best piece yet! It's absolutely amazing what you do with pieces of wood I would just throw in a pile. Going to have to start looking at pieces differently.
Wow, thank you, Harold! I'm so glad you will give some of the odd pieces another look. I'm sure you will be rewarded!
Phil
Looking at that piece of firewood at the beginning Phil I thought no way but your magic turned it into a really gorgeous piece. I see that I am going to have to spend longer on my finishing. Well done Phil
Thank you very much, Barry! It took me a long time to learn patience with the finishing. Mostly we just want to get it done and show somebody, right? LOL!
Fantastic looking piece Phil, excellent work 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you, Mark! Cheers!
Beautiful Turning Phil
Thank you, Raul!
No dislikes!!! Totally understandable. Enjoy your banter & skill explanations. Beautiful natural work. Love it amongst the many sites I watch with envy. Keep up the wonderful work.
So nice of you, Andrew, thank you!
Magnificent, well done, less really is more. Beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👏👏🇺🇸🏴
Thank you very much, Steve! That is how I feel, as well.
One super incredible piece Phil . I have a bunch of cherry. Will have to look for one to try. Thanks again for another awesome instructional video. ❤
This piece amazes me to this day, Jim. It's story, it's grain, the way it was ripped from the tree during the hurricane. And now we have it in all it's natural beauty. I love it and would never let it go!
Very nice art work Phil love watching your wood turning!!! Can’t wait till the next video.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I'm so glad you like it, Emmett, thank you!
WOW Phil u always finish ur pieces to a very high standerd. thank u.
I try, Manjit. It took a long time to realize how important the finish is. That's what you are touching when you handle a piece. If it doesn't feel good it's not going to look good. Thank you!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop cool and thanks for advice
You’re hired! You can come cook for me anytime! It’s been a long time since I saw a rib eye steak , yum!
Now as to the bowl, that’s yummy too, love it! 😋
The good thing about the bowl is it lasts and lasts, Beatrice. That rib eye is loooong gone! LOL! 😊
Lol
Wow! This piece of wood is amazing. There was so much character on the top that I almost didn't want you to turn it. But I do really like the final piece. What a story this bowl has. Hurricane and traveling such a distance to become an amazing bowl of art.
(I believe I am all caught up with the videos I missed. Now I won't be filling your notifications up every day. Hmmm, now to catch up with another turner.)
I'm so glad you have chosen to spend time with me and for all your great comments. Thank you! 😊
So delighted to see this creation, Phil. I had a little fall that turned out not to be little, and so missed my ‘dates’ with you in the Woodshop. It so good to hear your voice
and watch your master’s hand once again. You give so much to so many. Be safe, take care during this time!
Oh no, Joanne! I hope you have fully recovered. That's a scary thing. Please be very aware and careful, I need you on Thursdays, at least! 😍
Phil
Superb piece Phil and as usual an excellent turn.
Stay safe

Many thanks, Mike, I appreciate you stopping by!

Truly outstanding mr Anderson! A wonderful piece that you must be proud of. I love everything about it, the shape, the finish and your skill at coaxing it out of the rough.
Thank you so much! 😊 One of my favorite pieces, I'm glad you like it, too!
Absolutely fantastic Phil! You are a master of your craft. Thank you. Gil
Thank you so much, Gil! 😊
Glad you didn't touch the outside that is what makes it so good and love the Cherry!!
Agreed, Larry, this one didn't need much input from me. Thank you!
Phil
I just came across this one. Simply gorgeous, Phill.
Ya know, it really is, Karl. I marvel at it every time I see it. I'm glad you like it, too, thank you! 😊
Another miracle - well done Phil! You are starting to influence me in my choice of bowl edges so please carry on the good work !
Thanks, John, will do! I'm so glad you are starting to see things a little differently. Variety is the spice of life, you know!
Phil Anderson - Shady Acres Woodshop well, a ‘straight and level’ bowl edge can look so boring...
Your waves look like eagle tail feathers to me. Good job.
Thank you, Garth! They do resemble feathers. Cheers!
Stunning Phil. One of your best creations. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks, Chris! I agree with you, one of the best.
Thank you so much. I love your approach and philosophy as regards wood and woodturning. Greetings from New Zealand.

And I wish you could, Kent. It's one of my favorites! 😊
Your channel is so unique Phil. The intrigue is seeing pieces of wood no one else would attempt to turn, transformed into works of art. Always entertaining; usually a surprise at the end.
Cool, thanks, Steve!
Pretty piece of wood. Great job Mr. Anderson.
Glad you like it, Red!
Remarkable piece-truly an inspiration to other turners, it certainly is to me. Stay safe, from Tasmania-👍😁🇦🇺🔭

Hi Phil, a message to you from across the pond, (Somerset, south west England) that piece of cherry you turned is absolutely stunning. I have viewed a number of your videos and its plain to see you like to maintain the character of the piece you turn. Keep going Phil, can't wait to see what you are producing next!
So nice of you, Anthony, thank you very much! I'm so glad you understand my approach to turning! 😍

Yes Phil that is Art.
Mother Natures art, Lewis and she did a great job on this one! 😊
Wow is all I can say..WOW..!!!!!!
I appreciate that, Todd, thank you very much! 😂
Hi Phil, It is your best to date. The finish is just amazing. As you said before what you leave is just as important as what you take away. I also love the fact that you give a tutorial for some aspect of the project which helps us mere mortals understand the mind of a master and how to do things to get a result such as this. If you feel the steak is too big then give me a call and I'll pop over the pond to give you a hand. Oh, I can't do that because of the lockdown so you'll just have to manage on your own Phil. LOL. Take care. Cheers, Huw
You may be right, Huw. This one is just special, no doubt about it. Thank you so much, buddy! Oh, the steak, well, I did manage it quite nicely, thank you very much! LOL!
And once again Phil, an absolutely beautiful piece! Had Ribeye the other night, lasagna tonight!
Sounds great, David! I haven't learned to make lasagna, yet, but I know how to eat it! LOL!
We're practically neighbors Phil. Once all this CoronaCrap is over I'll make you a lasagna. As long as you keep posting these beautiful turnings that is!@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
