    I'm excited for the day when we have these big guys in the lineup!

    I don’t dislike the picks today. But a part of me felt, “So we’re just gonna keep doing what we did under Dorion - focusing only on size and paying no attention to other attributes?” Got our RD yesterday, and today we just kept drafting the big LDs and LWs we always draft.
    No centers, RWs, or goalies. Three big LWs, and two big LDs. 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Edit: The only RWs under contract in our entire system are Giroux, Batherson, Boucher and MacEwen. That’s four. We need eight just to fill out our NHL and AHL clubs. Don’t talk to me about Matthieu Joseph, he’s supposed to be a LW. I guess I’m talking more about R shot wingers, since guys like Jo can play either wing.

      Good points, but I think we have to keep in mind that the draft is just one part of retooling. Trades and free agency are the other two. I can see us trading one of Chabot or Branstrom. If we do it as a cap savings, it could be for AHL RWers. Then use the cap for some big UFA. Everything will be clearer in a week.

      @@martinedwards2004 Yeah, fair enough. I just think it’s wise to have different types of weapons in your arsenal. I don’t personally agree with drafting 10 of the same guy over and over. lol

      Exactly what I had on mind after seeing these pics. Agree with you. We are stacked with LDs.

      Best Player Available. That's all that matters.
      Most of these guys aren't going to be NHL players; draft the players you think have the best chance. What's more valuable: 5 RW's that never play in the NHL or 1 LW that does?
      Mid-late round picks will take 3-4 years before they'll earn an NHL roster spot (assuming they even pan out). Organizational needs today are not the same as the organizational needs in 3-4 years.

    If they were going to go for Eliasson why not trade back and collect some more draft capital?

      Better to be safe then sorry. Happens all the time. Usually a team will trade up meaning the intiate the trade...very rarely a team will move down because the guy they are targeting is an over pick

    • @DarthChewie
      @DarthChewie Před 21 dnem

      No guarantee a targeted player will still be available at the later pick. If you want a player, draft a player. If this draft showed anything, it's the huge variance between the publicly available prospect rankings vs each team's prospect rankings.
      If you trade down it's because another GM made an offer you can't refuse, or there's a group of players you think are equally valuable so you know at least 1 will still be available at the later pick.

      They may have tried to trade down but couldn’t find any takers. After the first round it’s a crap shoot so giving up a pick to move up 5-10 spots isn’t that attractive.

    Couldn’t make the smart pick, and draft Buium @ 7. Make me $1000 for Buium under 7.5 pick. No has to draft a Defenseman not even close to Buium potential.
    Buium > Yakemchuk
    Let’s revisit in 5 yrs and see who’s right.
