There was some sweet water-styled transmog from a bunch of the questing in cata but its hard to make sets out of it on account of there not being enough color variants and having the LFR, Normal and Heroic recolor variants mighta solved that. Also, the idea just sounds really cool and you could do some really fun boss mechanics in an underwater dungeon/raid.

Then find out what they hate and work on making it better. It's sad that because blizzard used to listen to people who whine about actual good dungeons (Yes The Oculus is one of the best dungeons in terms of uniqueness, fight me) but people have the iq of a rock and refuse to play anything that isn't just hitting their one button rotation. Another thing that was cut in Cataclysm was the original storyline for the goblin. In the beta, it was implied that it was your goblin character that indirectly caused the fall of kezan (through a game of footbomb) hence why Gallywix had lines in the lost isle where he would blame the player's character for causing this mess. It was then scrapped to have Deathwing randomly fly in and destroy Kezan.

    • @Timmothy_plays
      @Timmothy_plays Před 3 lety +6

      Hell, a way to meet in-between would be for the Player to kick the game winning footbomb that hits Deathwing as he is flying by, and because of that he thinks that the Goblins are attacking him so he then causes the eruption of Kezan in retaliation.

  • @Loremastrful
    @Loremastrful Před 3 lety +16

    One correction: You do get to see Deathwing's human form in another quest. It's a questline in the Badlands to retrieve and cleanse one of the last Balck dragonflight eggs (Wrathion). One of the red dragons (in a night elf form) tends to the egg when Ol' lockjaw shows up. He kills her and the destroys the egg, but leaves us alive. We later find a note where the dragon mom explains that this was a ruse to throw DW off the trail. She sacrificed herself and one of her eggs to give this black egg a chance to live uncorrupted.

    Cata is that one expansion where I can listen to all the criticism and still confidently say, "yeah, I, don't care."
    I just, love, WoW. I was raised on this game. My Dad bought it in 2005, and the first expansion drop that I was conscious of, was Cataclysm. Sure, WotLK came out while I was little, so did TBC, but Cataclysm was the one that caught me while I was getting into gaming. Nights spent farming gold for my brother or my dad, or flying them to a certain spot in Northrend, because they didn't have the flight path, picking up quests, leveling their characters while my Dad made dinner, or my brother wanted to play something else on the Xbox but didn't want to lose out on the grind.
    Wrath was my introduction, Catacylsm was my time to appreciate WoW, independent of my brother and my dad's characters. Cata's when I made my first character, or, well, my Dad gave me a character, a Dranei Warrior. I still want to transfer him over to my account, just haven't gotten around to it.
    But, I'm digressing. Cata is just, a special thing for me. I love WoW, more than I should, given all that Blizzard's done in terms of the game, not even counting their real world controversies, but, I *love* WoW. I tried to put it down after the allegations came out, but I just, couldn't. I fucking cried after putting that icon in the trashcan, okay? Couldn't stay away from it for more than two weeks.
    Cata's always gonna have that place for me. Even if a bunch of it was cut, I still love what we got. Just, do. Unconditionally.

    Always felt like Cataclysm was the first bad expansion for WoW. And I think I see why - so many big cool ideas, but not enough time to work on them all, especially with the world revamp. Blizzard really needed to plan out WotLK post-ICC more. If they had done so, they could have avoided the giant content gap between Ruby Sanctum and Cata, and maybe had more time to work on Cata.
    Actually, that's been a problem since WotLK. They've underestimated how long it's going to take them to finish expansions for over a decade now, and never have enough content to cover the time gap.

      Right after Ulduar patch, WoW's lead designer since launch, Jeff Kaplan (as well as a siginificant portion of WoW's old team) was taken to work on a new "next-gen" MMO (the "Titan" project).
      Long story short: it would've been an MMO- FPS**** set in Overwatch's universe, but the logistics of making an FPS work on such a massive scale didn't pan out. So, Overwatch was salvaged from Titan's corpse; and WoW has been robbed of it's original talent (the "special sauce", if you will) ever since.
      It may not be a coincidence that right after merging w/ Activision, Blizzard decided to try to make a second hit MMO when they already had the most successful MMO ever made. Greed? An interesting factoid: in a 2017 AMA Jeff said he left the WoW team because it left him "fatigued"... but why then work on what's supposed to be the next biggest MMO ever?

    makes you realize how much cooler and more immersive a lot of zones could have been if they expanded on it and made it more alive instead of just spreading some dumb mobs to get farmed with some quests and dailies and that's it

    Cata was rushed. So much was left on the cutting room floor since Wrath was much smaller than originally planned and/or Cata was probably intended to be WoW2. Imo, they wanted Wrath to go on for 3 years or more then release Cata with at least most of this stuff. However, making a mega expansion is probably not the best idea since people will just lose interest until the end then just do all of the content then. This was already happening with TBC in 2008 and so they had to make Wrath a 2 year expansion and thus didn't have the time to fully develop everything they had planned for Cata. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a Wrath+ or Cata+ come out of the Classic project.

      True Cata was indeed revolutionary at the time, it was a WotLK+, a better WotLK in every way, except it had one fewer raid tiers. The class design was brought to a whole new level and Cata still has the best class design, followed by WoD and SL.
      The Dungeon and Raid boss mechanics were brought to a new level, much more deep and complex than TBC/WotLK. All the QoL improvements and polishing of all of WotLKs unpolsihed systems.
      The Molten Front was great.
      The revamped 1-60 was excellent at the time.
      Tier 11 and Tier 12 are two of the best raid tiers of all time.
      Everything was just right and they just needed to add more content to it. That 4.1 content draught was annoying and the 4.3 content draught as well, it was also the first expansion to have only 3x raid tiers and Tier12 was cut in half, but at least the Firelands was epic.

It had a fresh air about it, something special and the community was what it was, not what it is now. I've played a lot of Cata on Apollo so for me at least, it isn't nostalgia.
