Redline is very popular with my Indian & Harley friends along with Klotz. I believe both are group V oils. They seem to hold up well from the heat a air cooled V-Twin puts out. They use 15w 60 or 20w 60 specifically for motorcycle's. On my Indian it's a shared sump system with engine and transmission.

Would love to see a video on Motorcraft or Zerex Gold versus the standard green for antifreeze. Tons of discussion on this in the Panther forums about how you don't have to use the gold as green is okay.
i ran the best amsoil 5w30 oil and filter in my 2011 f150 ecoboost. i did 10,000 mi oil changes religiously. they say it can go 25,000 miles between changes. it destroyed my engine. i got about 98,000 miles out of it. it needed a timing chain and cam phasers. when the shop opened it up, they said it was slugged and gummed up real bad. i will never run it again. i also change oil on my rigs at 5,000 miles now. thanks for all the time and effort you put in rich !!
Safe travels Rich. I use Redline, my engines seem to run quieter and smoother on Redline. I figure for the same price as taking my car to a shop to get its oil changed with synthetic I might as well change it myself and put the money into the best oil I can.
Nobody can't say we don't have a good variety of motor oils to choose from in this country. I run Walmart SuperTech oil. Have for decades now. My latest car is a FIAT 500, picked up at 124k miles. It's unique because its intake valvetrain is hydraulically operated using engine oil for pressure (Multiair). I had access to lots of oil at the time so I flushed the engine oil at 50 miles, 100, miles, 500 miles & 1000 miles when I first got it. I've got the oil clean now which the Multiair likes, and change it at 2500 miles now. I've got a STP 10,000 mile filter on the engine & nothing leaks.
I tried the Amsoil 0w20 OE oil, 100% synthetic and I was able to find it for less than 8 dollars a quart online, ran it for 5000 miles, it did really well but it isn’t as easy to find as Valvoline or Penzoil.
I never had a negative experience with pennzoil ultra it definitely quieted the bbq tick the old 5.0 that I replaced in my 2017 f150 but I did pull the valve covers after I pulled it out and I never let it go beyond 3500 miles most oil changes were around 3k and there was a good amount of varnish on the phasers and cams. For a oil that’s all about cleaning I’ve seen way cleaner engines running on Valvoline so I’ve decided to stick with Napa full synthetic and a can of MOA between changes
Good morning Rich and to all. a little late watching this video got a little sick this weekend didn't do anything just rested for work this morning feeling better. This is great information Rich on the different oil there is and we have a lot of choices, some good some not so good. As long as the oil you use is right for your vehicle and use a good oil filter and change it on a regular bases your good ( JUST MY OPINION ). But the choice of brand is up to you. Have a great week and a safe one guys. Be Blessed.

The Microgard Select is a great filter. Whip City Wrencher’s cutaway review revealed very high quality construction. I use the filter on my wife’s ‘19 CX-5 and it’s working out great.

Hey Rich thanks for your wealth of knowledge it's very helpful. I have a 21 F150 Power Boost. I have the Ford dealer change my oil. how does motorcraft full synthetic compare to your list of those five best oils?
Penzoil ultra platinum left a waxy film on my ecoboost that caused the phasers to gunk up with 4000 mile oil change. Switched to valvoline restore and protect with way better performance and results.
There's a cheap engine oil, dedicated to Ford Wss M2C 913-D specs here in Europe, called Meguin Surface Protection 5W30. Made in Germany. I don't know if this oil's available in the US, but it should get a test course.
I use Amazon Basics full synthetic high mileage 5W30 in my 100k mile Taurus SHO. It's cheap and passes DEXOS. $25 for a 5-qt jug, $43 for a six pack of qts.
And the reason the passage exos is because it's the same additive and same formula that's in like six other manufacturers all made from the same place Warren distribution
Been using Havoline for a while in a old beat up explorer. It's little cheaper but similar to Havoline is Chevron Supreme. The Chevron Supreme harder to find tho.
@@TheBandit7613the Hemi 392 uses VVT, Variable Valve Timing, which is run via oil pressure. So, if you change to a different weight oil you're just asking for trouble. Gen 3 Hemi's have ECO mode, IE-4 cyl mode, and oil weight may have an effect. But, I don't know that for a fact. SRT versions don't have ECO mode.
@@oemytech You didn't get rid of the cylinder deactivation yet? (Good god) I watched a video a couple weeks ago. It's a popular CZcams auto tech that was talking about the EPA pressuring manufacturers and even auto tech "influences" to avoid talking about the very thin motor oils being used now, and the thinner oils on the way. One of his statements: "They say these thinner oils are because of tighter tolerances inside new engines." "That's a lie, they haven't changed since the 1940's" The engines with blowby, gas gets past the rings and overfills the oil, he says is because the ring to cylinder pressure has dropped. The rings aren't pressing hard enough on the cylinder walls. (Makes sense) The diluted oil eventually damages the bearings. The EPA is now full of activists instead of scientists or technicians. If I can find the video, I'll post the link back to you.

Hi Rich, I would really like your recommendation, and I hope you take a few minutes to read and reply. I have a 2009 Ford Focus that now has about 125,500 miles on it. I have only used 5w20 Red Line since my first oil change. Yes, I did buy this car new. I also have the Amsoil universal dual oil-filtration system. The by-pass filter is the BP-110 which is a 2-quart filter. My current oil capacity is 7 quarts. I intend to install the Frantz by-pass filter which would then increase the capacity to 8-quarts. I have also used some different oil additives over the years, and I have religiously changed my oil every 5,000 miles. Rich, this engine runs extremely smooth. Currently, Amazon sells the Red Line 5w20 for $65.62 for a 1-gallon jug. When you add the tax into this, we are now talking about $140.00 for one oil change. Also, think about this, 16 quarts of Red Line would cost $262.48. Then add the 6% government rape of $15.75, and you now have $278.23. I can now buy the 3-pack of 5-quart jugs of the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20 for $121.75 or the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 for $79.29. Would you switch to 5W30? Would you switch to Pennzoil over Red Line while using my very superior filtration system? Also, please research a company called Bell Performance. I am using their Ethanol Defense, and their X-Tra Lube, and I also have a tube of their grease. This company has been around for over 100 years, and I hardly ever see anyone on CZcams mentioning them. After watching your show, and understanding how much you respect Marvel Mystery Oil. I think a great fuel additive would be to add 8 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil with 2 ounces of the Bell Performance Ethanol Defense for 20 gallons of gas. You would then be using products from 2 companies that have been in business for over 100 years. Rich, my name is Ernest and I'm from Baltimore. I have enjoyed watching many of your videos. Take Care, my brother. God Bless.
Awesome information. I’m going to be in a little different boat. Flat tappet camshaft as a daily driver. Most synthetics are 850-900 PPM ZDDP. The info I have received is this base stock in some brads are good enough now if drained at 3.000 mile. I get a lot of this to shoot for a 1200 PPM ZDDP?
I was pretty surprised schaeffers didn’t make your list. It looked like you liked those oils and I switched to it on how impressive they looked. Not a big deal just thought it would of made the list. Have a good day
Ive used Valvoline full synthetic ATF+4 in my older Chryslers. Haven't had a issue. I switched over to citgo trans guard in my PT Cruiser since Blair's farm and fleet has it $3 cheaper a quart. I compared the additive sheets, freeze points, flash points etc. Not off by much. It really is just changing fluids on time so no damage occurs in the clutch packs or solenoids.

I have a genuine question for you Rich. If it is ok to run high mileage oil in a low mile engine, as it is just more add pack, then is there any reason not to run high mileage oil over the regular stuff of the same product line? Its usually the same price anyway right?
Hyundai (2021 Palisade with the 3.8 GDI 6cyl) has included oil changes (synthetic blend, brand unknown) every 7,500 miles. I've been paying for the ones in between, so I've been having the oil changed every 3,700'ish miles since new (currently at 20k). I've got two more of their "free" oil changes (22k and 30k) and after that I'm going to switch over to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and do it myself. Should I keep doing it at 3,700 miles like it has been or do you recommend, since it's full synthetic and a known oil to you, increasing to 5k between changes? 75% of my driving is around town or short distances.
Be curious what oil analysis shows with Supertech, Costco etc oil if a person is only running them for say, 5k mi. Understand frequent heavy towing, running up to redline on the regular, &/or pushing the oil to 7,500mi (or more), but for the guy changing things out on a shorter interval, does it matter which oil he uses provided it's the right viscosity range?
Hey Rich, I dug up some more dirt on the North 69 oils. There is a seller in Canada where I live selling to consumers 5L jugs at $20 CAD or just about $15 USD and then on to of that wholesale prices to auto repair shops. I am worried that this oil is completely unknown and of very low quality, and sold through a reseller for a bottom barrel price. This same oil on Amazon is $65 CAD. Should I cut my losses, accept that the auto shop was queetionable at best... and just change the oil at 1500 miles? My car has 146k miles. I stocked up on all the heavy hitters. Pennzoil Platinum High mileage, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and 4 jugs of Valvoline maxlife HM. Also to my fellow Canadians. Canadian tire might still have the Pennzoil Platinums on sale for $38.99 for the jug and Pennzoil has the coupon for $20 if you buy two jugs and send the receipt. If you got the bonus CT money, on four jugs which cost $170 after tax, i got $70 back in CT money and the oennzoil coupon!!!
Hi, have you come across an oil brand called 69 North? I had my car oil change done a while back at a small shop. They used a gull synthetic oil but i didn't realize which type they used until i snooped around the shop. It seemed to be the only oil brand in shop. It comes in quart, 5L jug, 18.9L box, drum and case. Looks like an inexpensive bulk synthetic. Im going ti change the oil at 3000 miles as i have never heard of North 69 brand motor oil

BS
Enjoy your trips. I’m still a valvoline fan as my top budget oil then Pennzoil as my second choice. All good oils you’re talking about.
Safe travels Rich. I use Redline, my engines seem to run quieter and smoother on Redline. I figure for the same price as taking my car to a shop to get its oil changed with synthetic I might as well change it myself and put the money into the best oil I can.
Wise thinking
Redline is awesome. Their gear lube and grease are fantastic also.
#3 & #4 Valvoline!! High mileage!! Synthetic!!! Thanks boss man!!!! USA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 awesome grass cut. I just take mine to the Valvoline Shop.
Project Farm did a comparison of multiple oils. Seemed pretty objectively done. The top 2 were Amsoil Signature Series and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
I tried the Amsoil 0w20 OE oil, 100% synthetic and I was able to find it for less than 8 dollars a quart online, ran it for 5000 miles, it did really well but it isn’t as easy to find as Valvoline or Penzoil.
Well between you and my Dad got my stuff right thanks.😊 Be blessed
Beautiful
Be Blessed.
Well I definitely hope you feel better
Thank you brother.@@FordBossMe
*Great information. Thanks for sharing*
Great video
Great video. I didn't know you recommended Pennzoil Platnium over the Valvoline series. Ultra Platnium yes but not Platnium. Good to know
Thanks for this video, covers everything for any questions on your oil preferences. How about oil filters? Or did you already do a similar vid already on this?
I think the Oreilly full synthetic with the MICOR GARD SELECT filter is now on sale for $34.99 at my Oreilly's. After seeing your video on their oil and seeing that filter on WHIP CITYS channel I think to be able to buy the oil and filter at that price is very good deal.
I use the Microgard Select Oil filter. It's very well made! And not bad when you get the oil deal from O'Reillys.
The Microgard Select is a great filter. Whip City Wrencher’s cutaway review revealed very high quality construction. I use the filter on my wife’s ‘19 CX-5 and it’s working out great.
I am kinda surprised Schaffer’s wasn’t in the mix. I am starting to try the other oils you have mentioned to see how they do in my application.
Schaffer is right there but because of price didn't make it
I lived fl almost 20 yrs in 70’s & 80’s my dad use to work at the Lincoln & mercury garage in Clearwater fl on gulf to bay (it was Carlisle’s ) I think auto nation owns it or some big car company but that about 35 yrs ago thanks the video and info👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I'd love to live there
Great lists! What are you thoughts on same video but with oil filters? I’d love to hear your input
Very informative video 👌
I change my oil and filter on my V6 Tacoma every 5K using 5W30 Mobil conventional oil. No problems.
I use pennzoil platinum and Quaker state synthetic also super tech synthetic In my wife’s Santa Fe . Zero problems .
I've been buying the Valvoline 12 quart box at Walmart. Heck of a deal
Here in Europe the SCT group makes top budget oils AKA Mannol, Fanfaro, Pemco and Chempioil .
These 4 brands are the same oil but different names.
grass looks good.
Redline !!!!! Thank you !!!!!
Hey, new here. Excellent video, straight to the point and hugely helpful. Would choosing an oil for a high mileage car change the list or order? I have a 2005 Mazda 3 with 187k miles, just trying to figure out the best budget oil for my application.
Hey rich the lawn looks good like in November don't forget to fertilize your lawn that's what we called winterizing as a fifty-year-old man I am afraid of heights so I don't think I would ever get on a plane 🥺🥺
My fave is Pennzoil Euro LX, in most Euro, Korean and Japanese cars, don't run or service domestics
Hey Rich thanks for your wealth of knowledge it's very helpful. I have a 21 F150 Power Boost. I have the Ford dealer change my oil. how does motorcraft full synthetic compare to your list of those five best oils?
It's ok but isn't all that
Penzoil ultra platinum left a waxy film on my ecoboost that caused the phasers to gunk up with 4000 mile oil change. Switched to valvoline restore and protect with way better performance and results.
I wish we had Pennzoil here , that easy and that cheap.
Thank you for your patriotism...Have a great time away
Which of the 'High Mileage' full synthetic oils would you pick? Top 5. #1 being the absolute best. Money being no issue.
What oil would you recommend for a sports car? And you do some spireded driving.
There's a cheap engine oil, dedicated to Ford Wss M2C 913-D specs here in Europe, called Meguin Surface Protection 5W30.
Made in Germany. I don't know if this oil's available in the US, but it should get a test course.
Send me it
I use Amazon Basics full synthetic high mileage 5W30 in my 100k mile Taurus SHO. It's cheap and passes DEXOS. $25 for a 5-qt jug, $43 for a six pack of qts.
A lot of oils would pass dexos but the company is not going to pay for every single one of them to be tested that's why you don't see the label on it
And the reason the passage exos is because it's the same additive and same formula that's in like six other manufacturers all made from the same place Warren distribution
The Havoline formula is much better
As a shop owner now, what is your view of cost effective bulk oil?
Been using Havoline for a while in a old beat up explorer. It's little cheaper but similar to Havoline is Chevron Supreme. The Chevron Supreme harder to find tho.
I use Pennzoil 0x40 Ultra Platinum as it is OE oil of choice for the 485 hp 392 ci in my Scat Pack.👍
Zero wt still scares me. No way. The EPA is the one pushing the ultra-thin oils and they don't care about your engine.
(Good god)
I watched a video a couple weeks ago. It's a popular CZcams auto tech that was talking about the EPA pressuring manufacturers and even auto tech "influences" to avoid talking about the very thin motor oils being used now, and the thinner oils on the way.
One of his statements: "They say these thinner oils are because of tighter tolerances inside new engines." "That's a lie, they haven't changed since the 1940's"
The engines with blowby, gas gets past the rings and overfills the oil, he says is because the ring to cylinder pressure has dropped. The rings aren't pressing hard enough on the cylinder walls. (Makes sense)
The diluted oil eventually damages the bearings.
The EPA is now full of activists instead of scientists or technicians.
If I can find the video, I'll post the link back to you.
@@TheBandit7613 I can turn of ECO mode with my Tazer.
@@TheBandit7613 yep, it’s the corrupt politicians with their stupid CAFE, corporate average fuel economy, standards that got the DOD lifters and stop-start crap to name a couple. 🤦♂️
I bought redline last week for my chevy 5.3 with the AFM, maybe help save the lifters
Go havoline!! 40 year plus user done me well thanks!
I agree. I've seen a couple motors that had issues, & the only oil that could take a beating & still keep good oil pressure was Havoline.
Very under rated.
Using Triax now...fwiw ...
You getting married 🎉🎉 congratulations brother! You're a good man
Hi Rich, I would really like your recommendation, and I hope you take a few minutes to read and reply. God Bless.
I would go to 5W30 Ultra no problem
I will check out bell performance and if you have any links to anything you want me to check out from them send it to me here
You’re a slick guy Rich 😉😘🔧🔧💪

Are you testing Hotshot black and blue diamond oils?
Awesome information. I’m going to be in a little different boat. Flat tappet camshaft as a daily driver. Most synthetics are 850-900 PPM ZDDP. The info I have received is this base stock in some brads are good enough now if drained at 3.000 mile. I get a lot of this to shoot for a 1200 PPM ZDDP?
Driven oils
I was pretty surprised schaeffers didn’t make your list. It looked like you liked those oils and I switched to it on how impressive they looked. Not a big deal just thought it would of made the list. Have a good day
Schaffer's is good man but the price point is a little high
Cold flow was an issue for me
Where would you rate Mobil 1 Advanced Full Synthetic and Liquimoly Molygen?
You should do a oil review on tractor supplys traveller branded oil. I can not find any reviews on CZcams
Hi Rich
I would like to hear about ATF fluid sometime, I saw new formula from Valvoline is called extended protection ATF should be pretty good fluid.
@@tylerc7037 I’ve used max life multi vehicle in my Alfa Romeo with ZF 8HP automatic transmission and on Kia soul recently 275k miles unbelievable zero issues, new formula extended protection should be even better.
Richard what is the difference between, enhanced Valvoline maxlife synthetic, and extended Valvoline maxlife synthetic? The garage box only comes in enhanced..
How was it in clearwater? im down here in largo
So you would use the Havoline Pro-DS over Supertech high mileage? Appreciate your expertise!
Oh yes
You’ve used BG automotive products with many of your customers. Have you ever thought of testing BGs engine oil? It would be interesting how it matches up against Pennzoil, Valvoline and the other too 5 engine oils
I have
It's decent oil, nothing to brag about though
Napa Synthetic (Valvoline) is a really good oil as well.
Yep
I have a genuine question for you Rich. If it is ok to run high mileage oil in a low mile engine, as it is just more add pack, then is there any reason not to run high mileage oil over the regular stuff of the same product line? Its usually the same price anyway right?
Rod - thus its a better adpack
So high mileage oils are the better bet in any never application from the late 90s up
STP oil very good for the price
5k works well if you are highway driving atheist 50%
I'm having trouble finding Pennzoil Ultra. Also, do you think Valvoline quality will stay the same now that the Saudis own them?
Oh yes
I use Amsoil signature series fuel economy has been amazing. Shouldn’t be 5th in my opinion.
With the price of cars the price of oil is cheap, vs buying a car. Good morning n have a good day.👍👍👍
Good morning from Rainy NY
What was the #1 oil for diesel engine
I know schaeffers was high on your list
HOT SHOT SECRET BLUE DIAMOND or Amsoil or Valvoline Premium Blue or
Hi, have you come across an oil brand called 69 North?
I had my car oil change done a while back at a small shop. They used a gull synthetic oil but i didn't realize which type they used until i snooped around the shop.
It seemed to be the only oil brand in shop. It comes in quart, 5L jug, 18.9L box, drum and case. Looks like an inexpensive bulk synthetic. Im going ti change the oil at 3000 miles as i have never heard of North 69 brand motor oil
It makes me wonder if the more expensive oils make an engine last significantly longer.
How about Royal Purple? I thought that was one of the best oils.
Rich, what is your opinion on Royal Purple? Red Line is better?
Redline I like better but both are good
