When I met my husband we sat in his living room on the third floor of a small apartment complex. The sliding doors open and a light spring breeze rattled the vertical blinds like a soft sounding wind chime. We sat on his couch and listened to music, talking for hours. I had been given a copy of Amos Lee and as In the Arms of a Woman played through his speakers. The sweet melody wafted through the air and embraced us pulling us closer. He took my hand and guided me from the couch to his dining room a few steps away. Putting his hand on my lower back he pulled me close. We danced in that dining room and it was the beginning of dancing everywhere and anywhere when the music hit us. Whenever I hear that song I go right back to the beginning. My husband died two years ago. Today, when I hear “Spirit”, and that love blooms all over again. Thank you Amos Lee for being a part of our love story.

I have watched him so day one. I first went to see him play at a tiny venue in Memphis. I think it was "The Daisy." Years ago. He was the one peddling EP's in the lobby and he signed mined. He laughed and said "you have that?" It was the first print copy. I lived in Little Rock then and he was in Memphis. I now live in New Orleans and when he sings this song about Royal Street and New Orleans I feel him. It was the "Spirit" that kept me here when I was only supposed to be here on a three year assignment. I just sold my house and said fuck it. I am staying. It was the "Spirit." So yes, Amos, it was the "Spirit." And by the way, what was happening on Royal Street? hhm Goose bumps still. Always.
