I think there is a bigger point to this song. It is a dig at mankind, not a specific person. Maynard took Jesus’s sermon where he gave the Beatitudes and flipped them. Humans are not any of those things in the beatitudes. He is basically saying that mankind worships the rich, the vain, the gluttonous, the slothful, the wrathful, etc. He is saying all the people that Christ said were blessed are really The Doomed.

The Doomed is not Political, The Doomed is you. Maynard and the Band are looking at you. Maynard's journey through the past decades has been very much influenced by his Mother, a devout, unwavering, true christian as well as some of his readings and influences by Carl Jung a psychologist and philosopher. What Maynard is saying here is that what was once right is now wrong, what was once wrong is now right, what was black in now white and white is now black. YOU need to get back to what is truth! This whole album is a warning about our ways now and how they are destroying us inside. In this album is another hit on social media and silicone devices that taken over our lives, Disillusioned and how this addiction too the new culture is the worse form of addiction there is. Getting a "Like" is no different than getting a fix. I would seriously read his book, it was great to get his understanding and what influenced his life. If you would like to go further down the Rabbit Hole and spiral out, Read Carl Jung, Mate, Peterson, Dostoyevsky as well as some eastern influences to get a perspective on returning to nature.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with your interpretation. The lyrics are basically a reversal of the Beatitudes, a set of statements made by Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the poor in spirit," "blessed are the meek," "blessed are the merciful," etc. These virtues here are replaced by vices and sins, so that the vices are blessed and the virtues are damned. Who or what this new Christ is is up for interpretation, but either way it's powerful stuff.

I first saw Tool in 1993 on the side stage of Lollapalooza 3. I had heard their first EP and album (Opiate and Sober) before that. Maynard is one of the single most talented people alive today in the entire field of "music". Yes, I know that's a pretty extreme suggestion. I don't care. It is *NOT* wrong, and nothing anyone can say can change my mind on that. The fact that it's an extreme position, especially at that time, doesn't make it incorrect. Tool was my favorite band in the 90s. It is *STILL* my favorite band in the 2020's. I have no words to explain just how big an impact he and his musical projects have had on the current social, political, and cultural zeitgeist. But that changes nothing. Tool was my favorite band in the 90s, it was my favorite band in the 2000's, it was my favorite band in the 2010's, it's my favorite band in the 2020's, and will probably be my favorite band for all time. Thanks for checking him out.

Then listen to their cover of John Lennon's - Imagine ... you will find sand or dust in your eyes needing to be teared away. IT broke me down proving I still care. The video is quite interesting.
What I find particularly interesting about it is the fact that the band keeps eye contact with us almost the whole time. I interpret it as they want to address us all personally with the song and that's why they look us in the eyes.
As soon as Maynard starts singing about the groups of people that are doomed, the band members in the video hold their hands in front of their own eyes. I interpret it as symbolic of the many people running to their doom closing their eyes to what is being done to them.
The song and the video are, in my opinion, an attempt to make us aware of the truth and to make us stand up for ourselves.

I first thought MJK was like a fisherman, casting that hook deep down into you to fish up exactly what he wanted so he can then hold it before you to examine. This doesn't have to mean an individual. It could mean an entire culture, or the entire world; humanity as a whole.
The collaborations he's a part of are so much more than that, but that is an effective simplification.
