  • Let's go over the differences between the John Deere X300 and S200 Series of lawn mowers.
If you’ve been shopping for a new lawn tractor or riding lawn mower, you may have noticed that there are a lot of different options and model numbers out there. John Deere has an offering for every price point - beginning with the S Series all the way up to the X700 Signature Series. The first thing to recognize about the S Series is that not all models are available everywhere John Deere is sold. The S220 and the S240 are dealer exclusive models, sold only at your authorized John Deere dealer.
This week on the Papé Toolkit, our Toolkit Expert Jason Hughes walks us through some of the differences of dealer exclusive models: The S200 Series, and the X300 Series. Which one is right for you and your property? Take into account the size of your property and it’s features: is your lawn relatively flat, or do you have hills? Will you be mowing around beds, trees, or shrubs? Will a few different people be using the mower, or will you be it’s only operator?
Let’s find out more with Jason! If you have any questions, feel free to comment on the video and we'll help you out.

It looks like the s220 you show here has the Carlisle turf savers and the x350 has the carlisle multi trac tires. Which tires come on the s240? I mow a few hills and the turf saver tires are iffy at best,at least for my needs.

Does the S220 come with the K46 or TLT200? Online says TLT200 but the manual says K46. Is there any way to confirm on the tractor itself?

From everything I've seen the s220 has the tlt200.

As to the s100, s200, x300 for 1.5 acres is there a quality difference. Is the x300 worth 2 of the s series. not ease of use of whatever just durability. will the x series last twice as long.

Hey Stinky, thanks for watching! There really is a quality difference. Twice as long is hard to say. Will you be channeling your inner George Jones and driving your X300 to the local watering hole? Will you be putting it through the paces, lagging on oil changes, and running over debris while you mow? Of course, we don't suggest doing any of these things with any model lawn tractor, but we can tell you that the craftsmanship and durability of the X300 series is a step above the S Series. This is one of the reasons you'll see an upgraded warranty on the X300 line.

I have an E170 which quit running after 25hrs. I'm not saying it was the quick-change oil system or just a bad engine. I ended up having a new engine put in it. The new engine is the same engine that is in the S series but I had the dealer put the conversion kit on and did away with the quick change.

Hey there J, thanks for watching! Sorry to hear about the trouble with your E170! Good thinking to eliminate that step... sometimes it's just better to be safe than sorry.
