    So happy to see a new episode. 11 years ago my husband and I sold everything, packed 2 suitcases each and moved to EC from the US and now after 7 years in our current apartment we finally opted to buy our own place and so when you talked about going through everything, that's currently what's happening. I'm living in a sea of boxes but as you said the feeling when you go through every nook and cranny of your home and donate, discard and/or pack, you realize how much stuff is just hanging around. I with you and Patrick the best of wishes as you embark on your new adventure.

      Lovely to hear from you Sharon🤗. Congrats on your new home! It is very cathartic to “lighten the load”- lol.Curious: I have read that there is a bit of political unrest there at the moment…. 1)Has that quieted down? 2)Do you feel safe as an expat? 3) where do you buy your yarn?!🤗

      @@forthefunofknit5322 I feel some of the reporting of issues here seem to be a little exaggerated but yes on the coast of EC (and to some extent in Quito which is the capital) has unfortunately become a favored passage for the illegal drug trade which has resulted in an increase in crime and gang activity. The new president is taking steps to get the illegal drugs, money laundering, political corruption and gang activity under control but it will take time. Where we live in Cuenca, which is in the Andes, we've not experienced those issues per se and I feel very safe. I use the same precautions I use wherever we travel including going back to the states. The harder question is where do I get my yarn. Fortunately for me another expat opened a yarn store and has been able to import yarns (all natural fibers) and some of the local yarn stores are beginning to get yarn from Turkey and India. I have also been fortunate that when family or friends visit they bring me yarn.🙂

    I'm so glad you are well--I have missed you! I'm also pleased your mom is doing so well with the shots. I have several friends who have the same condition. Losing one's eyesight sounds so awful to me! I knit once with boucle, and never again!! Even counting stitches for gauge is tough!! I am envious that you are going to Flock with friends, and you will have those gorgeous knits to show off. I am skipping Flock this year. As for cleaning out your house and moving--wow!! It is an overwhelming and daunting task to downsize one's belongings. We haven't reached that stage yet, but I know it is ahead. I try to get rid of things as we go along, but there is still a lot of stuff in our home!! Good luck!!

    Hi Linda, so good to see you.
    This was a great episode. All the knits were so fun, beautiful and different. I loved them all!! I always look forward to the patterns you chose and your color choices. The Steven West sweater is gorgeous.
    I found a little trick that took care of all my sock fitting woes, I also have high arches. The row before I start my heel I knit 2, make 1( knitting through the front and back of the stitch)k1 m1, k1, m1. So I am adding three stitches. I knit across to 7 sts before the end, I , m1, k1, m1, k1, m1, k2. So I have added 6 sts total, then I purl back and I am ready to start the heel. When I am through I decrease those 6 stitches, 3 on each side and continue. I hope this makes sense and that it changes your sick knitting like it changes mine.

    Glad you are back, missed you. I found a CZcams video from Olga Putano Designs called “Create a beautiful, neat split hem on your sweater” that works wonderfully. I was inspired to overlap my split hems by all the sweaters you have knit and shown. This technique takes it up a notch because it doesn’t involve sewing the overlap but doing what seems like double knitting.

I have seen some people increase the stitch count on the back stitches on the row before the heel starts she doing a short row heel. Would that help with the high arch problem? I do find getting socks over my heel a challenge although they fit in once on. Great news about your mum. My brother gets those shots in his eyes for Macular Degeneration too. Sounds so creepy- needles in your eyes-yikes. I so need to declutter- a long lifetime of accumulation-the kids don’t want any of it and I don’t want to move it- however procrastaknitting takes over.

    Thanks for another highly entertaining episode. I agree, the Beth Macdonald stone‘s designs are all very elegant. I’m just testknitting the nerdy basic 28 and love it. The doodle, I knit that one as well, falling in love with all the yakimoalexander‘sdesigns. Her agave and the inlet I knit immediately after having finished the doodles and there are quite a few patterns that are in my queue.

    Your Enchanted Mesa is stunning. I love your colour choices. I was about to purchase the pattern until I looked at the 32 or so photos. I don’t understand why the armpit on the right hangs down so low below their actual armpits. That would drive me up a tree. Could that be modified ? I’m knew to garment knitting. BTW, all of your knits are stunning..Thank you.

    • @forthefunofknit5322
      @forthefunofknit5322  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi Donna- thank you for watching. The pattern is designed to wear like a Swoncho. The model/wearer can hike or pull down each side to suit their own aesthetic. Me - I like to wear mine “balanced” = even on both sides which means my sleeves start at my elbows. For a novice knitter I think it might be a bit challenging to alter the pattern - it can be done but I would have noodle it a bit myself. If I figure it out or come across a similar pattern with more fitted sleeves I will forward the info🤗 Happy Sunday!

    Dear Linda. You don’t know me, but I’m a returning viewer to your channel and I really missed you and I’m glad you are back. I never heard about the upper bust measuring, but it sure makes sense. But do you think it would make a difference if the yoke is shorter?

    • @forthefunofknit5322
      @forthefunofknit5322  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi/ thank you so much for watching..,. You raise a very good point. Many patterns do not give a schematic for the “depth” of the yoke…which would be super helpful (hence trying it on a lot helps). I will think about that for a while and ask my knitting besties for their thoughts… great conversation point for the next episode.❤️

  • @louisec4806
    @louisec4806 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Omg, my knitting friend and I wanted to neaten up our split hems and I thought it was you who mentioned it Did you do either a backwards loop or cable cast at the end of your back ribbing to get the extra stitches you needed for split hem? If so how many did you cast on. Are you just going to take a length of yarn and attach that flap to the front half of your sweater ?

    • @forthefunofknit5322
      @forthefunofknit5322  Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you for watching Louise👏👏👏
      I start with the back ribbing. I do the backwards loop cast on. I knit the first row of ribbing and cast on 5 stitches at the end, turn my work , rib back to the beginning and cast on 5 more stitches. Then voila!… ribbing flat until finished. I actually leave all the tails of yarn about 10” long that way I can use them to seam the 5 stitches under the front ribbing on both sides.
      Hope that helps- happy knitting🤗
