Worthwhile mod. The issue (with some couriers and countries) is that if you do not put a 'real value' on something then it would not be covered for insurance purposes (if lost, damaged or stolen then the sender can only claim for the declared value). We have the same challenges in the UK, receiving goods from overseas. Only recently are some couriers separating insurance value (the price to replace something) from declared / actual value (very low if the goods are faulty).

Here the problem. If you over insure it hoping it will get lost in transit so you can cash in they you (the sender) gets stuck with the broker fees and taxes or iy comes back.
A few people looked up my address and shipped stuff to me directly. Fed ex add 37.50 plus the tax on whatever the declared value is. That bill arrives 3 weeks later. I take whatever the cost double it and add it to the repair cost. I do this because i am tired of people pulling this shit and sending me something that is not repairable. I still get stuck with the taxes. I hit nailed with 74.00 in taxes and fees when someone, whom I gave my PO box number to looked me up on Google and decided to ship fed ex to my street address. It was a Sony DAT. It never arrived. Was around Xmas a few years ago. FedEx dropped it at the door and 5 minutes after it was dropped someone wearing a face mask and hoody was caught on the camera walking up picking it up and walking away in broad daylight. I didn't even know it had been delivered untill the guy contacted me to enquire what was wrong with it. A few weeks later the tax and broker involve arrived. I called to say it never arrived and fed ex did an investigation and sent me a picture the driver took at the door. I sent them a picture of the crook taking it and their response was that they didn't believe it was stolen and that I was the one picking it up and walking off camera despite that my car was not in the driveway and i arrived home from work at 630. The shipper claimed his insurance money and went laughing all the way to the bank and i have 74.00 now plus interest at the collection agency that still calls my business number regularly. I just ignore them. Something that is broken has zero value. It's really that simple. If a declared value is requires 20 will get it through no problem. More than that and the owner pays. Post office won't release till paid.

I put $5 value on all used items and say the items is broken . No customer has ever complained in 25 years.. most get that factor to begin with - I am a strong opponent of paying for taxes on items that are used . Redundant profits are ridiculous. If someone wants the white glove treatement with shipping they are gonna pay - they usually back down once they understand what faces them.

@@12voltvids Quite agree, sender pays if any duties / taxes become payable (in the UK you can reject delivered goods if there are any duties payable and the overseas sender hasn't pre-accepted them, they then automatically revert to the sender). Repairs are treated differently in different countries, if you repair and invoice for repair charges in the UK then you are 'adding value', the previous value becomes a new value, attracting new duties / taxes. If the sender does not use the correct forms all hell can break loose.

@@ralphj4012 we have GST here that applies to everything. I don't collect it on the auto repair make because I don't meet the minimum income requirement to require me to collect it. People think I repair equipment for a living but I haven't done this for a living for almost 20 years it's a hobby for me now.

Why wouldn't it? After all it is a direct drive. It's the belt and rim drive that have all the rumble. All direct drive turntables are exceptionally quiet.

A bit of sneaky bypassing for a better deck.
For me just having the arm come back at the end and stop would be good.
No waiting for 3 years for the computer to play a track lol.

Hi Dave, how about using a micro switch under the tone arm so when you lift the arm, the turntable turns on, and off when you set the arm back on its rest !

Hi Dave. I believe this turntable is one of a long line of turntables made by CEC i(Japan) in the mid to late 70's for a number of well-known brands, in this case Sansui.
CEC also made turntables under their own name . These models are popular with vintage enthusiasts and receive good reviews.

The continuous spinning ((or no spinning at all), is usually caused by the arm actuated micro switch requiring a couple of squirts of contact cleaner.
I happen to have a mint Hitachi PS 48 from the same era, which I picked up for $60 and which still works very well and has now become my main turntable for listening to my vinyl collection.

No I'm not saying that I don't consume any alcohol I do. Perhaps one or two beer for an entire evening is enough for me. Did I drink more when I was younger yeah a little. There is a few times that I would have been beyond the legal limit let's just say I will leave it at that. That was typically when I was hosting a party at my place and didn't have to worry about going anywhere. But the times for me are few and far between and generally it involves the evening of December 31st.

I have a nice looking stereo Sansui amp LOL I then found out they ripped off the design from Yamaha on the outside. It is basically two huge segmented led level indicators on the face in an orange color on black. It's got heavy ass transformer in it.. but in the end sounds very anemic, nothing like a Yamaha natural sound.
