I was just thinking about being 16, in high school, in 1999 and spending about 45 minutes downloading this 4.5 minute song, and treasuring the experience of watching a single video of my favorite band play live. We've come a long way to CZcams in not so long a time.
Hahaha yep snap-it's also when I started to use heroin but I absolve Radiohead of all blame there 😂 it's amazing how far the bet has come though in such a short space of time-when this came out I was impressed you could play snake on a mobile lol
@@timdebels2082 yeah but I can understand other people singing along, getting caught up in the moment. Wouldnt be for me but I can see how other people might
It may be due to Thom's reported detachment during this period, but his flat affect & demeanor seem to add a chilling heft to this performance. It's brilliant.
naapooliitaanoo was it specifically made for the film though or was it just used before the album came out do you know? Lyrics certainly imply it was made for the film yet it wasn't on the soundtrack which makes me wonder. I do know it's not about fucking groupies though lol
I have a totally different perspective on this song even tho it may be completely false.. For me, The lyrics of this song are said by a young girl’s imaginary friend who gives her suggestions and ideals to keep fighting and not lose hope after years of physical or mental abuse from her father.. The “We hope that you choke” lines are said by the imaginary friend to the father..
Wake From your sleep The drying of Your tears Today We escape We escape Pack And get dressed Before your father hears us Before All hell Breaks loose Breathe Keep breathing Don't loose Your nerve Breathe Keep breathing I can't do this Alone Sing Us a song A song to keep Us warm There's Such a chill Such a chill You can laugh A spineless laugh We hope your Rules and wisdom choke you Now We are one In everlasting peace We hope that you choke That you choke We hope that you choke That you choke We hope That you choke That you choke
When the chills come to me in the simple sounds of his voice, when I tremble just trying to follow him in his stories, for each of his writings is a whole book, I wonder what he must feel when he raises his voice more High as the sky!
This guys handle dynamics with true mastery. The way they reduce intensity at 3:50 is the best proof. Specially Thom, whose voice really shines on this one. Fantastic song.
In live performances.... Jonny Greenwood slides a coin up and down the strings of his guitar, using a Roland Space Echo to create the eerie sounds heard throughout the song. :D:D...thats what he's holding to make the effect =)
Same. Glastonbury 97. Tears were literally streaming down my face and everyone around me were in awe, there's no other band on earth that can do wot radiohead can do
this video and song bring me back. I didnt have many radiohead songs I could listen to on my own. I remember I downloaded them from Kazaa. This song and video was one of them. I thought these guys were so cool.
Oh Kazaa! I forgot about that! I totally still have this video downloaded on my computer from back then even though these days it's unnecessary. It's weird how we used to have to search so hard for them!
Ogni volta che ascolto questa canzone, mi viene in mente la mattina che mia madre mi disse della morte di mio padre. In auto girava Ok Computer e la quarta traccia andava in random.
some years ago i went through a really bad period in my life. i used to sit in my bed, close the door and play this song over and over again. in the right state of mind i would get down to each single note and actually have goose pimples all over my body. this song is a delightful masterpiece
i dunno why but i really like how thom is singing and the rest of the band is just chillen. Like Ed is just having a drink and phil is just sitting there :)
It's a great live song. I've heard this song in the last part of the film "After live" . Witlh Liam Neeson. That was also the best part of the movie. It's a great song.

I'm 16 now, youtube is pretty awsome
Good ol days of Napster. I was 13 at the time and it blew my mind how any decent quality of music was being produced for free on my computer.
Hahaha yep snap-it's also when I started to use heroin but I absolve Radiohead of all blame there 😂 it's amazing how far the bet has come though in such a short space of time-when this came out I was impressed you could play snake on a mobile lol
I had an official VHS tape with 7 of their videos. It was as satisfying to watch the whole thing as a good movie.
Indeed
The audience is so freaken well behaved, no one screaming or shouting or even singing along.. wow. Thom has such control over his audience!
singing along at a concert is a bad thing?
@@Verdicess it doesn't suit Radiohead's songs imo
@@Verdicess not a bad thing at all but man I’d find it hard to sing to Radiohead stuff. Tom Yorke has ridiculously good range.

Don't ever let this version leave CZcams. So incredibly passionate.

Full of feelings, this song is simply heartbreaking and omg every time it gives me chills.
why? it's a song about having sex with groupies and rockin' n' rollin' all night long, typical Radiohead song.
Lol this song was maid for Romeo + Juliet movie, where did you get all that stuff you said?

The fuzz bass in this song is to die for
Wake
From your sleep
The drying of
Your tears
Today
We escape
We escape
Pack
And get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before
All hell
Breaks loose
Breathe
Keep breathing
Don't loose
Your nerve
Breathe
Keep breathing
I can't do this
Alone
Sing
Us a song
A song to keep
Us warm
There's
Such a chill
Such a chill
You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your
Rules and wisdom choke you
Now
We are one
In everlasting peace
We hope that you choke
That you choke
We hope that you choke
That you choke
We hope
That you choke
That you choke
This song makes me feel like If I was in another planet... Love this song, I love radiohead! And I love You Thom Yorke
This is one of the best performances in the history of music
This is one of the best versions of this song.
This is just as good, if not better than the studio version.

I CANT bet believe i saw this only today and its been posted 13years ago

"and now we are one in everlasting peace" - great lyric, beautiful song
sometimes Thom looks like an allien
Ge Bl he’s like a female Bjork but in a good way

there are no words to describe how beautiful and meaningful this song is!
