    If you tap into the trailer wire harness it will think there is a trailer connected, and have a message pop up on the screen, if you have the trailer tow package I believe. It will also disable the auto start-stop feature.

    @scottvermillion1685 Před 2 lety +2

    So, after a detailed explanation of how to connect it to your trailer harness wiring, it doesn’t work because it causes issues with the truck thinking there is a trailer attached. As a fix, you then take off the tail light and say, “look just hook it up in here (without telling us which wire on the light bar connects to each wire in your tail light).

    Posi- seal connectors would be the best bet, they are weatherproof all you have to do is strip the wire a 1/2" twist and connect! Heard bad things about the scotch ones.

    When you tap into that it still shows your towing, you actually have to tap into the turn signals

  • @mpjas2008

    So I looked at this and other videos that show how to wire this. At least you guys acknowledge there is an issue and revised your video (Thanks for that). You certainly do address the annoying trailer detected dash warning.
    BUT, I just rewired mine directly to the tail lights. Upon startup, I still get a trailer detected and the dash goes directly to the towing screen / default Trailer. So I checked the old splice connections that were removed to make sure there was no open or short. All seems good since I did tape them up nicely.
    I will drive it a while and see if the annoying trailer connected/disconnected/light out issues go away. If this does just that, then I can deal with the startup screen.

    • @rogerschiller6758
      @rogerschiller6758 Před 6 lety

      If your dash still goes to the trailer setting then the backup sensors, and the auto start stop will not work.

    • @czombos47
      @czombos47 Před 2 lety

      First and foremost, I was getting the warnings by just plugging the four flat plug from the light-bar (default setup) into the side of the 7flat tow package plug on the back of the back of the truck. So then, I rewired it directly to the towing plug as the video instructed in the first 10 minutes while laying in gravel sweating my ass off for 40 minutes.
      And then wouldn’t you know it yes they did modify the video! But at the very end of the video after I had already rewired everything per the video instructions. I had no reason to watch you put a tailgate on. So now I am supposed to rewire it to my tail light? Even though there’s no guarantee that the warnings for the trailer hook up and “rear signal fault” on my dash will even go away!? How about this. If that doesn’t not work can you please make another video (just for me “Mike”) of some more wires I can cut in half and then put back together on my truck. Can we do brakes instead?
      Even with the alerts I get everyday, I have a truck with a bunch of cut wires put back together again and you want me to do the same thing but instead to the taillight!?
      You guys should probably do longer trial and error phases with product prior to making instructional videos for owners to chop wires up like Edward ScissorNuts only to be left with annoying issues.
      Lastly and most importantly, when adding a modification to install or any change At all, don’t do it at the 10 minute and 45 second mark into an 11:00 minute at the 10 minute mark vireo and in this case I consider it pretty important your video, how about you do it at the very beginning and not wait until the very end or some people are just finishing. That was a bonehead move. Your videos sucks, and the Beavis and Butthead music needs to go.

Bare wire(s), such as using the "scotch locks" will lead to corrosion later on.
