Domenic Troiano will always be one of my all time heroes of Toronto music in the 60's and Roy Kenner and George Oliver are right up there with him, but no one had more soul than "Donnie" as his friends called him. I watch this and will always remember how he handled his craft with that "goofy" grin and his focus on the fret board. He was such a perfectionist and never really understood that all he had to do was just be Donnie because that was more than enough for everyone that just adored him.

I was there that night. Junos 1996, the Saturday night dinner event. What a thrill to see Dom with both George Olliver and Roy Kenner!

Donny was the greatest Guitar player born in Toronto that ever picked up a Fender and had a Tremendice following in Toronto,Montreal,LA.and the rest of Canada and the U.S.A. Coast to Coast . He was every bit as good as JIMI . I saw Hendrix 4 times , people will have to realize that he was a great virtuoso , That was as close to GOD as I will ever get.... May-be some day many Centuries from now He will be appreciated for his fine work ! Just before he died he was planning to meet up with Mile's Davis at his Electrical Ladyland Studio in NEW YORK . TOO Sad SO SAD VERY SAD !!

Toronto music scene was great back in the 60's and produced many great groups and singer with guys such as George Oliver, Roy Kenner etc.. and Mandala was one of major groups of the that whole era.

i think Domenic's best stuff is on his first solo album (discarded Bush 2d album) in 1972 or so. The essence of mature blue-eyed Canadian soul. Whitey, one of the best drummers of his generation, and Domenic, one of the best in the world... Perkash was asked to join Funkadelic. At one point my brother Hughie played organ and keyboards in Mandala and a bit of Bush in 68-73. Donnie'd march upstairs to wake him up on their way to gigs. Or sometimes their manager Randy Markowitz, banging on the door with his walking cane.

Kevin your mother was my typing and music teacher in 1968, through to 1971. One of my all time favourite teachers and talked about her family often and was proud of all. I remember the story she told to get her husband to listen to the Rock Opera Jesus Christ Superstore, that he was taking a bath and with the door open, and all watching that he could not get up and shut the door without all seeing him naked, so he sat in the tub and listened to the whole album.
Your mom had to fight with the powers of the school to convince them that a music class was a class worth teaching. I think of her now and then an stories of Sully on the road. It was my pleasure to have known her.

When were teens and rocked to George Oliver, Lighthouse and Grant Smith and the Power one of us had a Toronto album (not the girl group) with a great rendition of Heatwave. Any ideas?

Shawne Jackson sings a great version of "Heatwave" on the "Live at the Bluenote" album from '83. www.discogs.com/master/2535592-George-Olliver-Gangbuster-With-Special-Guests-Shawne-Jackson-Roy-Kenner-Jayson-King-Wayne-St-John-Li

I remember all those bands. Most played at our high school in Pickering. Grant Smith and the Power,I saw a few times at the Spruce Villa in Whitby when they had a line up of great bands. Monday nite through to Saturday. What times. Still remember Grant Smith's rendition of Me and Mrs Jones, and others
