- On Saturday, the world will commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, a reminder not to forget the lessons of history -- perhaps more crucial now than ever. Edith Eger was just 16 years old when she was sent to Auschwitz, but what she saw there remained a secret for many years. Now an internationally renowned psychologist, Edith has devoted her life to helping heal people’s traumas. Edith and her daughter Marianne Engle join the show to discuss Edith's bestselling book "The Choice," the power of forgiveness, and why telling her story set her free.

I’m reading her book now. It’s beautifully written, and heartbreaking. That moment when she danced for the doctor…that was after they killed her parents, shaved their heads, and practically starved them from the start. The Doc may have “asked nicely”, but the situation was frightening and horrible; Dr. Eger was used as entertainment. Just cruel. Dr. Eger is an amazing woman, and I highly recommend her book, “The Choice”.
For anyone now denying that this awful, inhumane time in history existed, give them this book. It is a must read.
I give Edith’s book “The Choice” as gifts to my friends and loved ones. It is one of the most moving memoirs I’ve ever read and one of the best books period. Life changing. Read it. This woman is a treasure to life and humanity itself. We ❤️ you Edith. Xo

Wonderful interview! Dr. Eger's book, The Choice, is beautifully written and so very worth reading.
We can never forget. Thank you for sharing this story. This is why teaching “HISTORY” is vitally important. Wiccan only prevent history repeating itself by knowing what the possibilities are of following themes of our past.

Yes. I first learned of these events and began to hear many stories from age 7, of people surrounding me who had survived while living in Channahon, Illinois. I hadn't known until a few years after that, about my Great Uncle on Texas, having survived one of the camps. He just didn't want any of us to know, and would go be off to himself while many of us kids were around for holidays, (he would get very emotional to see us and hide) but it helped us tremendously to know some of what he was going through. All of the shared knowledge of it from the first days I learned about it and began to recognize other people, some I already knew as an even younger child and new people, and acquaintances I would meet over the years has encompassed my whole life and self examination of ways I handle several situations, and choices I make in adrenaline filled moments, particularly in moments of self defense and assertion. Restraint can be extremely difficult. I still recognize what it is to be vulnerable all the time. That helps me with my own restraint, personally. I try to learn from the restraint of others better at it than myself. Those are the people who fascinate me most.
Love her & love her books! The Choice was a profound read.
Had lunch one day with Dr Eger and it was amazing.
One of those people that impact your life and you’re never the same.
